I lived in Naples, Florida for 20 years, and lived through at least 10 hurricanes. But the most devastating hurricane was "Irma". That was the last drop in the glass, when I nearly got nervous breakdown, and almost lost everything I had. This is heart breaking, I feel sorry for those still live there. During Irma, I was on my knees, bagging for mercy! And I promised to myself "if I live through this, I'll leave for ever, and never go back to Florida"! Glad I did! Those who suffer now, stay strong and use common sense. This will happen every year. My prayer goes out to all, love from Hungary.

I recognize this neighborhood. I used to live here. I used to ride by bike and cross that busy airport road intersection. Wow it’s flooded. I never experienced flood in Florida when I grew up there.

It was good at least in this area of town, the water wasn't high enough that people drowned, like in Katrina. Unfortunately, in some areas the water did get very high.
If I had to evacuate today, I wouldn't be able to - I don't have enough money to fill the tank of my truck today. So, I understand why a whole family may not be able to evacuate or get anyone to help evacuate them all together. There should be a ton more help from the state for evacuating people!!

With Irma, they got lucky--Even though the surge flooded the neighboring Lely resort homes, it never flooded their tiny subdivision's homes (just crept up the driveways). I'm not so sure about it this time around, and I haven't heard anything since the last update around 4 or 5 pm...
I have a friend who lives in lely, which us about 2 miles from that intersection. Have been trying to reach her since last night. No response. Sounds bad.
That couple had their priorities in order: Rifle case and the pup. Sucks to see fellow Floridians stuck in this, but the silver lining is that they made it out alive.
