- Well we came across a HUGE issue with our engine case, going to require a complete teardown!! It will end up being a blessing in the end but I could have definitely been happy with just a simple build.
Thanks for watching from the Davidson Moto Family!
Ride Safe, and Live MOTO
You deserve more recognition. High quality video and top tier content
Oh my goodness!! Wow thank you! That makes my day, I hope I can continue to live up to expectations!
I like how you try to fix everything without spending too much money. Kinda reminds of wheeler dealers😅 I love these longer video’s, and i’ve subscribed to your channel! Keep it up, cheers from the Netherlands!
Thanks dude. Excellent work. I prefer long ass videos with massive massive detail about every little thing and every little part. Every time you say something I learn something good I need to know. I even don’t like it when people speed through the videos. I’m glad you worked on this and are making these videos so I can learn how to take care of my bike.
I have a fully restored 08 cr450 as well
Spent thousands on it
More than a new model
Love the 08
Greatest 450 ever made
Is there any way you can send me some photos!? Would love to see it! Here is my email nwmotogarage@gmail.com
@@nwmotogarage will do
Have to be tomorrow tho we out for New Year’s Eve
It’s 8:40pm in New Zealand
Seal the ends of the front pipe and use your gas torch on the dent .As the heat builds, the dent will pop out ! Looking at how abused that bike has been , I wouldn’t use any of the bearings , especially the wheel bearings, since there was no axle block one side and the spokes and sprocket was loose. Buy new ones and have piece of mind for your own safety.I like the longer videos too. Enjoying the series build good luck 🏁👏🏼
Thanks for answering!! So glad you are liking the videos! I am already so over budget i with the Mrs breathing down my neck and Christmas and all but you may be right, might just need to get some. I will say, I can assure you, there was definite no one riding this thing without those blocks, it’s was all lose and someone just slapped it in to sell it. I have also had the chance of Inspecting several wheel bearings old and new and these feel pretty nice. I will definitely heed the warning though!
Definately continue with the longer-style videos!👍 Looking forward to the next one already!
Thanks so much! And I sure will, this next video kinda got a bit delayed because of what I found but I will strive to keep it just as entertaining!
Awesome, I like the longer format videos, can’t wait for the next!!
That’s huge!! Thanks for the feedback!! Anything specific you would like to see?
Stoked for part 4! Rebuilding both my 04’s (CRF250r & CRF450r)
Very excited to put it out!! I’m really glad you liked it! Oh wow!! What a great winter project!!
Dude this videos amazing brings me back to when I was doing my 2015 Honda crf 250r restoration! Keep it up
Wow thank you! That means the world to me! Is that 250 the one you ride on your channel?
No it’s not sadly I ended up getting rid of it after I broke my foot on it, would’ve hated to watch it sit up. Also had a cr 125 at the time that I sold as well. So when I came across the 125 that’s now on my channel on marketplace, I knew I had to go pick it up !
Subscribed. I don't know why this just now showed up in my feed. Great content, keep 'em coming.
That’s great! Thanks for clicking and subscribing! New channel, so zero exposure yet. I honestly owe it to RUclips for helping promote the video
As an ME, I wanted to point out that most engine cases are cast together from the manufacturer as a single unit. If your looking for longevity of the engine, it would be best to replace both case halves with a matching set, since two case halves from a different casting cannot be guaranteed to match/align properly. Otherwise great vid! Love the content and looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
Thanks for the insight! And I am so glad you are enjoying it! For the future, how would I get ahold of a matching set?
@@nwmotogarageyeah of course! eBay can usually be a good place to start :)
@@Deng1neer oh you are talking about used cases, gotcha. I wanted to go OEM if I was going to replace them. Tried to do eBay one time and it just replaced the problem I had with another one. My parts rep confirmed though that even if you wanted to, there are no matching cases to buy, Honda just doesn’t do it like that for the spare parts
Love these videos. Keep them coming they help me with my bikes
wish you would post more on here man! Love the content ! Immaculant work my man
HEY MAN! You should definitely collaborate with The Bearded Mechanic! Can get more eyes on your RUclips from people interested in this stuff. Recently found your content and I really dig how you do things, very clean and organized.
Wow. I have found something new to watch. Great videos.
Came into this not with high hopes. But that’s damn good quality! Excited to see where this bike is headed! And where this channel is headed
The honesty though!! Next video is about to drop, you should definitely keep those expectations low, not a whole lot of excitement coming up, but perhaps part 5 will be back up to the top 😂
@@nwmotogarage well I figured it would be like low quality film. But it is great clear on all the steps and clear video quality so you know what’s going on! I’m watching the next one for sure
Good work!! Waiting for the next.
Thank you so much! What would you like to see in the next video?
@@nwmotogarage everything!!!!! Keep working.
Good job you are inspecting everything. 👍
Thanks!! I am trying to do the bike justice. There is something about being able to trust the bike underneath of you
Awesome content man!! I can't wait to see how it comes together in the end, if you ever need some vapor blasting done I will hook you up!! Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you!! Where are you located? I might just do that!
@NW Moto Garage western New York I did Cameron niemella's rm250 parts a while back too if you wanted to see the quality of my vapor blasting
@NW Moto Garage I keep commenting with my phone number or my Instagram but it keeps getting deleted.. 🤷♂️
How do you only have 421 subs your content is great
Get outa here with that!! Shucks guy thank you!! What a confidence boost when it’s only my 3rd video! I look forward to posting the next one
@@nwmotogarage your content is very good quality and you explain what your are doing and show everything, your gonna blow up on this side of RUclips real fast and I’ll be here looking forward to every video!
@@gavinfitzpatrick6085 best thing to hear as a creator… my family and I thank you for the support.
Nice....just a tip, spokes will rust because you removed all the zinkplating .
2008 is considered one of the best MX bike
That’s a great tip! I thought the same thing so I tested the process on the front spokes first to see if it went down to bare metal, but the scotch bright wheel is so soft it just cleaned them up. Took me holding the spoke in the same spot for quite a while to get them down to bare metal. And yes it is!! Cannot wait to ride it!!
@@nwmotogarage 👍
thought of the same idea on my 2008 450r such a mean carby bike and would suit a 2021 plastic kit with thr decal kit. I have to fully rebuild my engine as the top end is fully destroyed. Thankfully the bottom end is somehow good but will be replacing the crank and all bearings/seals anyway. I'm planning of sending my shocks off to showa and have them redone
I will follow this build. I would suggest give us detailed info when building. Special theses wheels. I need to learn how to build them. 👍
Wow, that is a great request!! I will honor that and give a detailed account for building them! Thank you!
Diggin the spokes polishing
Thank you!!! Very excited to see these all laced back up and on the bike. You have to be so delicate with them or else you will burn through the coating on them. So worth it though
subscribed, can’t wait to see how the replica turns out
The graphics are amazing… I can hardly wait myself.
I see a lot of people always talking about when you have a broken case just replace it as a set I’ve done it 2 times on 2 stroke and 4 stroke (it worked both times) the case halves were not the same and no issues I think it’s just a lot of people talking with no experience but me my self I’m not even a mechanic lol but still !!
Yeah it’s pretty fortunate these are not mated! Look up some years of the Kawasaki 4 strokes on an OEM website like RockyMTN. If you notice you can’t select each case individually, it’s not even possible! It’s like the part numbers don’t exist for the left and right, it’s just one single part number and you are getting both :/ Thanks for commenting!!
i had a 06 really good bike but i went with the best 02 cr af cr500 91cr500 steel frame 86 trx250r
Are you talking about a hybrid?
@@nwmotogarage yea 02 cr250 roller i mean iv seen better like a ktm chassis swap but theres more to it i have a mill need a lathe but i kept it honda
@@charlesphilips2920 that’s so cool! I would love to see it when it’s all done!

Im new to the videos loving the content so far✌️
Nice video man!
Wow thanks!! That’s huge! I really appreciate the feedback
Finally 🔥👌
I am so glad you like the series!!
Cool video. Id love to do this type of work to my 07 YZ450F
been contemplating just selling it and buying a 2023 though !
Thank you!! Hey if you are in the NW I would be happy to get together with you! Yeah it’s tough to make the decision between fix up and keep, or sell for something new.
I love the yamas from 06-09 they are tough as dynamite if you are one to keep up maintenance. Dont let any of em breath dirt or pump grinding compound through its veins. The yama 450 is the only thing i own that i can literally be as mean as i want to it and its ready for more.
@@nwmotogarage im in Lakewood
@@dannyipwn1203 that’s awesome! We are down in Jefferson, if you need any work done, we are a full time mechanic shop. Let me know!!
@@nwmotogarage i do actually need some carb work done, the previous owner rejetted the carb to smaller jets to make it more of a "trail bike" and the only thing that did was make it run lean, and lean pop constantly.
im not really a carb guy myself so ive been putting it off, but i need to rejet my carb and get it all dialed in.
Love the long videos
I love this channel 🤙🏼
Great content mate!
Thank you! Part 4 is out now too if you are interested! Thanks for the subscribe!
@@nwmotogarage 👊🍻
Use air hammer on stubborn axles just a tip.
Great tip!! I have definitely done that before but I only use it on swingarm pivot bolts because it damages them beyond use. Usually you can get an OEM pivot bolt for about $25. For the axels I go with a slide hammer and patience, tends to yield less damage. Thanks for the comment!!
@@nwmotogarage ive had ahold of some that try to drive bearings out of the wheel when removing axle with slide hammer/hammer. Put a smaller bolt inside of axle so no to damage threads air hammer has saved the day more times than i can count.
@@loganpenland6568 I didn’t know the bolt works, I was always afraid of mushrooming out the threads!! Thanks so much!
I cant believe how good people are at trashing bikes.
Well said my friend!!
I've bought 3 brand new bikes. 9 used bikes all the used ones have been trash. New were GS500E XR250R F800GS. The used were ts50x mt5 cb125rs kmx200 gpz500 xl250r xr250r import xr125l sx50
I heard someone the other day say their dirtbike isn’t a “ garage princess “ I figure he just means his bike is a pos 😂
@@mrungrateful2086 My entire basement is a showroom and I beat on all those bikes but they all look immaculate and I rebuild them every winter. Lol just different breeds of people.
@@christophervillarreal8565 shiet I only got the one bike to keep clean 😂
Anytime I see a front brake line routed like that, I know whoever was working on it didn't have a clue.
Whaaat?? You mean that’s not factory??? 😂
Im just curious how you cleaned that header up nicely.
I used the buffing wheels from Pryme MX
Are you zinc plating the spokes?
No, the wheel I used is so fine it’s almost a buffing wheel. It was just enough to get the gunk off and polish the zinc. Great question!
@@nwmotogarage Thanks! I bought a Caswell Zinc plating kit. I have been real happy with the results. I restored a 1995 Honda CR250 and a 1970 Honda CT70. Everything has been zinc plated. I have them on my page. I have enjoyed your videos.
@@Mr10usdad I will check them out!
Awesome
You are too kind!! Thank you!
Whats the buffer you used to clean the spokes and rims?
It’s a thick scotch bright wheel from Prymemx.com This one in particular is the fine grit pad
Recently picked up an old 450R and mine also has a broken side case (not as bad as yours) and my sprocket was also loose haha smh
Dude no way!! That’s gnarly for sure, great way spend a couple thousand if that comes off 🫣
Off topic but... what brand scissor stand is that?
This one is a Tusk Brand from RockyMountain
What case saver was the using
This happened with the original owner so my guess is it was still the stock one
Why would you repack the wheel bearings with grease ?? , their a one time fit and your asking for trouble, just buy new ones
I will have to look into that! I wasn’t aware the tolerances change during removal! Thank you!!
@@nwmotogarage ask any mechanic worth his salt if they would reuse old wheel bearings once you have pulled or knocked them out, see what they say, guarantee the answer will be throw them away and buy new,
@@lanceoverton5919 I took your advice and ordered some new ones. When they arrive I will throw a pair of calipers on them and report back the results!! Thanks for watching and caring 👍
@@nwmotogarage no worries, I’d rather you were safe than sorry 👍
Why on earth would you repack those bearings with greese , it's so cheap to just replace them.....
I am not one to throw away good stuff just because it’s not new, they really feel just as good as new. However, I am getting enough comments about I just might go ahead and get new ones. Thank you so much for lighting the fire under me and changing my mind
@@nwmotogarage Sorry to say but the whole bike in my opinion needs to be tossed.Parts alone is going to cost you the price of a new bike which ofc is better.Hope your having fun you are a good mechanic.
What did u say ur name was?
Damn that thing was absolutely trashed. Even for a project I would prefer to start with something with a better maintenance record. That thing is the definition of hot garbage. I'm sure you'll get it all sorted out!
Part 4 is up and running to if you’re interested!! Unfortunately, the news gets even worse…
I know that bike and the first original owner.
I would love to get ahold of you and get some more history on the bike!! Send me a text at 503-510-3495 or shoot me a message on our Facebook page Northwest Moto Garage. Thank you so much for reaching out!

It’s because I am fresh at this brother! I greatly appreciate the compliment though! I look forward to more 👍
Naaaaa. He deserves this bike.... lololololol
I tell you what! I will have sure earned it by the end of this…. Bout ready to skip the rest of the videos and throw it all together so I can ride!!
I have the 07 made the most hp 450r had ever made even today they off by 3 hp in 07 the 5mm tilted head was introduced making it one of honda nastiest 450 I still have mine with original title 08 I loved cause right behind the number plate was first year they introduced the stabilizer which 07 don't have just some fun facts sick bike brother true unicorn
I have been doing a lot of research on the comparison of both and there are actually a lot of differences!! Unfortunately, the bolt that hold in the stabilizer has broken off and the stabilizer is nowhere to be found so I won’t be able to experience it. Maybe someone can get me one if I ask in a future episode
@@nwmotogarage they both have same 5mm offset on motor one don't have a stabilizer not to many differences at all 07 08 but if so please let me know im all ears even both made the same exact hp 55.74 oh sorry and the decomp on to the other literally nothing else
