The great power foward era! Garnett, Dirk, Gasol, Duncan, Rasheed, Jermaine, & Bosh. Just looking at all these guys they had such different roles on teams that played different styles, it's hard to compare.
Bosh came in pretty much at the end, you left out a big one in cwebb though. I remember those days the west had like 5 pfs in the all star game and the east had like 5 guards, good old days
jerrybronham wasn't even matched up the whole series clearly shown in this video. 1v1 KG is obv better. KG can stop Dirk clearly but kg and dirk weren't matched up in their careers to even say he scored all these points on a given night. Dirk can't stop KG cuz hes not a good defender. KG is obv better all dirk did in his career was dribble pull ups catch and shoot and the unstoppable fade away that's all he did ofc he rebound. All dirk is is a scorer takeaway his scoring he doesn't impact anything. KG is top 10 in rebounding, and number 17 on both the steals and block list. Dirk is only a scorer
jerrybronham dont call me no little boy u out of pocket with that shit u feeling urself too much. U wouldn't say that shit to my face cuz u would get rocked little boy dont call nobody lil boy cuz u acting like one. That's #1 #2 so all or most fouls came from fouling Dirk when dirk was left open most of the time? cuz the Timberwolves bad team defense. The defense obv collapsed every pnr play and left dirk wide open dirk was just a catch and shoot stretch big and when u stretch the floor out u leave urself and other people around u open its not like he worked for his points yes he outplayed KG statistically but he didn't work for his points it was basically given to him and with Dirks shooting prowess he was able to out score KG. Dirk obv had a better team that set him up easy points KG had to carry a franchise. KG is more complete therefore he is better
"People always ask me back home in Germany, "who is the toughest player to go against?" And I always say Kevin Garnett. He's just a nightmare to stop." - Dirk Nowitzki
01-04 was when Dallas was climbing to the level of being legitimate contenders. This time period where the Mavs had Nash, Nowitski and Finely was also right in the thick of the Shaq/Kobe and Duncan championship era. You also had Sacramento who were 1 infamously or disgracefully officiated game away from possibly going on to become champions as well. They beat Dallas in this same 02 playoff. Dallas could compete with those teams but they weren't quite ready to overtake them. Then again if Dirk didn't get hurt in that 03 WCF against the Spurs who knows what would have happened?
People saying KG can stop Dirk but Dirk can't stop KG...and they where never matched up....well if KG can stop Dirk but the coach doesn't let him defend him he is a shitty coach.... fact is no one can stop Dirk or KG....but Dirk always had much better numbers in the playoffs... in this series he scored 33ppg 15rpg 3spg 1.3bpg on 52%fg 72%from 3🤤 89% FT ...and by the way is the only player with 4 consecutive 30ppg 15rpg games in the playoffs next to Kareem... and still holds the record for true shooting in a single playoffgame with 93.9%...scoring 48 in that game vs. OKC... he holds that record by a margin of 12% (2nd VC 81% best regular season game Ray Allen 90%)... Dirk doesn't get enough respect... to me he is the best offensive PF ever... and his D isn't as bad as everyone makes it... I put him and Timmy on the same level...they share the no 1 spot on my list
2 of the top 5 PF of all time, good stuff right there man. If I had to list the top 5, I'd have Barkley at 5 just a little behind KG at 4, with Dirk solidly at 3, Malone at 2 and Duncan (begrudgingly) at 1 even though he was really a Center. You can make a case for Barkley over KG and IMO even Dirk over Malone due to playoff performance.
You have the same list as mine lol Personally I think Malone is a bit overrated due to his playoffs performance, his offense was insane during season but just not the same level in playoffs.
Didn't it seemed that the Western Conference had the best power forwards: Tim Duncan,Karl Malone,Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett, Chris Webber, Rasheed Wallace,Charles Barkley
Ya, Western Conference had the best PFs, however I might not put Rasheed in the comparison, he is just not at the same level as the others. Here is my opinion,Tier 1: Tim Duncan Tier 2: Karl Malone, Dirk NowitzkiTier 3: Kevin Garnett and Charles BarkleyTier 4: Chris Webber, Pau Gasol (depend on your choice of prime or longevity)
I feel Pau Gasol's playstyle makes him more lethal than chris webber. Gasol attacks like duncan, trying to get inside by any means necessary then just draw that foul. In comparison, kg is just too nice
Chris Webber prime is better, dude got a NBA 1st team and led the team to west conference finals and just barely lost to championship team with arguable calls. But I agree we could argue Pau is better due to longevity. KG relied too much on his fade-away jumpers.
Does everyone realize that Dirk clearly had the better team, from Nash, Van Exel, and Michael Finley. Not really fair to compare. Kg had to be the lone star his whole time with the Wolves smh
Dirk's offense alone impacts the game more than KG's offense and defense combined. It doesn't show in the stat sheet but you know it's true. Put KG in the 2011 Mavs roster instead of Dirk and they won't even come out of the West.
Malone's clutch was lacking. Could have beat Jordan's Bulls if he didn't choke at free throws and make costly turnovers. I would take Dirk over Malone any day.
I mean Dirk did have J. Kidd, and beat Lebron who is known for losing in the finals. Prime Kg never had any help. Unless you consider a 50 year old Cassell and 40 yr old Sprewell
We couldnt see KG 's Defense during this series. Many people meant KG could provide better team defense but Dirk was just playing as a shooter. Do you really understand if KG had correctly provided the things that his team needed? Otherwise, "all-round" skills " would be meaningless. And, you never understand why KG lost.
1. Tim Duncan 2. Karl Malone 3. Dirk Nowitzki 4. Giannis Antetokounmpo 5. Kevin Garnett 6. Charles Barkley 7. Chris Bosh 8. Kevin Mchale 9. Chris Webber 10 Pau Gasol
Overall I think Garnett is a better "skilled" player. Yes, Dirk "fundamentally" is better BUT!!!! It's a very very tuff match up between the two. Kevin got great footwork' Dirk gotta killer shot & so duz KG.🤷 both can put up numbers on the board but I think what it all boils down too "to me"🤔 is DEFENSE VS 3's (meaning) Nowitzki is a deadly shooter specializin in three's but Kevin is quicker moves around rebound wise blocking wise & his Defense overall is better than Dirks. & to me Defense wins Championships 🏆 so I mean!!.....🤷
How is Dirk even in the same realm as Kg, he’s 1 dimensional. Garnett does everything WAY better than Dirk except shoot 3s. His mid range is right on par with Dirk
Much respect to kg but dirk is in another league. Dirk has very little d but dirk literary changed the game. He's number 6 in all time scoring as a pf. 2011 the rest of the world witnessed.
Son Goku as in Duncan was better then KG but KG was better then Dirk, this one playoff series doesn't define it, as KG still outplayed Dirk in many games (regardless of the outcome), but it's close between KG and Dirk. Duncan to me is the best PF of all time
N8ve Jay notice how I said plus when speaking on the playoffs?? Duncan and Dirk were in constant wars their entire careers and making each other better because you're only as good as your greatest competition. Well even though KG was great competition he proved to be a tier 2 type of star who didn't consistently show up in big moments and had to rely on others to lead him over that hump. KG being the most athletic of the 3 was great on both ends of the floor and versatile but wasn't the greatest at each end. Duncan was far more consistent on defense and his strength against bigs is underrated. Dirk is probably the greatest offensive PF ever considering non could guard him. Some say Malone is better than KG and Dirk but since he didn't compete in the era of the PF throughout his prime you can't give him that especially with not having a title. That's why I rank the top 10 PF starting off with 1. Tim Duncan 2. Dirk Nowitzki 3. Kevin Garnett 4. Karl Malone 5. Charles Barkley 6. Kevin McHale 7. Elvin Hayes 8. Bob Pettit 9. Chris Bosh 10. Chris Webber
Dirk is a greater player than KG, despite all that defense thing, Dirk wasn't a good defender, although he wasn't as bad as people may think and as we see here, he gives it to prime KG and defensive stats are there as well. Dirk has 1210 steals and 1281 blocks which don't come from nowhere too.
lmao because a player that has Steve Nash as a PG who is adept at creating his shot...hitting 3s..FTs and a decent rebounder is better than a PF who played with scrubs and a hurt and old Cassell in his prime but scored, assisted, stole the ball.. blocked..rebounded at a high level and played elite defense..such logic 🤔🤔
@@JoshCConnor I was only referring to this game specifically, many have said that Dirks offense outweighs KGs offense and defense and versatility combined, I just dont see it, not sayin Dirk wasnt great though because he undoubtedly was

Amare stoudemire
Man, KG's elite defense sure helped him against Dirk in this series and in their career match-ups.
Oh wait. Lol it didn't.
Dirk was phenomenal in that series...Averaging 33/16 with 53% FG% was like crazy, dude was the best offensive PF in nba history, no doubt.

2 of the some of the best pf's in the league all time
What a league, consider 2000' has Duncan, KG, Dirk and Webber, what a decade!
as a mavs fan I still can't understand why we weren't able to go to the finals with Steve Nash
But it did have its advantage too. Steve Nash got his own MVPs and brought up the small ball trend while Dirk won his ring. Win-Win.
Deez Nutz That season alone Dirk got hurt in the WCF against San Antonio
They both ended up winning MVPs

Well said.
Many people considered Karl Malone the best offensive PF ever, but they ignored the much higher efficiency of Dirk comparing with Malone.
We should not compare them but enjoy two legends playing
Dirk best Pf of the 2000's not even close. Let's go mavs
Duncan exist, Dirk won 0 rings in that decade.
3 future MVPs in this game. That can't happen often.

Instead of who can or can't guard who. Ask yourself, which one of these men can carry a team in the playoffs?
