Serie is both a nuclear arms dealer and an advocate of strict gun control. Truly a multifaceted elf for the ages.

"its not killing your clone that matters, its the planning we made for killing our clones along the way"
    That one got me lmao

When the flashback and gentle conversation outshines the well choreographed fight, you know you're watching a masterpiece of art.
Serie is the ultimate tsundere. She showed a moment's shock at Flamme's death, then dodged Frieren's question about whether she's sad.
"I only trained her on a whim" she says before showing her so immersed in the memories that she holds Flamme's hand in the past and present.
"We didn't understand each other" she says before revealing how deeply she understood Flamme.
"It disgusted me" she says with the biggest smile on her face we've seen so far.

I read this while watching the series and it said that Series’s “only trained her on a whim” is basically Frieren’s “a mere ten years”

Using as little mana as possible to create a shield as small as possible was how they said you're supposed to use defensive magic when they introduced the concept.

You gotta wonder at this point if Heiter actually helped the hero’s party or if he was just a black-out drunk they dragged by the leg everywhere like a heavy bag of luggage

And then you remember how vulnerable warriors and mages are against curses (as we saw with the chaos flower curse that puts people to sleep), and you realise heiter might've been the main reason they managed to survive the journey.

So a good real world analogy for Frierens weakness that I have heard used is it's like someone firing a gun and at the moment of pulling the trigger fully and firing they close their eyes. Leaves enough of an opening for someone that is experienced and also makes it harder for you to then go on the offensive again for a second, third or etc shot.

These Frieren uploads have been the best thing for me personally from you my guy and I cry every time I get a notification for an upload and it isn't Frieren, I am sure this one will be great as the rest!

Serie's position on magic makes a lot of sense when you consider it from the perspective of someone known as a "living grimoire"
Serie knows there are a lot of silly little utility spells but she also knows the kinda insane devastation magic can do. If every half baked hedgemage can case apocalyptic magic, what does that mean for the state of the world?
Serie wants to bring great mages to her level so they can keep the world of magic in check

I have to say, I really was half expecting and kind of hoping for the weakness to be mimics, and they would need to distract her with treasure or something, but this was a little more narratively satisfying.

Nice thoughts on Serie; you're right about Serie being fond of Flamme. Serie always uses spiteful words everytime she talks about Flamme, and yet, she can only talk about fond memories of Flamme. I guess all anime needs to feature a tsundere 😅.
I also like your thoughts about magic meaning different things to different people.

And it took a little while, but she is fulfilling flame's last request in a way now. She is just a tsundere.

Serie is the ultimate Tsundere. The tsundere from the dawn of time.

"You'd think there'd be more of [the elves] in that case." Well there's two factors for why there aren't more elves. Firstly, the Demon King waged genocide against them. Secondly, and most importantly, Frieren explained that elves don't have reproductive urges. So they weren't having a lot of kids to begin with, and then most of them got wiped out.

Flashback inception. Frieren has a Flashback of her meeting with Serie after Flammes death, when in that Serie flashes back to the moments of young Flamme telling about her.

Fern was taught, ordinary offensive magic is enough to fight mages of this era... see Frieren for once using other actual battle spells ❤next episode is my fave, cant wait to see your reaction to it :D

I love the choreography of Fakeren vs Frieren (and Fern). But my absolute favorite moment is 7:39. It's so simple yet so meaningful. This is realistically how a 1v1 against a perfect copy of you would go. It's way more mind games than Death Note because even if you go "I should think before doing this, but my clone probably knows I'll do that, so I should do this instead... but my clone may notice that I'll try not to do that... so I should do this, but...", it's quickdraw in an attempt to shoot each other but they don't even fire because the other one knows they're gonna block it. It's a perfect 50/50 fight and Fern is the catalyst to make the fight go either way, if you were fighting 1v1 against a clone, the slightest inconvenience would mean your downfall, a light glimmer of the sun, a pebble in your footwork, a fly nearing your face, even the slightest change of terrain would change the fight completely.
You can't outplay yourself, because you're already thinking of outplaying yourself. The POV is also so smooth between changes, literally nothing except for Fakeren to Frieren's color changes, it's how deep they're into this equal matchup.

Serie being already alive at the dawn of human civilization is craaazy.
That being said i think Serie doesn't want to be special, she wants Magic to be special, she is willing to teach anyone who was the talent to become a high tier mage, because she value potential, she doesn't want to waste time teaching people who don't have talent, which is why she did teach Flamme, she had the talent to become a great mage, Serie, being the legendary great mage that she is, surely could easily tell.
I also have another theory that she doesn't want weaker mages to be born because they would just be killed in battle for no reason, but i cannot yet validate this theory completely, even tho from a future episode it becomes very likely to be true imo.
Anyway i absolutely love Serie, she is my favourite character, i won't deny that i love overwhelming power, but her personality and her dialogs are just so damn good, every time she's on screen it's a highlight to me.

If you haven’t defeated a exact clone of yourself….Can you even call yourself a hero!?
