Impossible for me to hear this masterpiece and not cry my eyes out with how incredibly beautiful and melancholic it is. Definitely one of the greatest songs of all times!
@@javiervagabond9524 Love how you say- Everything Coming Up Roses is not just better but much much better then It's a wonderful life making it sound as it that song is shit! Not everyone just remembers-Wonderful Life or the ther one wouldn't of been a hit-also ECUR was only onUK radio the other day-where you from exactly?? Also the hit album it came off of sold millions so obviously millions of people would know the whole album! lol
Certainly one of the best songs of the 1980’s and god bless you Colin for your contribution to modern music and RIP my friend your legacy has already been written for eternity.
Correct. There's quite an irony in the lyrics as he sings "look at me standing, here on my own again" "its a wonderful, wonderful life" when these lines are actually sarcasm. Whilst writing the song he was going through a tough time as a musician, he was broke, failing marriage etc, hence the sarcastic lyrics. Great reaction to the song 👍. Please, please react to The Riddle by Nik Kershaw.
RIP Colin Vearncombe, one of the many great artists harvested by year 2016... Thanks for reacting to this, Dereck; though I'd have liked to hear your opinion about the music video, that imo perfectly goes along with the song.
Derek, great to see your reaction, you bring good memories and joy from my 80s. Colin’s music is eternal like his memory is! Thank you and keep discovering more treasures.
Hello by the way,my Nephew once said to me"Whenever i hear Bllack's Wonderful life,i think of you Aunt Hilde."So sweet of him! That's what i thought of when i watched the video for 5th or 6th time!Have a good Day today!
After all these years I always get a little bit teary-eyed when I listen to this masterpiece. But his song "Everything´s coming up roses" is also one of my favourite 80´s songs, I think it´s up your alley ...
At last, I've been looking for this amazing song on reaction videos for ages but no luck. I've even requested it many times. This song is timeless. So pleased you liked it too Dereck.
This made my day! One of my absolute favorite songs ever. Thank You for a great reaction! He wrote a lot of really good songs, like Sweetest Smile, I Can Laugh About It Now and many more.
Wonderful song recorded in 1987. Colin Vearncombe est décédé à l'âge de 53 ans , à la suite d'un accident de voiture. Les meilleurs partent toujours les premiers ! Il doit faire des duos avec Johnny , au Paradis des musiciens. I propose the slow , " Sweetest smile ", recorded in 1987 too. .
Although a melo song it was a summer hit in France. 1987. Black, Louis Armstrong, Terence Trent d'arby, Sting, Bob mcferrin... were hitting the charts alongside this song. A little throwback down the memory lane for me. Thank you derrick@.
yep one of the big signature 80's songs, and one of the silent ones... one of the few delicate ones... huge success throughout Europe... for whatever reason Tanita Tikaram's Twist In My Sobriety comes up in my mind as an 80's classic with an similiar maybe not vibe but approach on arrangement and mood.
I was immensely saddened by news of his death. The song and the video are truly sumptuous and I think can help to heal the soul. His voice and presence are amazing. The video and how he sings it has a calmness to it. Beautiful and timeless. I heard it a lot when I lived in France at the time of its release there.
I have seen this clip a thousand times back then, hehe. Watch "Twist In My Sobriety" by Tanita Tikaram, it was as big hit as this one, and a great song too, one of my favorite from this era.
It's a special song, no question. Funny thing: one time I saw a comment under the video for this song on YT and the person had typed or pasted the lyrics, but they included the phrase "Here I go, out to see again" instead of "out to sea again". Made me laugh. I drew attention to the boo-boo, LOL. Honestly, on the web quite a few people have posted this incorrect phrase as the first line of the song. I don't get it because it makes no sense at all. ((scratches head)) "Out to sea" is a real thing, meaning a vessel is heading away from land--- and is possibly a metaphor for a person mentally moving away from things to take a more objective look at one's life or life in general. I enjoy how the song starts out synthy and then a moment later there's this almost tropical vibe to the music in the bass and percussion.
used to have that album back in the day. so many good tracks. this song in particular is a masterpiece of melancholy that only the 80s could provide. RIP Colin. 🌹
I was livng in London at the time this was released, music and memories will stay with me. The Atlas Bar off Brompton road drinking with an ex Met Sarge was just brilliant..
Late 80s absolute classic hit. he has another hit mid 80s "Coming up roses". React to Tanita Tikaram's "Twist in my sobriety" - another late 80s classic hit. Similarily iconic sepia video clip.
It does have a very thoughtful and polished production to it. Great song. I don't know if I was influenced by the video, but even though the song could be called slightly melancholy, it always gave me a kind of summertime chill vibe.
Wonderful this song is, even his albums that released later are magnificent. You should listen to don't take the silence too hard it brought so much fun in this difficult times with covid and all the other stuff what's going on in the world. Greetings
This was my choice, I knew it would be a blast to listen to :D Sadly this wonderful singer passed away on 26th of January 2016 after he was involved in a traffic accident :`(
Tu me fais super rire.j adore ton personnage et ton concept.tu fais honneur à la france avec souvent nos artistes.merci beaucoup d utilisé les titres des meilleurs années.continu tu es une très bonne personne
Less popular, but equally gorgeous, is “This is Life.” I find Black’s music to be hit and miss, but when it’s a hit, it’s perfection. “This is Life”, “The Sweetest Smile” and “Too Many Times” are all excellent.
I remember recommending this a long while back. It's great and the video so cool too. The singer, Colin Vearncombe (Black) sadly died after a car accident a few years back. 'Red Light Spells Danger' by Billy Ocean is another to be checked out. Hot Chocolate's 'Every 1's A Winner' with it's great guitar riff and heavy bass is another.
About time somebody reacted to this masterpiece. ‘Everything is coming up roses’ and ‘The Big One’ next please. We need more reactions to music like this. Johnny hates Jazz- ‘Shattered Dreams’; Bruce Hornsby and the Range- ‘Mandolin Rain’ and ‘That’s just the way it is’; The Style Council- ‘You’re the best thing’
Reminds me of the late 80's. It always takes me back to my college years. Another song that does that is The Jesus & Mary Chain's "Head On". That's a song worth a reaction, as are several more songs by them. Great band. Highly influential. Not too well known outside of music geeks nowadays.
Impossible for me to hear this masterpiece and not cry my eyes out with how incredibly beautiful and melancholic it is. Definitely one of the greatest songs of all times!
RIP Colin. You will be remembered throughout the ages for this masterpiece.
One of the greatest songs of all time for me. "Everything Is Coming Up Roses" was another big hit by Black and also very good.
Good suggestion awesome song!
I think Everything Is Coming Up Roses is a much much better song than It's A Wonderful Life. Everyone remembers this one though.

Roses is good.
Paradise is my favorite
Colin was such an underrated artist. RIP, and thanks for the musical gifts.
Yes he was, soundtrack of my youth and his stuff is still on nearly all of my playlists. His voice is second only to Mark Hollis for me.
Don't tell me he's died
Soooo true 👍
@@markpalmer8083 Yes 2016 car accident in Ireland only 53 great hit from the 80s
This was one of those songs that were the soundtrack to the 1980’s. Absolute perfection!
I'm transported back to my youth when I hear the opening notes of this song.....it will tug at my heart till the day I die
One of my 80s favourite songs, very beautiful and nostalgic, reminding me of my youth in the 80s, how fast time goes.
Exactly. And very sadly, far too fast.
Certainly one of the best songs of the 1980’s and god bless you Colin for your contribution to modern music and RIP my friend your legacy has already been written for eternity.
Colin had such a smooth voice and was taken from us far far too soon … I love his voice and he’s just amazing !!!
OMG I can't believe you are doing this. I had this album and played it to death.
Colin, you were wonderful.
Sadly, sadly missed :(
Were?
@@markpalmer8083 Sorry, how do you mean? He died, tragically, a few years back in 2016 aged 53 following a fatal car crash. Deeply missed.
Great reaction to the song 👍. the bit where he says " i need a friend, oh I need a friend" hits home after covid isolation. Simultaneously optimistic and melancholic. Its timeless.
The harder the circumstances, the more beautiful the music
Black - Everything Is Coming Up Roses
the whole lp was great.....
When I discovered Black in the 80s, I felt like I stumbled upon a great secret! Loved his voice. R.I.P.
RIP Colin Vearncombe, one of the many great artists harvested by year 2016... Thanks for reacting to this, Dereck; though I'd have liked to hear your opinion about the music video, that imo perfectly goes along with the song.
One of the all-time great pop songs.
This song reminds me to the early 90's, Turkish tv; they play this song between the commercial and when the main programs starts again.
As most of them very sadly do
Derek, great to see your reaction, you bring good memories and joy from my 80s. Colin’s music is eternal like his memory is! Thank you and keep discovering more treasures.

A really great song. 👌🏻👌🏻

I love 1986
Love this song, but I love “Sweetest Smile” even more. 😊
We don’t have time machines to travel back in time…we have music.
Tragically the lead singer of Black was put in a medically induced coma after being involved in a serious car accident in Ireland. He later died.

La chanson de la pub Fleury-Michon dans les années 80 nan (je me rappelle plus trop) ?!? J'adore ❤️, de bons souvenirs 😁
Oh this album was my life for a while ...
So NoDoubt, you did sang "It’s my life" in place of Bon Jovi 😉
I have always loved this song from way back then, Ace Of Base did a pretty good version in the 2000's but Black's version can never be beaten!!!
