=== THE SPACE BETWEEN THE NOTES ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE NOTES THEMSELVES -- IF NOT MORE SO." - ~DAVID GILMOUR = - Something we can all learn from. I can "pull off" some leads on my Korg keyboard, was more of rhythm guitar player (6 and 12 string in my youth) - think Dogs by PF and Long Train Running by Doobie Brothers. Synchopated was my thing.
So I'm way behind all of you who had the discipline to learn to play lead over such backing tracks. THAT SAID...
I recall a recent Gilmour BBC interview - where he pointed out the almost verbatim thing he said opening this post - what sets him apart from from so many besides his liquid glide mastery of his guitars. Knowing when to riff "orgasmic" and then when to glide into and with silences.
Too many people (and I'm guilty of this in my own way in terms of "over-production"'/"over-arrangement.") to fill up space with notes. In short, turns to sonic mud.
The best stuff I have done is indeed with the "less is more" tenet. And variation between the slow sustains and releases into silence and the faster riffs. Something we all should keep in mind and do for the masters are masters for a reason.... :)
@Jean-Christophe Paulau - I listened to your riff on this backing vocal and you have some great mastery on the riffing and melodics. I feel you could hit a whole new level doing what Gilmour states. And the cool thing is that it takes far, far less actual notes to do those slow-glides-and-silence-spots - lol. Less laborious.

I'm hoping to find a 4-5 minute version of this if it exists. I'm just not good enough to fill that whole time. XD

@Jean-Christophe Paulau - See my posting opening with the David Gilmour quotation "=== THE SPACE BETWEEN THE NOTES....." one. I added a small P.S. to at the end. I heard your SoundCloud take on this backing track. You've got the mastery of the notes and melodic timing. But I kept waiting for the "breather" - the glide, slow-down, the allowing of some silence, then starting back up. I'd enjoy hearing you apply some of "The" master's sonic wisdom. :) Bonne chance avec tes aventures de musique. ~ PSK
