    Tesla sell you a car with ready to use infrastructure. The rest just sell you a car. And then some of them starts to build the infrastructure (with EU funding).

    • @RandyTWester
      @RandyTWester 3 года назад +5

      Tesla understands the value of a standardized installation that can be predictably installed, plus zero hassle charging.
      If you charge your Tesla car with an expired payment card on your account, the car charges FIRST, and THEN they ask politely. Service like that is why the Circle K chargers are empty.

    • @nordlands8798
      @nordlands8798 3 года назад +4

      @@RandyTWester Tesla can do that because they are sure they can get you, in the final instance by not only stopping you from charging at superchargers, but all fast chargers, until you answer their "polite" request of paying. No other car manufacturers are basically bricking their customers car if they think you have done something "unauthorized".
      There are two much more important reasons people are choosing Mer over Circle K chargers that Bjørn did not mention: While "everyone" have an account to charge with Mer, Circle K only built a lot of chargers in the last 1-2 years so many people have not set up an account with them yet. Secondly many people probably think it is cheaper with Mer as that was true until recently.

      @@boostav It literally said on the charger at 12:09 in the video that you can just scan QR code and pay with credit card, no account needed. People are used to having to set up an account though, and in the long run unless you do not want to share your email, the easiest is to register and use the same RFID as for other chargers. At least until every charger is taking credit cards, which will not be any time soon unfortunately.

    We were at Brokelandsheia last Monday first day of Ferie around 14:20 testing the App. On the Tesla Supercharger side there was a queue of about 7 EVs lined up on that empty parking lot behind the Hotel and there were about 7 Tesla stalls free (most of them are V3 so no problem). The Eurospar had queues out the door and there must've been around 700 people inside. It really depends on the day and time, but I guess the 7 EVs waiting were not very happy they choose another EV that day.

    • @Auraxium

    It's actually totally unaxeptable that the charging stations don't take credit cards so you HAVE to use stupid cumbersome apps or rfid and give away your contact info to lots of companies so they can spam you :( Very nice that they have the feature, if you for example want to check charging stats on your phone, or want to review usage over time and stuff, but it is for people with special interests :) It's good to hear that you also are thinking of this problem and are bringing it up! :D

    I enjoyed the video, the info (“I used to pee here!”), and the message that 1) there need to be more chargers, and 2) using the chargers needs to be as simple as filling with gas.
    I love my Tesla Model 3 SR+, certainly not the least of reasons being the charging network. That was a great “discovery” of mine as I researched EVs. And even simpler in use! I did finally use a Charge Point charger at a hotel in Carlsbad (LEGOLAND). I already had the app, and do that was fairly simple, though it had many more steps than using a Super Charger. The big advantage at the hotel was it was FREE! Woo hoo! They had six (I think) chargers, and during the day while the park was open, all the stalls were filled, but at night I had no problem plugging in over night.
    Great video, Bjorn!

    We have this thing called "EZ Pass" for toll roads and parking. A small RFID box mounted to windshield or on the front number plate. Gov't should allow public utilities to use a standard like this and build public chargers with the usual nominal and "peak" markups like Tesla does. No app, no credit card required. Just register the car once and use any charger. Rent seeking third party chargers aren't a solution, just another layer of things that add complexity and middlemen. Super interesting content. As you know, EU has set the ban in 2035, which is also very close. Why cannot we just plug and charge? I mean, it would be great if each car had an ID during the handshake...

    Question: Does tesla take supercharger utilization into account for route planing? For example, when two SC are near, using the one with more available stalls? (same question for v2 VS v3)

    the number of fast chargers that are not for Tesla is far too few. In the end, when all cars become electric, there will be more cars that are not Tesla. So each charging station should have more chargers than Tesla has, to cover the future need. So there is a great need for expansion.

    no need to have some politician to speed up the charging infra. Tesla will be public to all or most ev’s within the next 12 to 18 months. That will give a boost of thousands of extra stalls in Europe. If you look at the Netherlands (my country) they are building a ridiculous amount of v3 Tesla supercharger for such a small country. I was traveling last month to Italy and in Germany I can almost travel on v3 chargers alone. All brand new.

      Maybe yes (and I hope so) that all CCS cars can go to the Tesla network. But I assume that we must buy a special card for charging at Tesla or pay a high price /kwh. (Tesla chargers are the cheapest, but buy buying a tesla you'll also invest in this network. A tesla is higher priced than VW, Hyundai for example. (Ionity asks 0,79 euro/kwh (when using their app).
      Maybe it will also force ionity to lower prices.

      @@Simon-dm8zv besides the news article it is common sense. When you see the amount of v3 supercharger that are added in Netherlands alone. It is overpopulated with Tesla chargers. Also the Fiat group will stop buying the co2 rights from Tesla. A 1.5 billion deal that will be gone in 1 or 2 years. They need to make money quickly and that is why they expanding with V3 chargers worldwide. Every week there are between 1 and 4 new locations opening. Check google maps and lookup Tesla v3 super chargers. Look at the amount they have placed within a year. Lots of new stalls and way more then they need. Just one opened north of München. I believe 30 new V3 stalls. 1.5 km from an other 6 or 8 V2 stalls.
      Believe me they are expanding to open up to new customers.
