This is spectacular. I love how the waves of spell card synchronizes the music and Yuyuko's final spell card "Resurrection Butterfly -Reflowering" is interpreted. It is just amazing and Utterly beautiful. It totally gave me chills and the feeling of sad for the story of Yuyuko at the same time. There is no fight back against this card, all you need do is to survive the impossible and absolute power until Yuyuko blast the last bit of Saigyou Ayakashi's energy off. Not just this one, every spell card here is carefully planned and considered to reflect my favorite boss fight in Perfect Cherry Blossom. Thank you very much, this was a dream and now it comes true for me.

Wow. This is the only Touhou animation that actually captures what danmaku battles really are. Plus I love how it made Reimu look like the bad guy at the end. Poor Yuyuko and Youmu
To be fair, the second part of the Yuyuko boss fight (after she revives) has her invincible in the game as well. You just need to dodge the attack until the timer runs out.
out of all minusT animations, this one is my favorite, and although the newer ones look much more nice, I will always come back to this one in particular. In my ever so humble opinion, this video is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and even when I feel down, this video always brings my emotions up and I always end up feeling beyond elated.

This was just beautiful. Simply wonderful. The calm music, fitting atmosphere, LOVELY visuals, bright colors, smooth patterns, elegant grace from the characters, and stunning animations..... this was just music to my ears and a festival to my eyes. I loved it so much. This was art. I haven't been moved like this ever since the NiGHTs games. Just goes to show how Touhou can inspire people to do so much. One person made this. Just one. Like ZUN with the main games. It also shows how much one person can achieve and do. Just this one.... I'm so moved. I'm so happy to be a Touhou fan. This is so great that it's no surprise Subterranean Stars is a sequel to it. Seriously, you went to the extra mile, adding fighting game cards and Reimu even got to use her IN boss attacks. Though the best part was how Resurrection Butterfly was handled, goosebumps-inducing.
oh my god, that was absolutely beautiful. that was a showcase of exactly WHY i fell in love with these games. The psychedelic beauty of the Danmaku, and the gorgeous accompaniment music.
This is absolutely stunning, as a beginning 3D student, i can see just how much time and effort [as well as rendering time, yeesh all those particle effects] has been put into this. I love how cinematic it is and how true to the games it is too [such as keeping signature effects and moves etc] yet has your own creative influence in the flow of the battle. I love the execuction and the lack of SFX does it more justice than if it were to have, as the actions and music are what keep the true pace. The timing to the music is just perfect and well executed, really great job!
Oooh, Youmu's speelcard at 2:37 is soooo beautiful XO, really well made! Or forget it, all the attacks are beautiful ^^. And I really like how the music is synced with the video sometimes, and the movements are perfect =3. Someone should make a Touhou movie like this =D

Actually it looks a lot better. The shades on characters are better, the environments look overall better and the character animations don't look like they are badly positioned motion captures.
Arexion5293 Heck, let's not even mention the smooth flying movements, good use of doujin music, and beautiful danmaku patterns (looks amazing on a big screen). It's easily one of the best RUclips videos (in terms of visual spectacle) that I have watched. This deserves way more views!
quehay45 Agreed. I actually didn't mention the danmaku patterns mainly because RWBY has those incredibly well action scenes going for it. It's Montyoum after all, so they look quite spectacular, and thus comparing the danmaku patterns to such well animated action scenes is quite difficult. It's just such a shame that RWBY overall looks like it was made with Mikumikudance without any sort of shaders.
Arexion5293 Don't forget that they have to animate, voice, and edit each episode weekly with a team of people who work on a dozen other things at Rooster Teeth at the same time. Not to mention this is their first time trying to pull something like this. MinusT's first Touhou 3D didn't look as good as this, but the guy has a muuuuuch longer (nonexistant) deadline in which he can polish it as much as he wants. Here's to hoping the second season of RWBY looks much better than the first
Izula Yeah, MinusT lacks a deadline, but he also lacks a team. Sure, Montyoum's team has plenty of other things to work on, but still, it looks like a freaking MMD video, with somewhat badly done motions and motion captures, excluding the action scenes.

Amazing work, minusT. Your growth in talent as an animator is stunning to see. ZUN himself would be proud. :) The single criticism/suggestion I might have is that: When the camera is facing towards Reimu and we see bullets or butterflies trailing away past where they would be rendered, their sudden disappearance can be distracting, even amid all the rest of the danmaku. I don't know if this is feasible, but maybe setting a fade-out effect on bullet objects as they approach the edge of their rendering period could alleviate that. I especially liked the injections of personality you gave to the combatants between attacks. Can't wait to see what you do with Yukari.

Hello. 2023, and still watching this. It seems no one noticed a small detail, yet it's original to the game. At 11:11, where Saigyou Ayakashi started withering and releasing the Spring energy, at 11:20 Reimu noticed this and actually use Cherry Border to protect herself from incoming hit (since Reimu on last 'live' and it'll be gameover if she got hit once more). This video is truly amazing!

I have seen so many so called "3D animations" of Touhou and I must say that most of them were crappy made and bad looking. But you made a really really REALLY high quality animation here. I really like the details like all the attack patterns resemble the ones of the actual games or like clothes and hair of the characters move in a way that fits their moves. The models themselves look pretty good, too. All in all a beautiful thing you created. Thumbs up, cuz I hope you will make more of these in the future!

Reimu wasn't even a factor in the last phase of the battle.
To be fair, the second part of the Yuyuko boss fight (after she revives) has her invincible in the game as well. You just need to dodge the attack until the timer runs out.
She's one of the few Last Bosses with a Survival card, note that it's the tree you're fighting in the second half.
Reimu's a bully. She always have to have things her way. No other way out there.

This was just beautiful. Simply wonderful. The calm music, fitting atmosphere, LOVELY visuals, bright colors, smooth patterns, elegant grace from the characters, and stunning animations..... this was just music to my ears and a festival to my eyes. I loved it so much. This was art. I haven't been moved like this ever since the NiGHTs games.
Just goes to show how Touhou can inspire people to do so much. One person made this. Just one. Like ZUN with the main games. It also shows how much one person can achieve and do. Just this one.... The fact that the audio purposely messed up when things started to go wrong for Yuyuko is amazing.
This is so great that it's no surprise Subterranean Stars is a sequel to it. Seriously, you went to the extra mile, adding fighting game cards and Reimu even got to use her IN boss attacks. Though the best part was how Resurrection Butterfly was handled, goosebumps-inducing.

Going back to this animation 6 years later and what I can only say is that this whole battle is really 1:1 with the actual stage.

oh my god, that was absolutely beautiful. that was a showcase of exactly WHY i fell in love with these games. The psychedelic beauty of the Danmaku, and the gorgeous accompaniment music.
This is absolutely stunning, as a beginning 3D student, i can see just how much time and effort [as well as rendering time, yeesh all those particle effects] has been put into this. I love how cinematic it is and how true to the games it is too [such as keeping signature effects and moves etc] yet has your own creative influence in the flow of the battle. I love the execuction and the lack of SFX does it more justice than if it were to have, as the actions and music are what keep the true pace. The timing to the music is just perfect and well executed, really great job!
読唇術みたいに言葉を当てはめて楽しむのもあるだろうし、字幕をつけて声を想像して楽しむのも 声優さんつけてイメージを更に増すのも其々の面白さがあると私は思っています。

Actually it looks a lot better. The shades on characters are better, the environments look overall better and the character animations don't look like they are badly positioned motion captures.
Arexion5293 Heck, let's not even mention the smooth flying movements, good use of doujin music, and beautiful danmaku patterns (looks amazing on a big screen). It's easily one of the best RUclips videos (in terms of visual spectacle) that I have watched. This deserves way more views!

Agreed. I actually didn't mention the danmaku patterns mainly because RWBY has those incredibly well action scenes going for it. It's Montyoum after all, so they look quite spectacular, and thus comparing the danmaku patterns to such well animated action scenes is quite difficult. It's just such a shame that RWBY overall looks like it was made with Mikumikudance without any sort of shaders.

Don't forget that they have to animate, voice, and edit each episode weekly with a team of people who work on a dozen other things at Rooster Teeth at the same time. Not to mention this is their first time trying to pull something like this. MinusT's first Touhou 3D didn't look as good as this, but the guy has a muuuuuch longer (nonexistant) deadline in which he can polish it as much as he wants.
Here's to hoping the second season of RWBY looks much better than the first

Yeah, MinusT lacks a deadline, but he also lacks a team. Sure, Montyoum's team has plenty of other things to work on, but still, it looks like a freaking MMD video, with somewhat badly done motions and motion captures, excluding the action scenes.

The single criticism/suggestion I might have is that: When the camera is facing towards Reimu and we see bullets or butterflies trailing away past where they would be rendered, their sudden disappearance can be distracting, even amid all the rest of the danmaku. I don't know if this is feasible, but maybe setting a fade-out effect on bullet objects as they approach the edge of their rendering period could alleviate that.
I especially liked the injections of personality you gave to the combatants between attacks. Can't wait to see what you do with Yukari.

As I grew, my powers grew also... and as they grew, they began to outgrow me... The first sign was the sudden deaths of a couple of elderly but still spry people living in my village... soon after that a couple of sickly people followed... and then the piles of dead mice and rats started popping up... One night, the villagers came to me. They were angry and sad. They accused me of being the one behind all of these deaths... and, at first, I tried to deny my involvement in it... I tried to explain it away, you know... 'They were old, it was their time.' 'Illnesses claim many lives.' 'Maybe the death of the vermin is a blessing, an act of god?' Most of all, I guess I told those lies to myself. I may have even imagined myself the victim of a mob who unjustly attacked that which frightened them... but they were right... and I refused to accept it, even when the cicadas wouldn't play that spring, even as the birds would not sing in the forest that summer and... all the stillbirths... the world around me was dying and yet... I refused to believe that I was the one responsible for it all...
Everyone else knew, though... the shrine maiden from up the hill... the monks from the temple... even the butterflies knew... and when the villagers followed the butterflies to my house, with their sickles and torches and spears, I panicked... I didn't want to die... not yet... I didn't want to die yet... ... ...but I didn't want them to die, either... I didn't mean for it to happen... and if I could change the events of that day, I would gladly let them take my life... my life in exchange for theirs... yes, I would gladly make that trade today...
After that event, I started isolating myself, I cut myself off from the rest of the village... and they tried to cut me off, too... I only had one visitor at that time, you know... a strange and beautiful woman who sometimes came to me just as the sun setted and the world was bathed in twilight... She brought me good food and drinks. She talked with me. She didn't fear me... Even when I warned her about how dangerous it was for her to come visit me, she just laughed and said that the boundary of life and death didn't mean anything to her... We spent a lot of time together, she and I. Sometimes she'd even spend the night at my house... but she was always gone again before the light of dawn rose above the hills... then, one day, I noticed that she didn't look so well... and I knew that it was my power-- no, that it was _me,_ that _I_ was slowly killing her, too... It wasn't all just me, though... It was you, too... Though saying that is just passing the blame, isn't it?
The people that died because of me were not buried at our cemetery. Instead, they were all buried under the roots of a beautiful cherry blossom tree a bit outside of the village... at first it had just been the villagers respecting my father's wish of being buried under its boughs, but it quickly became a 'tradition' of sorts... Maybe the villagers were scared of burying my victims anywhere else in case they were cursed or something... to be fair, maybe they were, because that's where you entered the picture... My family, my friends, my neighbours, all of those bodies made a rich soil for you to grow big, strong and beautiful upon. And as you feasted upon the bodies of my victims, you also somehow took into yourself my power -- the power that had claimed their lives... as you grew, my powers grew within you, and you started thirsting for more... You called upon the souls of the living, made them come to you, just like how the butterflies had come to me. You compelled them to lie down by your roots and surrender themselves to their early graves... and here you are now, feeding off of your own victims, and you're growing ever bigger, ever stronger, ever more beautiful... ever more powerful... ever more _evil..._
I suppose it's a bit funny in a way, isn't it? That the murderous tree that I, in a sense, gave birth to should be the one to hear my life story... and my last words... But there is a reason why I'm telling you all of this: You see, much like my powers, you are my responsibility. And much like how I failed to take proper responsibility for my powers, I have failed to uphold my responsibility in regards to you... but I have finally decided to make amends... I told you my story because I want you to know that though I'm responsible for many lives coming to an early end, I've never even once intentionally killed anyone... But I am going to _murder_ you. And I do not intend to make it out of this fight alive."

Hello. 2023, and still watching this.
It seems no one noticed a small detail, yet it's original to the game. At 11:11, where Saigyou Ayakashi started withering and releasing the Spring energy, at 11:20 Reimu noticed this and actually use Cherry Border to protect herself from incoming hit (since Reimu on last 'live' and it'll be gameover if she got hit once more).

I have seen so many so called "3D animations" of Touhou and I must say that most of them were crappy made and bad looking.
But you made a really really REALLY high quality animation here.
I really like the details like all the attack patterns resemble the ones of the actual games or like clothes and hair of the characters move in a way that fits their moves. The models themselves look pretty good, too.
All in all a beautiful thing you created.
