Today I had my son Dominick help me at the shop build some steps and I thought it would be a perfect time to teach you guys at home how to build some super easy steps that will or for all types of applications.

This video is so awesome in so many ways. First of all, those are some solid steps. I think I'll make them for my trailer. Secondly, your kid is ridiculously cute and is definitely the star of the show. And lastly, as a father of two toddlers myself, you've inspired me to be a better father. Normally, when I work on projects I don't allow my kids to be anywhere near me for fear that they'll grab a tool and hurt themselves or accidentally step on a nail. However, I saw noticed that you had an extremely tidy, well-organized workspace with only the essential tools you needed to use with you. And you've clearly taught your son not to touch that nail gun or chop saw. Also, whenever I film any tutorial video I never have my kids in it because it's way too distracting for me and it's too hard to watch them while giving instructions on a video. But you showed me that it's totally possible to film tutorial videos with toddlers and, in fact, it could be a lot of fun and you showed me how to let me kids hang out with me while I work on projects. Thanks for being a great dad and thanks for the quality video!

Best video ever. So darn cute and informative. My dad mostly asked me to go indoors for fear a girl would hurt herself but I stuck there watching like a hawk and wanting to get the tools of his hands and participate. He let me help sometimes. Today, I am a diy’er and even show my dad a thing or two. Daddy’s and curious kids dream right here on this video. Awesome helper without wasting time or overbearing. This kid will grow to be a master woodworker.

Get a cheap circular saw. You can get a base model skil of craftsman for less than $50. And it should last you years. Get a corded model. As far as the nail gun goes, if you’re just doing DIY, get a drill kit. On the cheaper end you can go with kobalt or Ryobi, but if you spend a little extra and get a base set Milwaukee or dewalt they will last you forever. I have a set of dewalt XR drills that I’ve had for a while. My dad still had his dewalt drills that he bought when I was probably 6. I’m 26 now. They still work. And although he’s bought new dewalts since his old ones never let him down. He also still has a corded Milwaukee circular saw from 2001 that still runs like a champ. Btw he owns a marina on a lake so he’s constantly using them. I used to buy cheap tools. But I’ve learned that if you spend a little bit more and get decent tools (not top of the line but not cheap) they will last you at least a decade.

The unsupported overhang of the top step looks awfully dangerous. It seems like it would be easy for that board or the nails to fail.
I think I would adjust the bases to allow the top tread boards to be as well supported as the first two steps.
Otherwise great idea for many of us, thanks.
