I lost the bottom half of my right lung to cancer in January of this year. I was cleared to exercise again by Feb. by my doctor so I was right back on the bike. Re learning where my VT1/2 border was took some time. Last weekend I set a PB for my best 100km time(28.1kph avg). I’ve lost top end anaerobic ability but I can still diesel around. I’m 61 yo. Nature built in quite a bit of redundancy into us and losing some significant amount of my total lung capacity (about 25%) has slowed me down slightly but I’m still alive and kicking. 😊

It’s great to see this video right now as I’ve just had nose surgery to open up the airways in my nose, remove a tumour and straighten the septum. I didn’t realise how much it was preventing me breathing properly. I’m 50 years old and only been cycling the last 4 years and struggle to get +50k comfortably. I was t sleeping properly for the longest time because of it. Another two weeks and I’ll be back on the bike.
Can’t wait to test my new nose. 😂

Lots of folks don't understand why certain actions happen when they breath. Many folks pant and that's no good for CO2 exchange.
Another practice is to do yoga where you are taught to breath as deep as you can. This delays VT1 to VT2 transition.

Excellent content! I still have lots of room for improvement, but I've noticed the difference in my performance when focusing on breathing correctly.
    Thank you!

Lots of gnats down by the Riverside, all spring, most of the summer and some of the fall definitely do encourage nose breathing where I live. However, the ability to hold a conversation. I don’t find such a good gauge. I can trash talk people at race pace“why are you flicking your elbow at me, you’re not tired I’ll let you know when you’re tired. “

Please see John Douillard's book "Body, Mind, and Sport" he taught nasal breathing only, with Darth Vader exhales over 30 years ago in this book.
Nasal breathing supposedly boosts nitric oxide production also...

I do not have the skill, but someone please generate some Scottish Yoda content, it's what we all deserve in these trying times. Off to breathe through my nose now...

Remember those riders years ago in the Tour, they had tyres wrapped around their necks.
    They had breathing solved.
They inhaled cigarette and pipe tobacco to open up the lung aveoli to breathe better. Yesssss!!!
We today could take it further by inhaling a spliff to bypass leg pain.
    YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE
And then there's always alcohol but im Irish and we are allergic to that holy water
