Great review! finding the Bilstein 6112 front coilovers is impossible for 2007 Tahoe/Suburban LT 4x4. Called Bilstein in Germany and the guy was clueless as to where is US to get.
@@1116Redneck this is the case for just about any shock on the market right now. since covid screwed up production all these companies are playing catch up. I believe Kings are like 16-20 weeks lead time. Even 5100s are 12 weeks lead time.
How are they over small bumps off-road / onroad (pothole, Manhole, speed bump, etc)? I've heard the digressive shock valving is kind of hard on small bumps. Have you noticed that?
Digressive valving is kind of a weird thing. I wouldn't want it for a truck or fourwheeler. What I use are the Bilstein 7100s, which are linear-valved, same as what Fox and King use. The 7100s are also easily rebuildable/revalvable. And you can control the N2 pressure (recommended is 180-220 PSI) via a Schrader valve, so you're not stuck with the 300+ PSI that the 51xx shocks use. Pressure that high doesn't help the ride any. Linear valved and lower pressure is the way to go, IMHO. Unfortunately, Bilstein doesn't make strut/coilover versions of the 7100s. They're only offered in "universal" eye-eye shocks, either with or without reservoirs.
@@SDwriter.and.surfer wow that’s amazing information I didn’t know that! Thank you so much for the information, I’ll definitely start reviewing that for sure! Be safe and best wishes.
@@SDwriter.and.surfer i agree with you, had some 5100 of my 15' yukon and they sre far better than stock in terms of rebound and ride control, however they are also far stiffer of the little bumps and cracks and also cause the wheel to slam into the ground when briefly airborn. This got me thinking that although the 6112 would probably be highly pressurized, the issue is also the springs. Now the 6112 comes paired with springs that have double the ammount of wounded coil, that means its going to be more compliant. Really wondering whether to get the 6112s or not...cant afford to be a test mule yet again :p.

@@thollingsworth4910 The ride is improved from factory, it's just as smooth with no bounce. That's why I went with the 6112's because they're thicker than the 5100 they absorb the smaller bumps better. And they come with springs that are tuned to work with them. One thing you have to keep in mind is the tires, they play a big part in ride quality. A lot of guys tend to increase psi when you upgrade tires, to maintain stock ride you need to run tires at 35psi. I'm running BFG KO2's I've increased mine to 40 psi to get better MPG's and it seems to have kept close to the same ride quality as stock. I have had hard shocks and soft Ranchos...the Bilsteins are right in the middle with proper engineering and fitment
@@ChrisDIYerOklahoma Thanks Chris for your comments on the Bilsteins!
Have you looked into SumoSprings?
I just received Bilstein 6112/5160 for my truck. I'll have them installed on Tuesday then hope to provide my review by next Sunday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my ride quality on the street will improve.
Are the 6112’s stiff like the 5100’s? I had 5100’s and they were pretty firm, and only lasted me a little over 2yrs.
Did your 6112 settle at at all? Trying to decide between 2 inch and 1.6 setting.
Have you driven off road yet? How is it? Smooth?
Excellent thanks👍👍
I hated my ranchos, love my 5100's Nice vid thanks!
Did replacing the socks and struts fix the vibration
Look at 1:00. Am I the only one eyeballing the white F-150?
HAHA good catch. Super clean
Good video!...thanks so much!
You're welcome!
Do the 5160s add a small lift to the rear as well?
Any chance you have any videos comparing Bilstein 8112/8100 Vs 6112/5160
Great review! finding the Bilstein 6112 front coilovers is impossible for 2007 Tahoe/Suburban LT 4x4. Called Bilstein in Germany and the guy was clueless as to where is US to get.
Looking forward to see the new truck. I love my Silverado.
Thanks man, I am looking forward to it.
I'm looking at these shocks for my 2020 tacoma trd offroad I like what you're saying about them.
Good luck finding the 6112s anywhere. 10-12 week lead time!
@@sourkraut5369 I think if they're that good, they're worth the wait.
@@1116Redneck this is the case for just about any shock on the market right now. since covid screwed up production all these companies are playing catch up. I believe Kings are like 16-20 weeks lead time. Even 5100s are 12 weeks lead time.
@@sourkraut5369 guess I better get my order in asap
@@1116Redneck definitely. They are a great shock. Best bang for your buck in my opinion
How would the rear holdup with pulling a camper?
How are these holding up? If you don't mind providing a quick update.
How are they over small bumps off-road / onroad (pothole, Manhole, speed bump, etc)? I've heard the digressive shock valving is kind of hard on small bumps. Have you noticed that?
Too bad he hasn’t answered your question. I’m wounder the same before I buy.
@@BenBen-eu5wx me too!
Would the cheaper 5100 front suspension perform well on pot holes and cornerin?
I'm considering these for my 2020 f 150.
@T Hollingsworth I Have this setup on my 2020 F150, and it performs great. Really happy with the purchase.
@@skrsys thanks for the reply. How is the actual ride compared to the factory setup? I just recently changed my 17" wheels on my xlt reg cab over to a set of 18" Ford OEM chrome package wheels that you could get on a supercab. I also have my new cooper AT3 XLTs on there. I want to lift the front maybe an inch and I'm wondering how much stiffer the ride will be. Thanks.
I did run it at 35 psi and it was better than stock in every way.
You are gonna want the same set up on the f150. Do it quick.
Have you towed anything with those shocks.
Yes. I towed a Crown Vic 750 miles from Sacramento to Phoenix and a bunch of around town towing. They are awesome.
I went with Fox coil overs up front with bilstein 5160 in the rear. Mostly cause 6112 can’t be found
How is that working out so far? I’m literally thinking of doing the exact opposite of your set up but with 6112 front and fox 2.0 non coilover rear.
@@dad3562 my fox 2.0 rear shocks are garbage. They make my ‘21 so stiff. I literally bounce sideways on gravel roads and it’s frustrating.
@@stevenpigott3038 daaaaaaang!
@@stevenpigott3038 the FOX 2.0's are def harsh. The rebound rate is much slower then the Bilstein 5100. Truck handles like a go cart tho with the FOX 2.0 lol. I'm just about to order a new set of Bilsteins to replace these 2.0's just so my ride is a little softer. I've ran both and for my everyday driving the Bilsteins is my pick.
Does Bilstein make 6112 Coil Over for Rear?
Combine the 5100 with timberian off road bump stops help a lot.
Good review I have the bilstein 5100 all around in my 2018 Z71. Great improvement over the stock shocks. Are you going to keep the GMC as a second vehicle?
No, the GMC will be getting traded in, I don't have any use for two trucks.
My 2017 silverado does alot of bunny hopping that rear end just seems squirrely definitely thinks its time to do something
Hell yea I appreciate the review!!!! YEE YEE🤠 keep up the good content 🍻
Where are you located? I am thinking buying this struts and shocks from you before you trade the truck in
Did you ever find a fix for your shake?
Yeah, I bought a new truck.
If you put the Sierra back to stock I'll take those Bilsteins off your hands :)
Could you provide any info on part #47-310834… appears to be very similar to 47-273702
I Really appreciate your video
bring on the moto stuff.... We can go over stock Ohlins on a OEM Ducati vs aftermarket Ohlins on a V4Base and a V4R
I have a 2002 tacoma pre runner which feels every bump in the rear does anyone have the bilsteins in a older truck?
about to install 6112s in my 3rd gen 4runner, I currently have 5100s on it
I Put 5100's On My 2010 Tacoma Pre-Runner And Lifted The Front To The First Notch, 15/16" I Believe, And My Truck Looked Better And Rode Much Better. Had Them On For About 3-4 Years Now. II Have A Heavy Fiberglass Cover On Bed Of Truck Also. I Would Recommend them. Haven't Driven It Much This Past Year Since I Bought A F-150.
Spend a little more and go with Stage 1-2.5" Icons in the front and Icon 2.0" rear. I had Bilstiens on my 3rd gen 4runner and hated it. The Icons are amazing
What about trailering?
Hello there. Hey, thank you for the video. I have lifted 2014 silverado but I would like to lower it down. This combination of shocks seem great. Are you still happy with them? The current kit is 7", However, I would like your set up or maybe a 4". do you have any feedback about it? Did you have to install something else besides the shocks for a proper set up? Any advise will help, thank you.
I hope you do a video w the new truck & shocks. I just picked up my 21 lariat fx4. It's my 1st fx4 soo I'm going to need all the input I can get before switching over...
All oems put cheapest shocks they can on a truck......anything is an improvement to be fair
Would rather a progressive valved shock than digressive....just personal preference (had 5100s for a time)
How far you want to go is endless.....good value for sure
Also I hear fox customer service is shiat as well.....king is right down the street from me and eibach another 20 minutes.....I would prefer to do business with a place I can actually go to if problem arises
Tbh if your paying $100 fir a shock, how much can you really expect....
Buy another and slap it on if it causes problems
Any mass produced item will have discrepencies......it happens
Would it be good to have the 5160’s in the front and rear?
Why waste your money on the 5160's if you don't regularly offroad?
@Bryan Milligan They look great!
Its all based on need but 5100s and identical to the 5160. Only difference is the resi. So with that being said if you don't offroad save a few hundred and go with 5100s.
if money it not an issue then why not? Its better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it
Looks like I will be putting aside some cash :( but that will be my next up grade, Thanks
Are the 5160s a good shock to upgrade to for light to medium duty towing?
Absolutely, i run them on my 2016 Toyota tundra 4x4 as well as my 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. The tundra pulls a trailer with 4 ATVs and a 22 foot boat. Spectacular ride.
I put bilsteins on my 21 trail boss, omg it’s a different truck. It’s sad GM still uses them junk ass Ranchos on. 60k$ truck
Which ones did you get? The 5100s or 6112?
Shock Surplus mention all 5160s shocks have a 90 day warranty!
Bilstein do not believe it’s worth giving a longer warranty SAD. , must be made “junk”..?
Research this …read some owners had leaks on their 5160 under a year and NO warranty…
Your $1200 shocks outperformed the stock GM made in china $300 shocks. Am I shocked or am I shook? Neither
For your general street use and an occasional low speed gravel road are you really seeing the intended benefit of the high capacity options you installed, when a properly sprung 5100 package does the exact same thing for $700 or less depending on what springs you need up front? 20 mile stretches of desert washboard at 40+ mph, sure, but for most people all that heat dissipation capacity you paid a $500 surcharge for is unused.
@@Ethan-um7cp you are exactly right. For most the 5100's is the right setup. People think they need more but in reality it will be less comfortable for everyday use getting groceries
Those 5400s are so stiff ,there not worth getting at all
I don't like the rancho's on anything there way to soft and don't dampen well and there rebound sucks
Got out of a GMC to get into a Ford while overlooking a RAM. That's a Miss.
I didn’t overlook anything.
How are the 5160 with motorcycle in bed?
Add heavy coil springs.
Shocks are for bumps springs are for weight
Great video but Bilstein is pronounced Bil-stine with a long i not Bil-steen.
Looks like your in Arizona 😮
and you dont have to rebuild those Bilsteins every 30k miles......
No, because both of my 6112s failed in front with less than that on them, so they're junk now.
Sand shovel > wench for the beach.
U want to sponsored me?
I am just a RUclipsr, I dont sponsor people.
Just jooking bro
If anything he could teach you how to spell and type… even though majority of technology has auto correct haha 😆
You’d never get a sponsor with improper literature..
5160s are pissing oil out the bottom. Trash after 1.5 years.
I went from rancho to the bilstein and it’s night and day. Rancho is cheap
Cool, so, go ahead and shoot me $400 and I’ll upgrade to those reservoir shocks. Lol.
get off the left lane
I stop watching when you said Is fair amount of off roading, Construction sites, Truck clean as a whistle, And you don't even have so much as a farmer's tan. This just isn't for someone like me, but good luck With your youtube channel, person.
Ahhh yes. Someone who judges someone based on nonsense. Pay no mind that I had skin cancer from too much sun exposure so anytime I am going to be in the sun for any length of time I cover up and/ or wear a shit load of sunscreeen. Also, just because someone keeps their truck clean, doesn’t mean they don’t take it off road or on job sites, it means they take care of their shit. I spent 15 years as a construction PM and have had my truck buried to the frame rails having to be pulled out by tractors. Im happy I’m not “like you” because your a person who just passes judgement like a douche based on fabricated bullshit just to make yourself feel cooler. Definitely not my kind of person.
This guy doesn't know anything about shocks. The Rancho shock is a twin tube shock. Bilstein is a monotube shock. The 6112 means Bilstein is including the suspension spring. Bilstein sells the 5100 series which is shock only. Monotube is different technology. More responsive. Reservoir means nothing on road.
Lol. Everyone loves “Ackchyually” guy. Thanks for chiming in.
You're wrong LOL. 5100 is 2 inch body and 6112 is 2.5 inch body. 6112 is a much beefier strut.
