If you don't know the Beatles music much, you will find only a few other songs in their catalog in a similar vein. Some of the most trippiest sounding would be It's All Too Much, Blue Jay Way, and Only A Northern Song. They had so many styles, and psychedelic was just one of many they experimented with.

Yeah, this album is quite good. I am VERY excited to see the next part...so many excellent songs! Also your face when Head Mounted Sideways.....that riff goes so hard! I especially love the synth textures there - they, while not an exact match, remind me of Vangelis' music from Bladerunner.

I got introduced to Leprous through this album. While I dig their older stuff ( I grew up on all kinds of metal), I LOVE their newer stuff. Especially Pitfalls and the follow-up album Aphelion, because they're basically some kind of agressive jazz :D

Experienced lyricism via Irish Gaeilge! Pre-requisite cognize identified album 'Pitfalls' (2019) via digital platform Bandcamp. A contemporary autonomously continuity underrated underground independent prog opus. Allusion, the pedagogy phonetics octave vocalization which introspectively parallelism to illustrious virtuoso instrumentalist Foy Vance :)

"That was an unacompanied bass pedal solo from Michael Rutherford" 😅 Progressive rock grew out of the experimental and psychedelic era of the second half of the 1960s in the United Kingdom especially in England and reached its peak between 1969 and 1974. Albums became double albums and concept albums and live performances grew to fill stadiums with grand stage sets and sometimes costumes, too. The show began to take over for the music and the music became grandiose and above the listening patience of many. By this time too, the social climate was changing and the hopeful, forward-looking youth of the sixties were being replaced by a new generation who faced a grimmer, un-promising reality. It is said that the decline of prog came at the pivotal year of 1974 but its demise occurred once punk rock became the new music of youth around 1976 and 77. By the late seventies, punk, disco, and New Wave were what young people were into and the older generation of long-haired and bearded (except for the ladies) musos found themselves playing to smaller audiences or only partially filled venues. Not just progressive rock, but the fledgling musical style that had become termed heavy metal also fell out of public favour as it too tried to be musically complex and intelligent. Only bands like AC/DC with their rawer and simpler approach to hard rock were able to find big success during punk’s rise to the forefront. Progressive Rock is an expansive, and interesting genre and the 1980s may well have been the most…interesting time for Prog yet. In 1985, fans who had spent years yearning for an ELP reunion got their wish…sort of. Keith Emerson and Greg Lake had fully intended to reunite with original drummer, Carl Palmer, but apparently, Carl Palmer’s contractual obligations with Asia prevented the trio from fully reforming, and so, Emerson and Lake pivoted to Cozy Powell and formed something of an unintentional supergroup. Now, while Cozy Powel was extremely capable, and had his own pedigree having been a member of the Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Whitesnake, and more, he was an entirely different animal than Carl Palmer and was really more of a hard-hitting, Heavy Metal drummer, which was a far cry from ELP’s 70s Prog Rock stylings. Really, aside from allowing the group to continue on as “ELP,” this arrangement made little to no sense, and so, it was no great surprise that the new trio’s debut record, Emerson, Lake & Powell, was quickly forgotten, and the trio quietly disbanded. While the original ELP would later reunite in 1991, still, this spinoff version of ELP, featuring Cozy Powell is a truly cool record. Sure, it’s dated by the presence of gated reverb drums, and CORG synths, but there is a lot to love here, and there are tinges of classic 70s ELP laced throughout. Retrospectively, Emerson, Lake & Powell is just quirky and intelligent enough to have garnered status as a sleeper classic. From my perspective, the real low point of progressive rock was in the late 80’s when even neo-prog bands were choosing to write more commercial and conventional-sounding pop music. Aside from the progressive metal movement which was still gaining momentum, there were only hints that progressive rock had not died. It Bites included some very fine prog compositions on their second album “Once Around the World” and Ozric Tentacles were gaining ground with their unique take on music. The final attempted blow to the progressive rock genre was likely the grunge explosion of the early 90’s. 🤘🏼

The nu metal era of 2000's trends! bleach blue gel hair and baggy clothes, I'm blue da ba dee da ba di ba da ba ba bah hahaha. Nu metal has existed in the UK since 1995 with the formation of bands like Kill II This, One Minute Silence, Charger and Pulkas. The first album to be released under this genre in Great Britain was 1996's Another Cross II Bare by Kill II This. But nu metal did exist in the UK in the 90s. Other 1990s UK nu metal bands include Pitchshifter (formed in 1989; later releases only), Skindred (formed in 1998), Apartment 26 (formed in 1998), Defenestration (formed in 1999), Earthtone9 (formed in 1998), Miocene (formed in 1997; first album only), Lostprophets (formed in 1997; first two albums only), Raging Speedhorn (formed in 1998; first album only), SugarComa (formed in 1999), InMe (formed in 1996; first album only), Sunna (formed in 1998; first album only), Zero Cipher (formed in 1999), Vacant Stare (formed in 1998), Fony (formed in 1998), Crawlblind (formed in 1997). Other albums are 1998's Deviate (Kill II This), 1998's pitchshifter aka my favorite UK nu metal album (Pitchshifter, the first nu metal album they did), 1998's Avaliable in All Colours (One Minute Silence), 1998's Greed (Pulkas), 1998's Lo-def(inition) Discord (earthtone9), 1999's Off Kilter Enhancement (earthtone9), 1999's The Foul Year of Our Lord (Charger), 1999's Hallucinating (Apartment 26), 1999's Generation Sap (Cyclefly), 1999's That's The Way to Do It! (Crawlblind) etc. The first overseas nu metal band to have a concert across the pond was back in 1995 with Korn under their self titled album tour, the first time a British nu metal band had concert overseas was in 1998 with Pitchshifter (not counting their concerts from before then, considering they weren't exactly a nu metal band prior to 1998, even though they were already having concerts overseas before that point). 1998 was a pretty big year for album releases and band formations over there it seems, though most of these bands were broken up by 2004 or 2005. Producer Ross Robinson was labelled by some as “The Godfather of Nu Metal” due to his producing of several notable nu metal albums, the first of which - Korn’s eponymous first album KoЯn - has been noted as the very first nu metal album. And then the follow-up Life Is Peachy, which would become one of the defining albums of the genre, along with subsequent groundbreaking release Follow the Leader. Ross later denounced the nu metal movement for becoming complacent and the newer bands for not expanding on the style.

My Danzig therapy session 😛 plot twist, life would be very different if the Birmingham new wave band were comprised solely of Glenn Danzig. I’d be Hungry Like The Killer Wolf, though lol. The longest debut single track "Godless" (clocks 6:51) via album Danzig III: How The Gods Kill (1992). During this time many bands found a new way to evolve and grow to create albums that would become monumental and impactful. One such album is Danzig III: How The Gods Kill. The end result is the best album Danzig has ever put out. Though it’s a bit of a departure from their past two albums. Influence and Legacy: Danzig is often credited with helping to shape the sound of heavy metal in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Danzig self-titled debut album and subsequent releases feature a darker, more atmospheric sound that has influenced many bands across genres. Cult Status: Danzig has achieved a cult status, particularly among fans of heavier music. Their imagery, lyrical themes, and Glenn Danzig's distinctive vocal style resonate with fans who appreciate the blend of horror and mythology in their work. Live Performances: Danzig is known for their powerful live shows, which further solidifies their reputation among rock and metal fans. Danzig's theatricality and Glenn's commanding presence contribute to a memorable concert experience. The track may evoke this feel, but Glenn Danzig himself is a spiritual atheist ♫ 🇬🇧

“What?!” 😀😁 We had that exact response 100 times listening to a new Beatles song: you NEVER knew what to expect and they were ALWAYS ahead of us. Another Reactor said recently that no matter what the genre was that they would be playing, even hardcore, they always had a touch of elegance in it that no one else had. ☺️ Their catalogue is SO deep - they mastered EVERY genre. Almost everyone who knows only a few songs thinks of their earliest recordings “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” through Rubber Soul. But thereafter: the sky was the limit. I always LOVED their weirdest tracks like this, and: Come Together I Am the Walrus A Day in the Life Within You Without You For “harder tracks” Revolution (MUST be the live version) Helter Skelter Happiness Is a Warm Gun I Want You (She’s So Heavy) But also you MUST hear their shockingly beautiful (not sappy) Dear Prudence Oh Darling Don’t Let Me Down Here Comes the Sun That’s a great start. Listen to each of the above ALWAYS on headphones and you’ll begin to understand them better 😉 Enjoy! 🥰

Amorphis, to me, is pre-Am Universum era. After that, never been able to get back to them. Elegy and Tales From The Thousand Lakes are their masterpieces. I would have recommended you to start there, but better late than never ;)
