This "method" takes the pressure off of making art that looks like something, and yet isn't just practice swatches. It made the idea of approaching art waaaay less stressful. THANK YOU for posting this video, and inspiring me to try it.

I'm just a beginner with watercolors. I've crafted all my life and because of you, I've started painting with watercolors. I can't draw very well, but thanks to you, I've realized I don't have to. Thank you so very much.

I've just gone to heaven! What a perfect idea....I doodle all day...somewhat disabled so I've always got paper and pens and pencils near. But NOW...I can make them more fun ...starting with water colour. Your a genius and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your doodles. Thank YOU.

My little sister tried to get me some watercolor paper for Christmas, and got me watercolor postcards by mistake...she was kinda bummed about, but I told her it was a bonus, and turned the postcards into a cute little book like the one you've made in the tutorial, only I added a hard cover wrapped in canvas.

Wow. I just had a deja vu experience: As a child in the 1970s, I often had similar, self-sewn booklets with me - without the watercolor preparation, I didn't know that yet - and a small bundle of very individually assembled pencils to be able to draw and paint always and everywhere. Often people thought I was a bit crazy with that. Ah. Which is undoubtedly true. How nice, but, I'm not alone with my pocket coloring books.
That being said, I love your crazy birds. That's exactly what I love to doodle when I'm still sitting haphazardly at my coloring table.

A great idea. Thanks! I waited in a clinic atrium during my husband’s appointment. Blue, blue, an odd green and old black and white photos of nuns. Even the framed art was blue, blue and green. The high point was watching the medical helicopter lift off. I read an entire Somerset magazine! I seriously needed a doodle book. Seriously!

I would like to thank you...for the instructive videos on booklets and flowers and brushes...etc...I have been languishing here and lost my way....but now I am creating booklets, back into making my cards handpainted of course) and I did try to buy the Princeton brushes but the shipping to New Zealand was same as the price as three brushes. I held back. I have found Princeton SNAP brushes by total accident at my local shop so I immediately bought a 4, 6 and 12...oooh, they do hold lots of water and I guess the SNAP name means they snap back....which is what they are doing. hanks. I love watching your videos!!!!

I just saw this this week and decided to try this. I made two books from mixed media paper and then painted some designs on some of the pages. The rest of the pages I left blank. So I now have two books to take with me to the doctor to sketch while waiting. This was a fun and inspirational exercise. Thank you!!

I look forward to many more shows and ideas that I can add to my day. Watching you paint and doodle is very inspiring. It helps me to see in a different way and it removes any fear of failure. I’ve been waiting for this! Yours is much simpler than the doodler book I haven been concocting in my head (and resulting in buying chipboard and washi tapes). Now that I’ve seen how you make yours, I can see that slim and simple is better. It’d be daunting to fill up 48 pages (that’s how many pages I had wanted it to be). 24 pages is more digestible and encouraging. I bought 140lb cotton watercolor paper. I probably have to Coptic bind 6 single folded sheets due to thickness. It may be better to use thinner mixed media paper for doodling.

    • @creationsceecee
      @creationsceecee  5 лет назад +1

yes, simpler is sometimes best. starting small is my motto and then i can move to bigger things. wishing you wonderful doodling creativity!

Art forces me to take baby steps because there’s no leaps and bounds except for rare born to be talents. BTW, yours show me that I should think “outside of the box” and use imagination to doodle. It isn’t just lines and shapes but birds, leaves, sleeping cats, or buildings may come out of these color blocks...thank you CeeCee! Love your channel and calming voice.

I made my first doodler journal! 90# cold press Bee paper. I have 8 pages from the one large sheet. I used a stiletto awl from a quilt store. I tied with coral linen thread. Let’s hope it works! I’m so excited, I could make them all day! But we’re snowed in here on Vancouver Island. Next week I hope to get more paper. Now, to begin color swatching. Oh, did I mention I’m brand new? My goal for January is to put paint to paper! Thank you so much CEECEE for your videos and inspiration♥️

Wow! I just love them (the birds) and everything else you have shown here. Thank you. When my boys (now in their 40's) were young, I would always carry notebooks/paper/pens with me so they could draw/doodle. I still have a few pages from one of the notebooks because they were so special. Yes I am the mum who saved the majority of her kids artwork and they are now in possession of it, and they love it (as do their children). I really think I am going to make these little booklets though, for some of the young grandchildren. Brilliant idea! Thank you for all the inspiration ♥

I don't know if you ever thought about making them a single book after you are done but... Here are a few ideas: you could sew them to a ribbon, to have a flexible spine, or glue their spines together, that makes the book spine stiff but it works, or just make knots connecting the stitch of one booklet to the other somewhat mimicking exposed binding. I think it would be a cute book at the end.

I made myself a similar setup a couple of weeks ago. I used canson xl 140 lb watercolor paper, and I felt like it was too thick to fold well. Instead of making signatures for a book I punched the top of the pages, then used some leftover cotton yarn to bind everything together. I made 2 little sketchbooks like this- one 6" x 9" and one 3" x 9". I throw one of those in my bag with my water brushes and my little travel palette and I can paint anywhere, anytime!
    Also, I love your birds!!

These are just THE cutest little guys! You've inspired me to do much more line & wash with my watercolors. I do not paint detail, but your yt videos have enabled me to sloooow down my brain, my hand, connect with the pieces I'm working on. My 1st birds were atrocious, but fun! I wrote you once before how your 3 dot flowers enabled me to do an entire autumn landscape, simply having misted a bit on my paper, drawing 3 flowers (which, ironically, turned into 3 fall trees!). I watched another of your recent flat brush florals 2 days ago, & once more, you inspired me to whip out my Stonehenge black wc paper. Turned out decent, not easy to work on black paper, but I did it, using several of your techniques! Who knew that I would create several paintings from detail work? And the flowers on my black paper took an entire 30 secs, and are gorgeous! Thank you, CeeCee, for your gifts that spill over into new areas, at least for me. LOVE your videos!

Watercolour (to me) is on the same par as classical music...Free flowing, relaxing and go with the flow! Play ! Ink and watercolour are great together! Ink a basic child like drawing and add watercolour ...you will love the transformation!

Thanks for the tip, every time I folded a card I wondered if I was folding it correctly. And I was 1 of the many that folded the crease the wrong way, lol.

Thank you for giving me the confidence to try watercolour painting. I've never tried it but I will now that I see how easy it can be to just begin with a shape. I love pen and ink so the rest will be easy for me. The doodle booklets are a great idea than being overwhelmed by large sheets to fill.

Dear Barbara, I recommend a little book by Royal Talens (Netherlands), they make little sketch books (12 x 12 cm / 4,7 x 4,7 inches) and they are for pencils, charcoal, chalk, graphite, crayons, ink and watercolours. I gave one to my dad and he´s so happy, especially due to the size, he´s not overwhelmed and it fits into his little backpack. :) In my country, they cost around 4-5 USD, so nothing crazy for 80 sheets (140 gr/m2 / 90 lbs. :)
