I asked about the upgrade at the last service of my 2020 390, but was told it was not available for my bike. That lack of the gravel mode was one reason that I have since traded my 2020 390 for a new 2023 model. Very happy so far, but have not yet tried it on gravel as I haven't installed a bash plate or engine guards. Interestingly the new bike without any engine mods goes better than the old one with 14 tooth sprocket, and removal of the tool tray.
I see, that’s too bad they couldn’t figure it out. But at least you’ve got a new shiny bike🤟🏻. Yes, 14 sprocket makes an awesome different totally agree. Put a fuelx lite on there and you’re be even happier.
Does it? Do you know why it's pulling better than your previous bike? I don't think there were physical modifications that would help that, but I could be wrong. A more aggressive base ECU?
I don't know why, it could be just a newer fresher engine, or the difference between bikes. The mechanic did say the 2023 had a different ECU to the earlier models. I wont do the fuelx / exhaust mods until the warranty runs out. Dont want to give them any excuses if something goes wrong. Engine bars, skid plate, bar risers etc. go on tomorrow. One good thing about buying the same model bike is all the accessories just swap over. save some $$$$ for travel.
Hey mate First of all I would like to say that I really like your videos and got a lot of information about the KTM 390 Adventure. Thank you very much for that. Of course I follow your channel because the information helped me a lot. It's a shame you don't have more subscribers, but I'm sure they won't be long in coming if you continue at this high level. I appreciate your work and the effort you put into your great videos. All the best from Berlin/Germany
Good video. I have a 22 so it has the off-road mode. I have only used it on gravel, so i have no idea how it would be in mud, but i am happy with the gravel road performance. I should turn everything off, but havent needed to.
Thank dude. From what I hear, there’s no need to mess with anything once you’re in off road mode. But I’m gonna test this out and put up another videoS
Wow, that is great work! I have a 2022 and unfortunately did not have Ride modes at delivery (sept 2022). At the KTM dealer, I asked for a software upgrade last september together with the 7500km service, but they didn't find any upgrade. They said that it's probably not ready enabled for my chassis number. I will contact KTM Netherlands myself to ask for more info. Still hoping for this upgrade, but I'm happy for you bro!
Someone else mentioned here the same problem. They had the dealer contact KTM central and they received the upgrade from them allowing the dealer to then install the update. Hope this helps🫡
Finally I have managed to get the ride modes on a 2021 model in Europe. According to the workshop, SW version 1.10 already contains the ride modes, but only needed to be activated. And as far as I've seen, activation is possible only with newer version of the diagnostic tool.
I had the same issue in the UK. It only upgraded to version 10. On further investigations they discovered that I had a headlight fault error that was preventing the update. I am waiting for a call back but maybe thats the difference between UK and Japan. 😂
I did this recently on occasion of 15k service. All pass without issues, at least technicians haven't mention any problems. Honestly speeking I don't feel very big difference, besause I mot very experienced rider. So far I had chance to test it in mud, in sand I haven't tested yet, so will see. But assume only knowing that TCS let for more rear wheel spin helps a bit :)
That’s great to hear. I have yet to test, but so far I am liking what I feel off road. How was that 15k service? Was the valve adjustment pretty expensive?
@@advinjapan I did 15K service combined with lowering of the bike and renewing fork oil seals because they start leaking. I live in Poland and did it in authorized dealer workshop. All cost approx 470 EUR (2080 PLN) and it was double I paid for 7,5 k service
A bit different experience in my case... I had a 2022 model without off-road mode. I contacted KTM and they told me that factory enabled off-road mode has to do with the serial number of the bike NOT with the year of the model. I also had software v1.10 on TFT by the way... The dealer tried to see if there are new updates for my bike in order to get the off-road mode but they weren't. They contacted KTM, and KTM provided them with an extra update - that wasn't available to them in the beginning - that finally got me off-road mode installed. So, to the people that their dealers say they don't have any newer updates, it's probably the truth. This needs to be figured out with communication between dealer and KTM. By the way, a small correction on your video, even after the latest updates MTC returns to ON with an engine restart. It's the riding mode that doesn't reset. Thank you for another great video! Cheers.
Hey thanks for this. Actually I have a feeling this is what happened in my case too. While I did have that abs error, my guess is they also received instructions from central office on how to get it done. Glad you worked it out dude! As for the correction, that’s actually what I meant, I guess I worded it wrong 🥴.
For me, it was quite surprising experience. Just regular oil change activity, then suddenly the shop owner asking me if I'm interested to get the updates. Not sure if it's beneficial at that time, but hey, any upgrade supposedly giving some benefit right? So I agreed, then voila, I got ride mode! And IT IS THE BEST!! ❤
Yes, I totally agree. I’ve got a video coming out very soon where I have out the ride modes and ride settings to the test. Ride modes are a clear winner for me too!
The mechanic didnt know there was an ABS code because the ABS doesn't throw an engine code, it throws an ABS code. You don't see an ABS code unless you specifically scan the ABS system for it. And without a customer complaint, service to the ABS system, or the ABS light on the dash lit up, there isn't any reason to do it. Now that they know the ECU can't be updated with a grey ABS code im sure they will start scanning the ABS codes going forward now. Live and learn.
I have a 2020 in the USA I’m trying to get Offroad mode updated. Hope it works!! I’ll be showing my KTM dealer this video if they have trouble. Many thanks!
@@advinjapan thanks for the reply! I have read all the comments and it seems hidden ABS codes can prevent the Offroad ride mode updating. But as far as you know, a 2020 390 in the USA can get the Offroad ride mode? Is there any difference between countries that would limit that to your knowledge? Thanks for the help! Also subscribed!
@@advinjapan so I just got off the phone with the KTM dealership in Colorado, USA. He said he was talking to the main KTM service rep for the United States based in Ohio and said there’s absolutely no way to get an update on the older 390s to get an off-road ride mode unless you do a manual upload, and there are only two people in the United States who can do a manual upload. He was one and he said there was another guy in California, but that was for research and development purposes only. So I’m not sure how you were able to get that unless it’s the fact that you’re in another country and the update is available in a different country. But as far as the United States goes, there is no way to get off-road ride mode on a 2020 or 2021 390. 😭. I have not really had a chance to test this bike out in the dirt as I just bought it and the girlfriend has been riding it a little bit. But it doesn’t seem to me that it would work nearly as well as a 2022 with Offroad ride Mode. What are your thoughts on how your bike handled dirt trails before you got the update? Can it climb dirt hills and spin the rear tire enough to actually make it up to the top or do you lose all momentum?
hi advinjpan. did you remove your fuel x lite when they perform the update? and do you need to reaet the auto tuning in the fuel X since its a new firmware on your ecu?
Hey thanks for the comment. No, I did not remove the fuelx lite. According to Powertronic, if any modifications are made to the bike that affect the air/fuel mixture, all you need to do is let bike idle for two minutes before use. You only need to do this once. After that, 30 second idle is probably good enough.
Is anyone here, dealing with any noice coming from front head or key switch area while riding? (It is like rumbling/ratelling noice) and it is getting louder and louder as the days passes. And yes it is not coming from fuel lid i checked it multiple times. Plz anyone out there who could help me with this, would be great.

Yes, that exactly why I made this video. Yes, I have version 10. You need to ask them to call KTM central. It could be an error code that needs clearing, or they need further instruction/software for this upgrade. Don’t give up. This is totally doable. If they still can’t help, find another dealer.
