About their albums, Blackwater Park isn't a conceptual album. With Ghost Reveries they tried to do a conceptual album but finally they decided to do an independent tracks record. Their record Still Life is a conceptual album and one of the best Opeth records imho (you should react to the entire album) ;)

Love the reaction, girls, very genuine which is not that common on these channels! Love that you tried to head bang, but understood that with the syncopated rhythms that's difficult... As far I know, blackwater park is not a concept album. The only 2 concept albums of Opeth are "My arms, your hearse" and "Still life"

One thing missing from your "harlequin " definition (and it IS correct!) It also refers to the sickly smile of the hanged man/woman...resembling a clown face as their blood drains. In THIS song I think it means "the forest of suicides " in Dante's "Inferno"

If you love Tool (you do, I know :D), you should check out Opeth discography more, for sure. They are legends of progressive metal genre and this album Ghost Reveries is a classic! The next album Watershed is their last with growls and then they changed their style. Previous album Deliverance is probably their most brutal. All three are great, you should do an album reaction!

So yea, some context helps to understand what the song might be about. One interpretation of the story of this album is that a guy kills his mother in the first track, and the rest of the album explores the consequences of that action-kind of like Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. The man being chased by hounds through the dark / demonic forest could be literal (he's being hunted by the authorities because he is wanted for his crime), or it could be metaphorical (He's perpetually tormented by his wounded conscience.)
Either way, if you're into lyrical analysis, Opeth albums almost demand analyzing the whole thing at once; since they're almost always concept albums. Keep it up guys, love your appreciation for good music!

Hello. You need to try "deliverance" and "ghost of perdition". Those songs are an obligation if you want to start with opeth, and if you like the old opeth you should listen to "advent" or "when", but all of their songs are fantastic.
