nice deep dive on an amazing band! you should check out something from Daath's new album "The Deceivers", there are 4 or so singles from the album and all of them are amazing!
Melodic death metal is indeed a whole different universe compared to traditional American death metal, incorporating progressive or even folk influences. Bands like Dark Tranquillity, Edge of Sanity, At The Gates, In Flames.. are prime examples of this style. Hopefully, you'll get to explore and react to all of them! ☺
You'll Never Walk Alone on autumn in Liverpool lol. During this period in 1990's death metal in Britain were mostly a decade of doom, with Orange Goblin, Electric Wizard and Cathedral sludging toward six-foot-deep stoner rock while Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema droned into the darkest goth fog. Napalm Death, Carcass, and Bolt Thrower are some of the most influential bands in this genre. Death metal musicians often employ intricate musical techniques and time signatures, which can be challenging for casual listeners to appreciate. This complexity might alienate those who prefer simpler musical structures. What would be Death Metal if it wasn't for Cookie Monster vocals? Basically it's low growls and high pitched raspy screams that's the most integral part of the song. John Entwistle did it way back in 1968 in The Who's song Boris the Spider, and then it was Kam Lee and Chuck Schuldiner that developed the modern vocal delivery. Basically Old School played with more technicality 🤘🏼 🇬🇧
I’m glad you started with WFIKTBD. You’re probably going to get a lot of suggestions for SLAUGHTER OF THE SOUL, being their most streamlined and popular album. But this album has the complexity of their earlier albums with the fury of their future releases. But it’s all good. At The Gates are one of the greats of melodic death metal.

You can not go wrong with Swedish bands ❤❤
