I’m listening to The Water Dancer. I already know I want to get the book, to hold it and to read for myself Ta-Nehisi Coates words. I’m new to Mr Coates work, thank you for this interview with him.
White allergies: leave the violence out of slavery when telling the story. If we don't tell the story correct, this generation would think it was ok and that the repercussions have subsided.
He need to start having these forums where Everyone has read the book! I hate it when you have to tip toe around the topic! Don’t come or be ready for the spoiler! Period!
I promised myself never to watch another slave movie (til they told the truth). This book as a Spike Lee joint I will. I also read it to fast but it's hard not to. the flow is fervent and obvious.
@@banteamlakmokonnen1129 I was offended by the choice of attire chosen. This event wasn't about sexuality, they weren't in a night club or a lounge therefore a woman showing bare leg up the thigh is inappropriate to the guest and the audiance, me included. So I ask again, what was the intent? Did she not realize her dress fell open? I wasn't looking for it and noticed. And I'm sure the married man sitting across from her noticed as well. We really have to do better. I may be a prude but I just believe our people should not buy into "sex sells".
@Eber Yahuan No. I am a black women feeling disgusted by the constant oversexualization of women in public places and spaces. I don't appreciate women or men using their bodies or lack of appropriate apparel to communicate especially in western media. In America our men and women are viewed negatively and this moderator is feeding into this narrative. You would be the fool if you digest western media without question. In fact her inappropriateness on that stage is a contridiction of the message from the book. We need to free ourselves from the traps in western society which includes oversexualizing our women.

This message is so profound. Both of these people so bright, it's a shame that anyone is considering what kind of clothes they are wearing. This man is brilliant, and his work is brilliant!!

I'm so, so happy to have discovered this writer!!! I must share him with my daughter. (She probably knows about him. It's me who must catch-up)
I am glad that Ta-Nehisi left the violence out even though it is a very real aspect of slavery and racism. I cant wait to read the book
Indeed there *is* violence. The forced separation of a child from their mother is the worst kind of violence for anyone to perpetrate.
