I really enjoyed the video. I once did a blind test of dunkability for a biscuit company and one of the questions was whether the biscuit broke when you tried to dunk, or whether it was just perfect for dunking. You basically have to know your biscuit 🤣. Don't be put off by the meanies, thank you for all of the time and effort you put into your videos 🙂

Im with papa booth on this one - when you're having a biscuit you'll never dunk it for more than a few seconds before having a nibble, so it doesn't really matter how long the biscuit can last win a continuous dunk, provided it lasts for those initial few seconds.
I was not prepared for the structural integrity test lol
ill admit im on papa booth's side, testing which is the best for dunking is about how well they all taste after a standard dunk in the tea - they dont have to last for a minute submerged in the tea to be a good dunking biscuit hahaha

So glad you decided to address this important topic. I'm serious. Who needs buscuits falling apart ruining their tea on top of the stress of a pandemic? Father Booth seems to have the most pragmatic idea. A bad dunking biscuit will fall apart fast.

I feel like grace was testing how long you can dunk them and papa booth was testing for best flawor when dunking nobody was wrong per se just different. Anyway we got a 2 for 1 test so a win for us lol
Honestly, the nightmare of dunking would be for a biscuit to break in the cup. A dunking connoisseur knows just the right amount of time to dunk before it breaks and feels they are a failure if the biscuit breaks and ruins the tea. It's not about the biscuit and how long it lasts before breaking, it's all about the skill of the dunker 🤣.
Maybe the mix up between you and papa Booth is in the interpretation of the word "dunk"? Maybe you believe dunk to be when the biscuit breaks, and papa Booth believes it to be the act of submerging in the tea to soften it slightly? 🙂

Dad is right. Your test has no real-world practical application. No one is sitting there with their biscuit in tea until it drops. Your test also doesn't determine the best dunking biscuit, only the longest lasting. The longest lasting biscuit is arguably the worst because it absorbs the least amount of tea, defeating the purpose of the dunk in the first place.
A very good point. I want a biscuit that can absorb quickly whilst retaining some sort of bite. Not a soggy mess. It is good to know which biscuits will go soggy more quickly however so I will dunk for 1-2 seconds rather than 4-5 seconds per se for a typical biscuit. I think having both experiments is important.

I am odd, I maintain the ultimate dipping biscuit is the lotus biscoff… it has the structural integrity to survive dipping, and a mild enough flavour to compliment tea, not overwhelm it.

Grace, I'm with your dad on this one: I think you should just see which ones taste best after being dipped in tea. However, I'm American and never really dip stuff in tea or coffee, but I have to add that a "digestive" sounds like something that should be taken as medicine if you have indigestion! I guess here we call a digestive a cookie. ;)

I'm the same! At my wedding my Dad brought up my love of rich tea biscuits in his speech and how as child I'd always have two at once!
So funny how you said that there's something off putting about tea in a glass.. because in The Netherlands it is very normal to drink tea from a glass. People mostly drink it from a class cup sometimes a mug. And we also don't drink tea with milk. Only children sometimes drink tea with milk. :) Fun culture fact! X Hannah
I'm in Canada and an avid tea drinker. To me tea tastes different in every way depending on the mug. That's why I have favourites. In a china mug? Yes please but I rarely use those. Too precious. I'm far from a child but I have mine with milk :)

Have you ever done the penguin bar tea trick? Bite the opposite corners off, dunk it in the tea and use it as a straw, once the tea hits your mouth, shove the whole penguin in one's gob like an absolute heathen 😂, it's so good though! X

I agree with Dad, the better test would just be which one tastes better dunked. There are too many variables to do the "how long will it last" test, tea is getting colder as the test goes on etc. Dads right on this one.

My rule of thumb is "the plainer the biscuit, the better". So it's things like HobNobs, Digestives and Rich Tea for me... not Bourbons, Jammie Dodgers or anything covered in chocolate. (I like them separately, but not when dunked in tea or coffee.)
I love chocolate covered biscuits dipped as the chocolate melts and protects the biscuit from getting soggy. But I get the plain biscuit with tea combo, for years my breakfast would be about half a packet of rich tea biscuits with a huge mug of tea, and I never gained any weight!
