While helping a dear friend declutter to downsize, we found a lost heirloom diamond ring that had been lost for 30 years, an envelope with cash- lots of cash- over $1,000, and a dead mummified squirrel- all in the same top drawer of a chest of drawers in the guest bedroom. The drawer was completely full and so heavy we just reached in and dealt with each random item. The squirrel as it turned out was a high school science project for her daughter. Her daughter is about 60 years old. This is truly on of this most memorable moments of decluttering I have ever had.

  • @kraesmom1

I love the new plan and also that you consider the homeowner's normal tendencies when devising your solutions. So many home "makeover" shows and organizing shows just go in and set up systems for a hypothetical perfect family that doesn't actually live there and it's not something that looks like it's sustainable for the actual inhabitants. I feel like this is different because these are solutions that a family with a fast-paced schedule and lots going on can keep up long-term. I LOVE that your homeowner was so willing to purge the unnecessary items! She made it SOOOOO much easier to help her!
My only criticism at all is the lack of labels. I, too, am a ladybug, and I live with people that will (sort of) maintain a system IF the homes are clearly defined. So those bins at the top of the closet? They'd need a label (especially because I'm 5'2" and we height challenged people do NOT like to have to get a stepstool just to see what's in each one because we forgot). I'd also be labeling the edges of the shelves for the pantry so that the other half knows where the groceries need to be put away. I've just found life is easier if the homes have address labels so the whole world can identify where they live. :) Great job Cas! (and good job being being a family safety advocate by putting the fire alarm back up)

I helped my late grandmother with some of her stuff years ago (thank goodness I wasn't the one to clear out her home when she passed!), and she had all kids of crazy stuff. Bras from the 1950-1960 she would never fit in again, neatly folded and labeled in her storage closet, all kinds of jars and containers from various foods, meticulously cleaned and arranged in case you ever wanted to store something in them, those brown plastic things from chocolate boxes where the chocolates sit - many of them, stored neatly because she once saw how to make a lamp shade from those, spare parts (neatly arranged and labeled, all of them!) to every kind of appliance she has ever owned. The lady was the neatest hoarder I have ever encountered, and she knew where all her stuff was, just in case.
I have to keep reminding myself that I don't want to do that, even if that box is a nice useful box, and those jars are pretty neat, and screws form that thing could be useful for another thing.... one day!

When my oldest was little I saw a tip to keep all the school papers and at the end of the year go through them and keep the best. BAD advice for me-it turned it into a clutter pile and a huge project that became something I dreaded doing and so I avoided it. I now sort things as they come in (usually) and I only keep creative writing or art, or awards. Everything else goes, and I still have to weed that down to the best. I have a file for each grade and one for preschool-and one file for school photos. When the file is too full I go through it and pare it down again. At least the paperwork decreases significantly after elementary school.

You are so much fun Cass! Been watching you for years before all your success. You helped me get my space decluttered and organized along with some other organizers along the way. I have never gone back. And it's a continual process, as you always say. Decluttering is key. I use a 5 minute timer all the time. I love watching these types of videos. So many good ideas. Always inspiring and so much joy to watch!! Would love to see more of these vids.

Boy have I been there… also a nurse. Kids. Working crazy shifts. I did the best I could at the time but would love to have had a Cas to guide me! They are grown now. I work from home and things are much easier. Hang in there young, working Moms. You’ve got this! 👍🏻. Can’t wait to see the end of this one!

Hi CAs. I only wish I had kids and a husband to help with my chaos in my house. I watch your videos and get the urge to fix things but being a caregiver to my 90 yr old folks comes first. (2households) I’m trying to not use them as excuses but I feel they are my main priority and my home life takes a back seat. I love ❤️ your advise and I know I collect lots of “things” that I have to realize aren’t important. I will keep watching and bit by bit I will get things organized…I hope. Thanks Cas!!

I like that you went from area to area and tossed and set aside donations. And began getting ideas for areas and zones. That made a lot of sense.
I’m dealing with a completely overwhelming space where everything has not been loved for a long time. So we don’t even know what we have to enjoy anymore. I’m slowly but surely chipping away at it. But when I arrived I had to literally toss stuff & create a mountain at the side of the room so I could get in, and walkways. 2 deaths in 5 deaths in 2 years, plus me being gone for 2 years created a whole mess.
So, thank you for posting these videos, it gives me hope. Bless you.❤

five minutes in and I'm loving this! I can see how helpful this will be - and the two women are light-hearted and kind, and able to laugh about what is so human, and so understandable for people who have kids and jobs and need help making life a bit more streamlined and workable.

The shelf by fridge is awesome, we have one like it alongside a deep freeze, under it we have appliance rollers( cheap ones) so that removes reaching, just haul shelves forward, access what's needed and roll on back😀, easy is great. that house looks amazing and is functional for that busy Mom. Great video.

I loved this video :D. I benefited so much from Cas, I literally threw out 4 bag of trash, after reorganising my kitchen with zoning. It took me 3 days to get used to the final places, but OMG my kitchen is still clean after a week, everything has it's own designated space. Couldn't have been more grateful for Clutterbug, for doing all the content on how to love our house. Greetings from another mom :)!
