Another great Saturday morning video release! Thanks for creating this content and sharing your knowledge, insight, and experience with us. I love my single turbo ls1 camaro ss for the same reasons you document here. I've had a custom-ground (streetable) cam kit for it for 3 years that I've been reluctant to install because it runs so darn good just the way it is (494 hp/546 tq on a mustang dyno). Still get 24 mpg on the highway in 6th gear...just can't shake a stick at it. Thanks again and have a great weekend!
Appreciate the kind words Sir - thanks for that! Turbo LS Camaro sounds fun too!. I hope to add another F-body at some point - if it works out. Have a great weekend as well!!
Would love to do this to my '01 C5, but these kits run $6K or more before taxes, install, and shipping. That's just to big a nut for most of us. But this was a great video, thx.
Agreed it's expensive, but for someone who has a long-term plan, they might want to save up and go this route rather than getting pregnant with a cam, then needing heads, then needing headers, then needing a tune, ending up spending the same amount with less performance. but I understand 100% what you mean, I couldn't have done this the first half of my life.
Just piling on here, because I considered this for my C5 before going C6. My advisor on the matter explained, the supercharger adds air, and you also need to match that with fuel. This means you have to change your tune, your fuel injectors, possibly your fuel pump, to get the matching increase in fuel. If you starve a motor for the fuel it wants, if will run lean and melt down. Newer Corvettes have aluminum block and heads. Think - LOW melting temperature. So you better get it right, oh, and you are not going into your local Autozone and saying, "can I have a set of injectors for a Procharger installation at 8 pounds of boost". You are on your own. My guy even said there are people out there taking factory injectors and poking holes in them to make them flow more fuel. Do you want to trust your engine to that? You are also on your own for repairs, or replacing your engine. Your transmission is probably ok, but your clutch will burn up. Your rear axles could suffer. There are tons of risks with the modification. For some people it is worth it. For me, I had a like new Collectors edition Z06, and knew it would trade up well, so I went to GM for more power. Fast forward 12 years to Pandemic Pricing, and it could just be a bargain to get a high mileage car cheap and beat the crap out of it, vs paying the crack pipe prices people want today. Thanks.
That's a lot of commentary, let me just say that the fuel injectors and the fuel pump requirements are typically met with the kit contents provided by A&A and I believe ecs's kits as well. Anytime you add a couple hundred horsepower there is for sure more risk - no doubt about it. Pistons have been aluminum for decades, and the liners are steel so the meltdown situation isn't any worse than older engines in my humble opinion. If in doubt, leave it stock I guess is probably good advice.
Aloha, sir, this is going to be the last thing I will do to my Vette. You again helped make up my mind. I like to fact that it all it's under the hood. VORTEC I will look them up and start planning. Thank you
I just bought a 2001 C5Z06, less than 65k miles on the odometer. I've been looking at mods and this really looks like the way to go. I need to swap out the harmonic balancer for sure this fall so... I guess while i'm in there this could happen.
Awesome video. My '99 Trans Am will hopefully get a full rebuild with forged internals and a Procharger kit. The current LS1 in there has 160k on the odometer.
That would be fun, I had a 99 trans am for 5 years and loved it. Kind of wish I didn't sell it. Those things are really holding their value and actually going up. Amazing!
I really wish that magnuson kit was still available. From what’s out there now, A&A looks like the best, most thought out kit available today, but I just wanted a roots style, bolt on kit. I don’t want to deal with fitting a C6 kit or LSA blower to it and piece it all together myself. I MAY look at ecs, as they’re sorta close to me though.
I'm beginning to think a c5 z06 might be better than the c6 z06 thanks to this video. I like the look of the c5 better and the c6 z06 still seem expensive.
This video didn't help convince me to do it, but it's helping remind me why I had 1/2 a dozen emails back and forth with Doug and Chris at ECS yesterday. My forged internal 99 coupe is going under the knife for boost in 4 to 6 weeks.
Forged internal LS in a C5 is begging you to do it - glad you are getting it done- you will need to schedule a Grin-Ectomy with you doc shortly after.... Have fun!
@@Toys4Life Ha! I've been enjoying this particular c5 for 20+ years. Had two others but flipped them. I bought this one new when my wife and I were mid twenties and dating in Los Angeles. It's been built and modified a few different ways over the years. Moved across the country and tracked bi-coastally. The last 10 years it's had forged internals with the exception of the crank. It's been spot on reliable and fun revving at 7000 rpms. Runs high 11s in the 1320 when it has 4.10s. But it's time to put boost through it, so I can enjoy it more. Otherwise I'll spend a ton of cash to buy a C7 Z06. The Mrs. agrees with boosting the C5.
Super chargers are cool, I had a Procharger before I went with twins. The Procharger with a stock engine and tune made 500rwhp. I’m now in the 730s. The engine is not stock anymore though. I like being sneaky also. Lol
Your right there , but I did 799 heads & 614 lift cam new valve springs & dynatech headers on a LS 1 still need a fast 92 mm intake it’s to late for me to go back I’m good with my mods now
No worries, still an awesome setup you have for sure. Next car, mix it up and try something a bit different. Part of me would like to spend a day with a massive cam M6 corvette with 4:11 gears. That would be a different experience from what I am used to. Cheers!!
Imagine this: Doing the heads, cams, pistons, exhaust and valve springs and getting the car the 420hp. Then supercharging it. The starting HP is an important number as well. However, this argument is not for a easy one time street-able mod. Great video man!
Thanks man - but I can't. My track will kick me out if I go over 135mph or quicker than 11.50 without a rollbar (they follow NHRA rules. I don't really want to add one when the C5 is at the track .02% of the time....
My Vette had 78k on it and I am trying to decided weather or not to Supercharge or do heads and cam. I will be doing a clutch either way. I have LT headers and full exhaust and a pinned crank and upgraded harmonic balancer already.

Too much tastiness on the screen for a hungry petrolhead from Russia like me :DDD Also I do enjoy this vibe of smaller youtube channels sitting in ur own small garage and discussing something is priceless. Thank you, that was very informative, I think no one else brought up the possible issues of lets say aftermarket headers. Also, how much weight does the kit add? Turbos are quite heavy, what about centrifugal chargers?
Appreciate the kind words! The kit adds about 70lbs up front. Some say it throws off the balance of the car but the Z06 actually is further off from 50/50 than the coupe and Vortech supercharged coupe due to its light titanium mufflers behind the rear drive wheels. хорошего дня!
@@Toys4Life oh thank you :D as far as I got it, a turbo kit must be around 100 lbs. We have a guy in Russia who made a twincharged Celica GT-Four (Turbo+Rotrex centrifugal). He claims that some models of this producer may be more efficient than turbo's, cuz no "hot part" is generating heat under the hood, while same RPMs can be reached. But they do use planetary gears... Speaking of the weight distribution, the drifting guys pretty much everywhere murmur: "Silvia is perfect". but the s-chassis had distrbutions like 52-54% on the front. Same for very capable track weapons like Camaro z/28, 1le, zl1 1le, they also do have between 51-53% if I remember it right. The drifters do say that strict 50/50 feels like not the best during the transitions from side to side. The front appears to be less grabby. One of the world's top drifters James Deane switched from 50/50 to 53/47 deliberately, after he started testing his freshly built BMW e92. Seems like a logical explanation for the front engine cars. Sorry if the longread bothered you and also have a good day!
Yes supercharging is definitely the way to go. Getting mine done this summer. And it's all your fault lol. Watched your how to install series about 5 times. What tires are you running?
Sorry about that! (not really). Good luck with the install!! Tires I am running Firestone Indy 500 in stock size in the back. They do pretty well but I might try to see if I can get something stickier soon. I need to research that.

Over here (Sweden) it is impossible to get a car through the inspection with a super charger on it, unless it was a super charged car to begin with (from the factory). What to do?
Hey question, do you ever feel that the supercharged c5 or c6 kills the fun too fast before seriously breaking the law? Does it take away from the "rolling through the gears experience?"
Valid question. A guy could build a cammed setup and swap in .390 gears and get the through the gears experience - and that would be pretty quick as well!
Hi I own a stock C5 here in Florida where the temperature never gets anywhere close to 25 degrees. I see the price for the A&A supercharger on their website. And I know what my mechanic charges per hour. How many hours of labor do you suppose it would take an experienced mechanic to install one of these and dial it in? My resistance to supercharging has been the impression (based on superstition alone) that the Corvette will constantly need to return to the mechanic for various issues. Is that a fair understanding of what might be in store for me? Or is the collective experience one of Set And Forget ?
I was under the impression it does effect fuel eco? as it’s constantly running from the belt and it is also pushing more air into the engine would that not make MPG worse?
I have a 99 Corvette and oh boy do I want a A&A kit but it's just out of my budget for the time being. I've thought about doing some smaller things to my Corvette that I could do now to get it ready and get more horsepower now and after a supercharger. Is there anything else you'd suggest besides 243 headers, ls6 intake, and a mild cam for a 97-99 Corvette?
If you know you're going to do the A&A kit in the next few years, I would just save towards that. If it's going to be longer than that and you just can't wait, 3:42 rear end gears wake the C5 up big time if you've got an automatic trans. For manual cars, I would probably do Mild Cam and a tune.
What about a comparison of supercharged vs. turbocharged. I have a bone stock turbo'd Hyundai Genesis (in addition to my '04 'vert) with a 2 liter motor (122 cid) that puts out 274 hp and 275ftlbs. It has CVVT, so that muddies the issue a bit, but is the extra mechanical complexity of the supercharger worth more than the "free" extra power and torque from a properly set up turbo'd car?
I'm not a big fan of the heat generated by a turbo C5 especially with the tight engine bay. That is strictly my opinion. If it was a vehicle with a much larger engine bay, I might be convinced to go turbo which are definitely more efficient.
@@viperracing2889 yeah, it's expensive but if you plan on keeping the vehicle for 10 years and you want a massive power increase with little drivability, it really is not that bad of a deal over the long term. If you know the type of person that needs a different vehicle every three or four years, you'd go broke.
@@Toys4Life I bought a C5 yesterday (my first). It doesn't have massice power bit already have intake, chip and catback. Not sure how much extra power that might make. +40 hp maybe?
One nice item I do not remember you mentioning-the kit does not require a new hood to fit the kit. That would be a nuisance looking over a hump along with cost, fit, and paint.
C5 like a c5 z06 will handle 600 flywheel horsepower? Who do you like for superchargers? You mentioned valve springs... anything else you think would be a good upgrade for 600 hp like bigger radiator or clutch or performance heads/lifters/valve train?
I have a 2000 C5 targa top automatic. Would a Vortec supercharger add-on be too much to the auto trans? Btw, hands down T4L the best source for Vette info on RUclips. Thanks
I would discuss with either A&A or ECS and see what they say as far as how much power they see a transmission of your condition taking. If it has some miles on it, I would probably consider a performance rebuild just to sleep easy. Also the vortech is adjustable (somewhat) but using larger or smaller pulleys. Both of those companies are easy to reach and will have very good advice for your situation.
Personally, I really don't want too much more on the stock bottom end. Plus the transmission and torque to become much less reliable the more you get over 550 rear wheel horsepower IMO.
I think the EPA banned modding your vehicle. I dunno if it's still happening . But I heard Hella RUclips channels talking about how the EPA stated you can't change the vehicle you got from the manufacturer.
I want to go with this super charger..but is there a good mechanic shop in Mississippi in the Pascagoula area that I could trust with the work that needs to be done?
I have had excellent luck for 2.5 years with the Vortech V3si setup from A&A Corvette. I hear ECS is good as well but I do not have any direct experience with them. I would avoid the Maggie as it comes on with torque so quickly that it can be hard to control. The Vortech and Procharger have the power come on much more gradual and thus easier to control and ultimately have more HP up top (5500-6500 rpms).
a buddy of mine has been talking me into getting a a&a supercharger he's done some research and is planning on putting one on his C5Z according to him if you do supporting mods lifters, rods, and a nice crankshaft you should add about 200 to 250 to a otherwise stock C5. so 350+200(at the lest) gives you a 550 HP C% corvette
My 03 is a Z06. How does the LS6 respond to the same super charger? The red line is already 6500. I’m not sure if my valve springs are the updated ones or if they have been replaced already. Thanks!
I think it's fine, although I haven't really studied on the differences and how much they would be. I would call A&A and ask them the question specifically, they would be able to tell you pretty accurate summary. From what I know, it's still absolutely worth doing!
Funny. I have a "few" haters telling me the SBE 5.7 LS1 can easily take 650RWHP and I am a sissy suggesting you limit it to 550 RWHP. Then I have guys telling me it wont last at much more than just headers. I guess we all have an opinion....
You can if you want to go to the 600RWHP+ level. Just know traction on the street gets much harder to come by, transmissions and read diffs don't last as long and stock LS1 don't have forged pistons so the higher the HP you go, the increasingly greater risk of a serious problem....
@@Sir.VicsMasher I have an LS1 with forged internals and Novi 1500 all in $18k and making 634rwhp and 568rwtq. It was making 428rwhp/398rwtq on forged bottom end H/C/I for $8k. So whomever you know that spent $15k for 434 rwhp didn't go to the right shop or doesn't know what they are doing.
I do not. I would go to "Corvetteforum.com" in their forced induction section and search for "best supercharger kit". There should be a bunch of info to answer most questions about supercharging the LT4 C4. !
So is this less hastle and cheaper than turbo? as i recall it, you will still need an aftermarket ECU for a supercharged setup for mapping g the extra fuel/boost ect
Hi, what should you be looking at cost wise for the complete kit, additional parts as you mentioned, install and tune? Being in the UK prices can go through the roof and so I'd be interested in knowing what the total cost would be in the US. Thank you.
No forged bottom end recommendations?? I dunno man, I played with lt1/ls1’s for over ten years and it’s only a matter of time before something happens. Ls1’s are approaching almost 25 years of age, so it’s a tough proposition regardless of miles. A nice c5 with low miles is $15-$20k, and these kits installed are $10k. Or exactly what a C6 z06 costs, which traps 125mph stock. I know which direction I would go and still have oem reliability and resale.

Have Magnacharger on my 02 ZO6 with 5 lbs. of boost. Went from 335 rwhp to 493 rwhp. Runs like a top, smooth as glass. Only issue is staying hooked up in 1st & 2nd gear.
Yeah, the magna's bring the torque on in a BIG way down low. That torque could be used on a C8 (engine over drive tires) but as you mentioned - difficult to hook on the street.
I am considering adding a C5 to the herd. You mentioned a Vortech system - I believe. Is that what you used? Do you mind sharing where you got your add ons and what it cost you to do everything soup to nuts?
I did my install and tuning so that is moot. I recently saw an advertisement on Corvette Forum from a company for $5600 for the kit and $1300 for the install and a Tune. That seems fair to me.
Hmmm. How about heads cams intake and a supercharger haha, I don't even own a vette. I would love a 04 z06 tho those things are like go carts. Super low super light
Very tempting, but would you super charge a C5 with 90k miles on it? My car runs great, but I would be worried about dropping that kinda cash and labor.
I would say get whatever you want automatic or manual. The stock clutch though is marginal and if you drive it hard and want to get the most out of it you're probably going to need a new one in within a year.
I would not do long road courses with this unless the short block was redone with wider ring gaps and yes- for road course you really have to take a hard look at every systems heat management. Brakes, diff, trans, engine!
I have heard they do pretty well but I would suggest talking to either A&A or ECS about what they suggest. Both companies are small enough to be reachable to discuss you needs and setup. I have a manual and a new clutch was suggested and completed.
@@codeman-xm5yb I've got an auto c5 as well and I'm always thinking this as I've heard tons of people have the auto c5 supercharged with no problems and loads that have had the csr blow up. It all depends on how you drive it I suppose but you don't want to fork out for a kit then have to have a new gearbox rebuilt few months later
I am eyeing a C5 for $10k at a dealership but the front bumper has a large area where the paint came off. Just painting the bumper will be $500-$700. 😢
It's not set up for drag racing, so the ET is with street tires. I have to feather it off the line. 11:50 @ 130 mph. Also, if I go under 11:50, my truck will kick me out without a roll bar, or is it cage, I'm not sure but I don't want to do it as this thing's on the street 99.5% of the time.
IMO.....yes, that having been said, typically the further away from home I am, the easier I take it on the car.... But that's just respecting Murphy's law.
This is all good info but why don’t these videos ever get a gas mileage section I wanna know how much it changes from the stock 19mpg some of us struggling here with money but still trying to have fun as often as possible instead of driving my c5 only on the weekends sounds like I lost my balls doin that
Valid point sir. If you drive it like your typical 5th grade math teacher, it will get just about stock mileage. If you drive it like a 19-year-old young man, it will probably get about half of what you normally get. Horsepower consumes fuel. If you use a ton of horsepower all the time, you use a lot of fuel.
Centrifugal types can big power, over 1k whp easily but then again it depends if your setup can support it. The highest TVS2300 I seen was with alot of mods and methanol was barely a little over 1k whp. Most seem to be in the 600 - 800 whp mark... If you want alot of "noise" you can put a cog drive on the Magnuson rear. That's one of the fun things about them :) They also look cool under the hood oh and you also need a hood to clear them where else the Centri can go under the stock hood. Hope that helps!
@@02hreblue30 Idk if you know, but the Magnusons have a bypass valve that gradually opens and can be adjusted with an orifice for how much bottom end "hit" you want ;) So it's not a all at once hit. The tune can be made to do this as well :) Save some tires, clutch, etc. lol

I understand your argument about headers....But if you're gonna supercharge it, you want to have headers to let that LS breathe. Not to mention the power difference.
Make no mistake, headers would add horsepower, but if you saw my header video, real world testing shows it's not nearly as much as one would think due to the efficiency of the LS stock exhaust manifolds. Depending on where you come down on the keep the cat versus ditch the cat argument, if you keep them that really hampers their effectiveness to scavenge due to the back pressure and pulses being somewhat muted. Now if I did an off-road only header setup, no cats, and 3-in piping all the way back, that might make a large difference! I did extensive back pressure testing as well, check out the videos, and the two and a half inch exhaust does have quite a bit of back pressure above 4,000 RPM.
What about needed modifications to the clutch and rear tires? And the tendency superchargers have to raise running temps. Appreciate the video, definitely cool; I think for me personally I'd rather just get a bigger cube LS and not add weight and heat with a supercharger. Granted a big 454CID+ aftermarket motor will cost more than a blower but I think I'll save my $$. Thanks again for the video!
Clutch upgrade is a must, luckily mine was a decade old anyways - so I wasn't really tossing a new clutch out. I honestly see no increase in running temp what-so-ever during the summer on the street. A 1/4 mile pass is too short to raise things. Road course racing would take a lot of cooling upgrades and further engine mods for sure.
Question is, how much horsepower do you want for the street. And at the track, how much horsepower can it take before you need to totally beef up the transmission and torque tube?

Sweet! Is it in process or is it on the road?
I just bought a 2001 C5Z06, less than 65k miles on the odometer. I've been looking at mods and this really looks like the way to go. I need to swap out the harmonic balancer for sure this fall so... I guess while i'm in there this could happen.
I vote yes!
Great video. I'm new to superchargers, what are the cons for adding one? Is gas mileage worse? Is there extra maintenance? Anything else? Thanks!

Mine had 80k +/- when I supercharged it. It now has a little over 100k on it has been problem free - as are many.
I was under the impression it does effect fuel eco? as it’s constantly running from the belt and it is also pushing more air into the engine would that not make MPG worse?
At part throttle, the high engine vacuum holds the blow off valve open - and that simply vents all the pressure. Minimal MPG loss on the freeway.
@@Toys4Life ahh I understand. thank you, that helps me understand :)
@@Toys4Life I had a friend who owned a turbo-4 fox-body mustang back in the 80s. He said it glowed when he opened the hood at night.

Clutch - for the M6 for sure!
May be a stupid question but why not do h/c/i with a supercharger if u want hp gain ?
Personally, I really don't want too much more on the stock bottom end. Plus the transmission and torque to become much less reliable the more you get over 550 rear wheel horsepower IMO.
I think the EPA banned modding your vehicle. I dunno if it's still happening . But I heard Hella RUclips channels talking about how the EPA stated you can't change the vehicle you got from the manufacturer.
SEMA - we need you to get organized, get the info out in a big way and make sure this hobby doesn't die!
I want to go with this super charger..but is there a good mechanic shop in Mississippi in the Pascagoula area that I could trust with the work that needs to be done?
I would call A&A and ask - they do have approved shops around the U.S. I believe..
I'm in, which would you recommend?
@@0Heeroyuy01 If you do a new crank, rods and forged pistons along with Meth/or E85 you can go 700 Crank HP or more..

I think it's fine, although I haven't really studied on the differences and how much they would be. I would call A&A and ask them the question specifically, they would be able to tell you pretty accurate summary. From what I know, it's still absolutely worth doing!
What about heads, cam, intake, headers etc and then supercharger??? 😉
💣🔥 LS1 is the least boost friendly of all the LS' ever built and the reason why there's people making 434whp with $15k investment.
Do like the video but just by chance if you know what would you recommend for a C4 LT4...

So is this less hastle and cheaper than turbo? as i recall it, you will still need an aftermarket ECU for a supercharged setup for mapping g the extra fuel/boost ect

Very tempting, but would you super charge a C5 with 90k miles on it? My car runs great, but I would be worried about dropping that kinda cash and labor.
If it has good oil pressure and compression I wouldn't hesitate for a second. If it is a manual, I would do the clutch upgrade at the same time.
@@Toys4Life so automatics are better for supercharging? Also can i go cams and supercharge
I would say get whatever you want automatic or manual. The stock clutch though is marginal and if you drive it hard and want to get the most out of it you're probably going to need a new one in within a year.
Nothing said about supercharging causing overheating during extended track sessions. I’ve heard air/water inter coolers are better for this.

@@Toys4Life yes
Centrifugal types can big power, over 1k whp easily but then again it depends if your setup can support it. The highest TVS2300 I seen was with alot of mods and methanol was barely a little over 1k whp. Most seem to be in the 600 - 800 whp mark... If you want alot of "noise" you can put a cog drive on the Magnuson rear. What kind of a drivetrain do you have in there, a powerglide or a tr660? That's a lot of power man.

Shit! Now I really really want one lol. Great video thanks!
Thanks BF!
yes
Sweet!
sweet as hell fine sir! hate to say i missed out on a good deal a few years back on a procharged c5 low miles good price, it still hurts a lil
OR, you could just go FBO then supercharger, and maximize your power gains
Maybe I've had too many beers this afternoon. FBO equals?
@@Toys4Life full bolt on
Question is, how much horsepower do you want for the street. And at the track, how much horsepower can it take before you need to totally beef up the transmission and torque tube?
@@Toys4Life you would know better than I, I've always been a ford guy I'm just talking shit 😂
@@ImNathen lol!
For sure but my cash flow is to low
This is absolutely one mod you save up for - but IMO very wort it vs the long route of headers, came, intake, heads, tune1, tune2, tune......
I have a 2003 corvette that I almost sold. I was going to go for a used ZL1 or a new SS camaro but I was just not able to pull the trigger and sell. I really can’t keep 2 toys in the house.
Keep the C5!
Love your videos !
Glad you like them! I appreciate you taking the time to comment!!
Car go fast!
Every WWII fighter airplane had a supercharger. It was mandatory.
High grade fuel, lots of compressed air in burns the fuel = horse power
Those rules were written long ago.
I didn't know that. Thanks!
@@Toys4Life Get the book “the secret horse power race” by Calum Douglas. All about fighter aircraft piston engines and the quest for HP from 1928 - 1948.
I am reading it now. This is a must read for all HP enthusiasts.
Supercharge ls3 c6 is the way to go
No doubt - but add 10K for similar C6 LS3 car with similar miles. For street use 0 to 99 IMO, around 550whp is good enough. I don't believe in exceeding 99 on public roads.... Risk/Reward is not good IMO...
No... thank you.... for uploading
4 Sure!
Nice video
Thank you, I appreciate it!
You didn't need to tell me twice that Superchargers are awesome.
