- Tributes are being paid to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday in Balmoral. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
In the Houses of Parliament, a minute’s silence was held before MPs and peers began paying their own tributes, led by Prime Minister Liz Truss.
Books of condolence have been opened in churches, theatres and local council offices across the country and events have been cancelled.
At noon, bells rang out at Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral and in Windsor in tribute to the Queen.
King Charles is travelling to London and has already announced a period of royal mourning for the Queen.

Im inexplicably sad since the first moment I knew about her death, I'm not even british. But I had so much respect for the queen's devotion to her people. A life full of personal sacrifices and an oath fulfilled until the very end. It's a painful reminder that nothing last forever and change It's inevitable.
I recall fond memories of my Pet Iguana. She would flicker her tongue and whip her tail when dinner was about to be served. It took its last breath this year, while basking under the warm and soothing UV lamp😢 but Don't cry for me, She lived longer than most lizards🦎

No it doesn't we all have to go. But while we live we can admire such a lady and try to follow her example.
She wasn’t just any Queen. She was _“The_ Queen”. You said “The Queen” and everyone instantly knew you meant Elizabeth. We all knew it was going to happen eventually, but I suppose she seemed so strong and so full of vigour only a few days ago, that it still comes as a shock. She vowed to dedicate her life to the British people aged just 21, a birthday I have celebrated only a little over a week ago. Until two days before her death, she remained dutiful. For 70 long, eventful years she remained a strong and unchanging icon; as many have said, a mother and grandmother to the British people.
As an Irish woman, I will always have a soft spot for Her Majesty. She made a historic visit to Ireland in 2011, bowing her head in memory of the losses of Irish lives in our Gardens of Remembrance. She visited Croke Park, acknowledging the horrors committed by British governments passed. She also made a valued effort with our complex language (Gaeilge). She made her position on the value of Irish culture quite clear, despite having no executive power and using few words. Her actions said it all. Her kindness, responsibility and resilience are traits I will always remember.

That is a great point. A woman so famous that she was known all over the world by her title. Even in places where that title was essentially meaningless. I've been looking through past articles and video's of the British Queen "Elizabeth II" since her passing on the 8th of Sept-22, it reminded me that she's a remarkable woman and the people of Britain will miss her deeply I’m sure. During her 4 day visit (3 in Dublin & 1 in Cork) to Ireland in 2011 she gained respect from most of the country for the way she conducted herself, i certainly seen her in a different light. Elizabeth II had a way to bring nations together through her foreign visits, something most leaders can't do these days. On the last day of her visit she got out of the car and walk the streets of cork city shaking hands with people against all protocol, she was in charge of her own visit and knew what was best...It was a simple gesture but stood out for me, loved that ... May she rest in peace, Irish Viewer.!

Shame when Prince Phillip died it was tragic to see this great lady quickly fade. I was hoping that at least she would stay around to take part in the Jubilee celebrations. She outdid herself by not only being there but even managing to play a part in a special video of herself and Paddington bear. Not only that but she even managed in her last days to welcome in the new auspiciously timed female prime minister. Signed and sealed she has completed her task and left behind the memory of a Great Queen who was not only an inspiration as a great royal leader but an excellent example to follow. Thank you Ma'am. You are now entitled to a well earned rest.

I think many in the world are starting to see why we loved her so much. Because of the impact she had on us. The goermnemt may govern, but she provided a moral and spiritual strength we have just lost. All her energy was spent bringing comfort and soul-soothing words. She devoted herself to bringing people together and building bridges. She was above politics, she was our grandmother.

I loved the Queen & was fortunate to actually have a few minutes one to one chat with her 20 years ago, & as a former soldier I respected her for all the good she has done throughout her long & amazing reign.
However....
Charles should have stepped aside to allow William to take the throne, because I believe if he were King, the Monarchy would have a chance of survival, because he would take it in the right direction!
Unfortunately, there are many of us, including myself, who CANNOT forgive or forget the ILLICIT affair between Charles & Camilla during his marriage to Diana. Now that he is King, it is a DAILY reminder of what he did.....

Im afraid the UK and possibly the world has lost one of its greatest role models. To be so devoted to your job for so long is a great achievement. It is no small task to put your personal opinions on matters to yourself all the time and just be there for everybody from every possible walk of life. Even till the very end at 96 and obviously unwell, having to deal with losing her husband, still performing her duty and giving an audience to the new PM. One of history's great and she will be missed as such.
