I'm an old bugger at 83 (Aussie of course) and I (just like you) get blown away with this performance every time I watch a reaction and now that is on the way to 100. Just a little trivia, that's her dad Bill shredding it on lap/steel on the left and the other thing, the keyboard player leaves nothing on the table. Thanks for the great reaction (minimal pauses) and all the best to you and yours....

Thank you for reacting to this amazing cover! I find it so interesting to watch reactors comment on Kasey's cover. Like you, most reactors can become speechless...searching for the right words to describe what they have just heard. Enjoyed your reaction!

What an extraordinary work of art this is. From Em's lyrics, the amazing band, Kasey's heart felt delivery and the fan phone footage!! Eminem made this song iconic, but Kasey made it epic!!

Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, and during Covid lockdown she reworked Eminem's rap song into her own song. The difference between the original and her version are worlds apart; due to this, she was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right.

This is quite an impactful introduction to an Australian artist. There is so much more to the Australian music scene. Some artists l think you might enjoy, and they are of international standard. One such artist is John Farnham, English born Australian singer; his version of The Beatles classic song Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, this is a 1989 concert; he originally performed his version on a Royal Variety Performance in front of Queen Elizabeth in 1980 and John Lennon upon hearing it, was supposedly heard to say that "This is how the song was meant to be sung ".

Other Australian artists to check out are:- Jimmy Barnes, Olivia Newton John, Tina Arena, Little River Band, AC/DC, The Seekers, and the list goes on.

It went from indie/folk/bluegrass to rock. Kasey's version hits you differently

  • @jayweb51

You need to check out one of Kasey's songs. The one l recommend you react to is Ain't No Little Girl. Kaseysaid this is the first of her songs that "wrote her", and refers to it as "The glue of her life". Kasey Chambers is an accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter, but has no problem crossing genres; her 2001number one hit song Not Pretty Enough was written as a commentary on the reluctance of mainstream radio stations towards not playing her music.

  • @jayweb51

To me, Eminem's rap approach is more reactive, while Kasey's version is more emotive. This is a country/rock ballad mixing country with blues and rock.

You say it is suprising how much emotion Kasey gets into the song when it is effectively his story. If you compare the words to Kaseys own life, it is her story too. She has been booed off stage, she has had to keep fighting and writing. And she definitely has paid the pied piper in her time.
    Good reaction though, thanks

    Suggestion? Australian?
Possibly the world's first heavy music, it shocked Led Zep when they heard it.
The 1971 version of "Mama" live on GTK, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. They had played it at concerts much earlier.
Not sure of your usual genre, but Tash Sultana, "Jungle" bedroom recording is great, another version at California Roots is also good. Her version of "Blackbird" is anacoustic 12 string, and shows her guitar talent.
Of course Tommy Emmanuel, "Initiation" reigns supreme.
    Baby Animals"Backbone"?
The 10'54" version of ALL Along The Watchtower", but by Neil Young to cement his place as a supreme guitarist, this time playing with the old time legend Booker T and the MG's, Neils sister and ex wife backing.
Dire Straits, "Telegraph Road" live is fantastic, also "Sultans Of Swing", the greatest electric guitar player.
    Seriously, you'll never run short.
Tbh, probably the only other Kasey C song you would listen to is "Ain't No Little Girl".
Delta and Gurrumul "Bayini" live on the Voice, and for something different, also the Voice Aus, "O Mio Babbino Caro" and bonus song demanded by the judges. Claudia Harrison. It's different, but great, when an 18 year old barefoot surfer girl, no lessons, wandered in, killed it.
    Have fun!

There was a lot of hard/heavy rock before Momma in 1971 that Led Zeppelin would have heard including themselves. Seriously doubt anything Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs did would have shocked them because it was pretty dated stuff by 1972 when Zeppelin was in Australia. I saw the Aztecs several times in this era and the only thing notable was the volume. They were otherwise just another Australian pub band, one of dozens, filling their set list with the old rock standards. They were the ideal band in Melbourne where audiences were inevitably drunk. Less enjoyed in places where people wanted more contemporary music or music played with more finesse.

      @davidcarter4247 , thanks for nothing.
I can only go by what both bands told me.
LZ had heard Mama, seen the vision before they left the UK.
