I just graduated with an associates in "diesel mechanics" which is just covering the complicated and technical aspects. Yet I'm more interested in the minor things you can do to keep a vehicle running like this. Keeping a vehicle running by rebuilding the same parts is a true skill.

I live in the US and used to do this for a living. Those are not gaskets. He is making insulators to keep the windings from shorting against the steel armature (and each other). Normally, you would rewind the motor using new wire that has an insulating coat of varnish on it. All that was burned off in the fire. He's reusing the windings because they are either 1) not available or 2) more expensive than the cost of labor in his country.
These craftsmen still exist in developing countries. If you noticed, when he needed turning, he took it to his neighbor lathe shop. They support each other this way.

I get your point but, things are way more reliable now than they were decades ago. They still rebuild stuff in the USA especially for large pieces of equipment, the difference is they dont do it in a way that gives the guy rebuilding it cancer from burning off the varnish on an open flame hes crowded over.

Things might have been built beefier years ago they also cost more to buy and maintain, I think you have some weird bias towards modern equipment. If you bought a car in the 60s you might have been able to rebuild every component of the car, and you would have to on a regular basis to keep it running, now to buy a car and drive it for 100k before you even have to do a tune up. Your logic is flawed my friend. I'm not a fan of over engineering shit to oblivion since I'm the guy that has to fix it and I want to fix everything I can, but things are built far better now for a lower cost point than ever. The tolerances are better the materials are better they are mass produced to bring the price down.

That was truly incredible. Like if you gave that to 10000 people and the tools he had and said i need a rebuild they would look at you like you lost your mind. The sad part is it looks like it took all day and he probably wont make that much off of having done such beautiful craftsmanship. Its art.
Ye, but commutator should never be this shiny, it's a little black not because it's dirty but because it's made that way - it lowers the friction. Also, any removing material from coils increases their resistance, lowering the current and also decreasing lifespan of motor. Also also, the soldering was made in such way, that there's no way to check for cold welds. Also also also, string as a way of prevention of deformation by centripetal forces is bad, for its lacks the strength and stretches to easily, adding it changes very little to nothing. Also also also, paper as an insulator in high current motor is a "no go". Now You have flame hazard all the time when You drive. Especially when this paper was so thin. Ya it may work and even better then before, but only for short time. He just cleaned it shiny, something that is not made to be shiny. It's more art then actual repair.
It is amazing that this man can completely rebuild and refurbish that fairly complex part using so little sophisticated equipment. And appears to do it as effortlessly as someone who has done it thousands of times.

I love these Vajayos so much! Living in the disposable society we live in today I just love watching people with skills and for the most part basic hand tools repair things! Watching old fashon hard work and skilled tradespeople do stuff is just so cool to me. It is like watching art forms that will be lost in the modern world of today....just shows you don't always need an app to do work!

This really puts into perspective how much human effort has been replaced during the industrial revolution. This part was machine made and it probably took minutes. This looks like a full day's work.

Because for them it cost much to buy new one , in poorer countries they always gonna find away to cost less, advanced countries care less about small things, they focus on bigger things to advance in technology, in poorer countries can fix but can’t create new and better engine, because third world countries they have no respect for scientists moreover their scientists fled away to advanced countries , they have low education system and no research facilities or scientific research and no creativity, That’s the difference between advanced countries and none advanced, Thinking minds and none thinking minds.
Old winding, in this case solid copper wires were shorted to the armature of the starter thus it was not working, he removed the old insulation and redo it completely to insulate copper from the armature which directly fixes the problem and brings it back in working condition.

People have marveled at my work , but I feel like a damned poser when I watch the work that some of these " third worlders " do with what they have at hand . That armature goes into Lucas starters. I've been rebuilding starters, alternators, and rewinding generator armatures for the last 14 years, this was actually pretty neat to watch. My hats off to you!
I repair motors the size of school buses, but I like repairing small stuff like this for personal use. I only have access to giant machines, so i have to do stuff by hand like this guy. He's so much better at fixing the small stuff than I am. I just wish he'd wear some gloves. At least around those chemicals.

I love these Vajayos so much! Living in the disposable society we live in today I just love watching people with skills and for the most part basic hand tools repair things! Watching old fashon hard work and skilled tradespeople do stuff is just so cool to me. It is like watching art forms that will be lost in the modern world of today....just shows you don't always need an app to do work!

Because for them it cost much to buy new one , in poorer countries they always gonna find away to cost less, advanced countries care less about small things, they focus on bigger things to advance in technology, in poorer countries can fix but can’t create new and better engine, because third world countries they have no respect for scientists moreover their scientists fled away to advanced countries , they have low education system and no research facilities or scientific research and no creativity, That’s the difference between advanced countries and none advanced, Thinking minds and none thinking minds.

This was the most impressive thing i know absolutely nothing about.
Old winding, in this case solid copper wires were shorted to the armature of the starter thus it was not working, he removed the old insulation and redo it completely to insulate copper from the armature which directly fixes the problem and brings it back in working condition.
Loll same. Don't even know what an armature is. But it's soothing to watch.

И ещё заметил. Там если имеешь токарный станок то уже барин по сравнению с другими работягами. Токарь ухоженный, чистый, отлично одет.
Станок это великая сила , но вот за станком чудо угробило труд деда . Такие вещи нужно в центрах протачивать что бы не было биения . А после такой "работы" будет колбасить этот ротор . Быстро и подшипники вылетят и щётки рассыпятся .

That armature goes into Lucas starters. I've been rebuilding starters, alternators, and rewinding generator armatures for the last 14 years, this was actually pretty neat to watch. My hats off to you!

I repair motors the size of school buses, but I like repairing small stuff like this for personal use. I only have access to giant machines, so i have to do stuff by hand like this guy. He's so much better at fixing the small stuff than I am. I just wish he'd wear some gloves. At least around those chemicals.
