  • Full story here, please read me 😊 After a lovely introduction from the Dean, singing starts 1min 30secs. This was a big deal for Cormac, we are very grateful to everyone for supporting him. 👍, comment, share 🙏 We will be uploading more songs v soon. Easier not to miss them if you hit that notification bell on Cormac's channel.
Cormac opened his #liveperformance with his most recent release 😊 Accompanied on the organ by the wonderful @harveystansfieldmusician and his equally wonderful singing teacher Daphne Sumbler, it really was a day to remember for him. A BIG THANK YOU to @blackburncathedralmusic and @blackburncathedral for having the faith in Cormac to pull this off! A nerve wracking experience for any musician but especially when you're only #12 #Boytreble #chorister #recital #sing
Recorded by #dadcam (i.e. a phone and ipad!) We were pleasantly surprised that it worked so well. Cormac's #liverecital treated his audience to 8 songs but that's way too long for one video! The vocal is completely live and has not been touched but BIG THANKS to @Dinokazamia for a brilliant video edit👏👏👏

Cormac, I know this was a long time ago.
You have an impressive self-confidence when performing live. From the very career start and throughout.
Spellbinding your audience with your magical radiance, even before you start singing.
So this is just a comparison then and now, and far into the future.🥰

Thank you, I was really nervous doing this, I spent the summer holidays learning all the songs I sang, i think i did about 8 😊 and I'd been to the studio to record Pie Jesu, May it Be, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas the week before this too, it was a busy summer, no holidays that year but travelling was still all weird cos of covid anyway so that was ok 🎵

You are a blessing dear Cormac, this Sunday, September 12, it will be 3 years since my father passed away and the sadness is eternal in me, you despite the distance and not knowing us in person, I am happy with your songs, good treatment and way of being, I began to support you for being a Child since only you are able to bring me joy, the one I need so much. Thank you very much indeed, thanks also to your parents for the great education in values they give you, excellent song as always.

I was wondering who was going to follow Aksel Rykvvin and Cai Thomas, boy trebles par excellence, whose voices have now both changed, when my wife play a video of Cormac singing "Empty Chairs..." There is something about the boy treble voice that elicits tender emotions and rave reviews and the comments here show that. Many find his singing irresistible and I thought he did Empty Chairs very well. He has an ear for popular songs. He has a lovely timbre and always sings in tune. He has that wonderful boy treble habit of picking high notes completely cleanly out of the air, something which most of our current opera singers seem unable or unwilling to do. After listening to several of Cormac's tracks, I still wanted to hear more. He is an interesting singer. All that said, I think that Cormac has far to go to achieve the standard recently set by Aksel and Cai. His tone, while clear and in tune, is sometimes thin and there is a breathiness in the middle voice that should not be there in classical music. It passes as a technique which some may like in pop songs, but not here. Watching him, he never seems to take much of a breath and he does indeed break phrases into smaller pieces than most singers. This is particularly noticeable in songs like Handel's WYW, where most of the phrasing is pretty much standard, but it's there in other pieces, too. WYW is a difficult song to sing well, and with so many well known renditions from John McCormick on down, it isn't something you should do unless you can at least sing all the phrases and notes more or less as they do. In this rendition, there is no ornamentation in the da capo, which many boy trebles have done, and there are no turns or trills, either, and these latter are more or less standard for any singer in this piece. I think that some of these technical issues may just be due to a lack of training and I wondered, "who is teaching this fellow?" While it takes some time to make a habit of proper breathing, it isn't that difficult to teach. While Cormac's vibrato-less singing is acceptable and even preferred by some for trebles, you can't sing runs and trills without learning a proper vibrato (which you can learn to turn on and off) and the vibrato goes with using a full breath. Once that comes on, you can work to sing runs and trills "on the vibrato," (Vennard). I wish Cormac great success in several more years of singing as a treble, and I hope he also finds help to grow as a vocal artist during that time. If that happens, I'd love to hear him sing more Handel and even some of Handel's, Purcell's and Mozart's more demanding pieces.
