kratos had a more troubled, tortured look in his cutscenes from this game. in god of war 2 and 3, they made him look more and more angry and obsessed, and in the new games, he looks wise, tired and worried.
This is false, God of War 2 Kratos ends up showing just as much emotion if not more than his GOW1 counterpart... He simply had a set conviction of killing the gods at the very end.

He started having his nightmares after this event. Thing is, his love for his family is the only thing that made h human. If the gods had completely taken away that bond, they would have unleashed a terror far beyond anyone's imagination. Kratos himself didn't really want to lose the memory of his family either. He had no idea what he wanted. Also, after becoming God of War, he could have easily returned to his family in Elysium. Instead, he started waging wars in the name of the gods, even though he himself wasn't corrupted by Pandora's Box. He truly is the son of Zeus after all. He did everything wrong and blamed everyone but himself.
After playing the new game Ragnarok , it is so amazing to see how much Kratos's character has changed! It is so rare for a video game character to experience even a little character growth, yet, the Kratoes in the most current games is so far removed from this Young, brash, arrogant, angry, version of Kratos that someone new to the God of War franchise would think these are two completely separate people.

@@alexthievery7834 Kratos was considered extremely strong for a Demi god though, same as Herc, and Kratos got the strongest powerup in the series, and already had multiple powers from other Gods, it's not that absurd compared to a lot of other ways Gods usually get beaten. Take Percy beating Ares as a kid for example, even though Ares couldn't use his full power and was mostly messing around, failing to kill a kid who you are thousands of years older than and that just started training is extremely silly. There are other instances of things like this happening in the series and others of course, but I wanted to use Greek Gods as an example again. Also, why would they have superior intellect by default? Athena probably would, but we are shown that Kratos is quite smart and Athena herself even says as such in the novels. Kratos being really strong and being able to beat very powerful beings isn't inherently plot armor, well technically everything is plot armor, since every character in fiction has it, but a character beating an opponent that is more powerful than themself isn't egregious plot armor automatically.
surprised this game still holds up. recently replayed my ps2 library i found in my closet (that being god of war 1 and 2, shadow of the colossus, ratchet and clack and sly cooper) and i gotta be honest this one is easily the best. i think it shares the spot with shadow of the colossus as the best ps2 game of all time.
Man I played this on Ps2. To this day...one of the most iconic character ever. New generation of kids should play GOw1 to GOW3 and see why we all love kratos.

Aries might be underrated in terms of power. Only other god able to steal Kratos powers was Zeus. You can see him using Hades army power in the final phase. His plot to overthrow Zeus was probably viable. No wonder the gods sent a lackey to do the deed. It would take Zeus to take Aries on.

I've known God of War since I was a kid, but only managed to play and finish it recently. But I still feel the nostalgia as if I was actually playing it years ago. PS2 graphics and games are timeless
What's really messed up is that both Kratos and Ares are brothers. Orkos, the son of Ares from GoW: Ascension is technically the nephew of Kratos.
Kratos and Orkos could be the same age though. Kratos had deimos Kidnapped by Ares and Athena when he was Little.
Funnily enough, almost every supernatural person that Kratos kills in the Classic/Greek Mythology Era of the games is related to him. Yes, even Castor and Pollux.

What is amazing is that ares pulled off a feat like mundus with dante, like damn, a universe itself just to mess with kratos and cherry on top is his family, dying again to the hands of his multiple selves and even in his giant form, he is still weak against ares.

@@alexthievery7834 There are a lot of characters that can resist Genjutsu though, hell Kratos resisted shit like that in Chains of Olympus which was before this, but what Ares did wasn't even Genjutsu, it was real we see him teleport Kratos away in GoW 2 when we fight one of the Fates. Also, why would you be sad Ares died? He was worse than Kratos at this point, he did all this evil shit before Kratos even opened Pandora's box, he was just a piece of shit.
@@edwardarroyo884 I’m not sad he died, him dying just doesn’t make sense, every God in the pantheon was broken in strength, and kratos is just a demi god, he should not have had a sliver of a chance in killing any of them, not to mention they should have had superior intellect as well, example ares using “genjutsu”
@@alexthievery7834 Kratos was considered extremely strong for a Demi god though, same as Herc, and Kratos got the strongest powerup in the series, and already had multiple powers from other Gods, it's not that absurd compared to a lot of other ways Gods usually get beaten. Take Percy beating Ares as a kid for example, even though Ares couldn't use his full power and was mostly messing around, failing to kill a kid who you are thousands of years older than and that just started training is extremely silly. There are other instances of things like this happening in the series and others of course, but I wanted to use Greek Gods as an example again.
Also, why would they have superior intellect by default? Athena probably would, but we are shown that Kratos is quite smart and Athena herself even says as such in the novels. Kratos being really strong and being able to beat very powerful beings isn't inherently plot armor, well technically everything is plot armor, since every character in fiction has it, but a character beating an opponent that is more powerful than themself isn't egregious plot armor automatically.

surprised this game still holds up. recently replayed my ps2 library i found in my closet (that being god of war 1 and 2, shadow of the colossus, ratchet and clack and sly cooper) and i gotta be honest this one is easily the best. i think it shares the spot with shadow of the colossus as the best ps2 game of all time.

Aries might be underrated in terms of power. Only other god able to steal Kratos powers was Zeus. You can see him using Hades army power in the final phase.
His plot to overthrow Zeus was probably viable. No wonder the gods sent a lackey to do the deed. It would take Zeus to take Aries on.

It seems like they never forgave him for his past cause they had always used it against him throughout the trilogy
