How can AEW use this when Punk is injured for the next 8 months? Nobody wants to tune in to watch 8 months of Bucks vs Punk back and forth promos. Besides that Punk is too fragile, he'd never make it through one Bucks or Omega match. AEW just needs to move on and use this as an opportunity to reset, and highlight and push some young new talent.

@@maklame3318 This is bad booking. Impact is putting on much better, quality shows with a lower budget. The amount of money TK has poured into AEW's production is disguising all of the chaos happening on and off screen. Even before Punk's original injury, they should have never gave a young upcoming Adam Page the title if they weren't going to go all in on him. That's common sense, booking 101. Now it doesn't matter if Mox or Page wins the belt, because they'll look like paper champs, the same for the trios belt and the womens title. There are way to many major booking mistakes which are affecting the value/legitimacy of their championships. Not to mention MJF's return got has been ruined and overshadowed even if it got a good pop at the PPV. Every time AEW picks up steam they have to push the reset button.

If this is storyline I think it’s currently being handled awfully. I personally thought it had to be because of how absurd the stories seemed. But when Tony came on Dynamite and didn’t offer any explanation for vacating titles that to me seemed it isn’t storyline. And if it is that was a huge miss in opportunity. Seems like it was realistic to expect that this situation making the news was a chance to intrigue casual viewers to the show to see what happened. And if they did the lack of acknowledgement took away the chance of hooking them. And what’s hard is I can’t confidently use that to rule it out because for whatever reason AEW has always seemed almost averse to explaining things on their show for casual audiences to catch up on what they’ve missed. Love or hate WWE one thing they’re great at is continuing to offer recaps in their show to catch people up on things they may have missed. WWE even does it for things that happened earlier in the same show. AEW has always seemed to just expect their viewers to always know what’s going on and to consume their outside products even to keep up on what’s happening for the main show. And that is exactly the opposite of appealing to non-hardcore fans of your product offering.

Also in this instance I am not trying to knock the performers but what about Dirt Sheet drama, Elite, Ace Steel, and CM Punk would be compelling to a new fan? Its real simple for the next 12 weeks each person in this Saga needs to have a sit down conversation with JR to have a shoot/work interview to air out their grievance starting with Ace Steel and culminating to Punk at the end. This can set up a Civil War style PPV once all suspensions are lifted and keep people talking and eyes on the product. Next clip shows a semi trailer with ad for AEW Elite and Punk on the picture. They are saying how amazing they never taught they would see them with Punk on an ad together. This thing seems like perfect entertainment for a hardcore smark audience like AEW. They must know this backstage stuff is eventually going to make it onto the internet. Wrestling should just assume there is no backstage anymore, every wrestling secret has ended up in the media now. AEW seems to rely on this for entertainment, rather than the stuff in TV. So, I guess it could be a work since some wrestlers realize nothing really stays backstage anymore. Too much internet awareness.

I agree. Anybody who had hope that TK was in control would have a hard time convincing themselves now after watching Punk emasculate him in front of everyone. And the fact that he never took up for the guys he hired to be EVPs in his company. If you were a wrestler with an offer to go here or to wwe I can’t see a reason why you’d try here. This place seems poorly run in almost every way. Especially looking at how giant their roster is compared to the tv time they have to feature people. I don’t see how anybody who wants to elevate their career would give this place a chance now. And I don’t even think it’s because Tony’s inept. I just think the dude has bit off more than he can handle and hasn’t been ready to delegate. He’s trying to take the McMahon approach and control everything. But the issue is McMahon did that but only had WWE to focus on. Tony is trying to do it while having multiple outside commitments making demands of his time. Until he learns to properly delegate it’ll get worse and worse.

He made to the NFL but decided football wasn't his thing...so he pursued MMA...and became a huge mega UFC star and there biggest Draw and pay-per-view buyrate king... and became the UFC Heavyweight champion of world and broke Pay-per-view buyrate ratings for UFC during UFC big Golden Era boom periods...when They were freshly new on Spike Tv.
Brock Lesner became a UFC Mega Star and mainstream star, much bigger star than he was when he was in WWE...because Spike ratings and Pay-per-view buyrates were higher then WWE...UFC was getting Attitude Era ratings back then and Attitude Era Pay-per-view buyrates in 2005-2014)...and most of there Pay-per-views back then had higher buy rates then the Attitude Era Pay-per-views.
UFC still gets higher Pay-per-views then any pro wrestling promotion now...accept for Wrestlemania, which does the same number as a big UFC show.
Brock became a even bigger star in the UFC..what are you talking about?
Unlike Punk who got his ass kicked by 2 UFC fighters in minutes or seconds and became a embarrassment and is mocked to this day for his horrible fighting skills...fake badassary...it's like Stone Cold & The Rock going to UFC in 1999-2000 at their peak and get destroyed in front of the whole world...they wont come back the same...they lost that mystic about them and causel fans
would lose interest in them because that saw that they are not as badass as they say they are...they're stock will go down and they won't be looked at as badasses anymore...It would be bad to lose as a top guy in a real fight...that's what Punk essentially did...people saw right through his fake badass exterior...just another indy DARLING that the Mark's worship.

I forgot to mention before his UFC career, he was The NJPW world champion.

Then he spent a few years wrestling occasional big matches in Japan for likely a hefty amount of money before pursuing MMA and becoming heavyweight champion. Brock’s levels of success are absurd. I’m not sure some people truly grasp how incredible it is for someone nearly make an NFL roster after having not played a lick of football since he was probably 18. Think about that: 9 years of no football and the highest level you ever played was South Dakota high school ball and you were very nearly on an NFL roster with the best of the best. Can’t see that as a failure.

Based on punk’s recollection of the story Tony asked about the tape and punk was respectful and tried to explain what the X meant but Tony seemed confused by it. He made a comment that punk will never make it to TV and at the time he was the ECW champ and looked at his bag and didn’t say anything the first time. It wasn’t until Atlas started calling him an a-hole in front of everyone that punk said anything. He didn’t act small but he tried initially to be respectful to Atlas. He did call out Atlas in front of everyone later though as sent down there to warn people to not turn out like him. Punk was respectful to guys like Harley race though. I’m not sure about Raven who did a lot for him. He was never disrespectful to wrestling knowledge as far as I know, his criticism is guys thinking they know everything already. He probably would have listened to tips on how to get over from Atlas.

If this is a work it would have to be the most elaborate and well executed work in the history of the business. As of now I haven’t seen anything that says this couldn’t be a work. Although, this work would involve working the boys along with everyone else, which is hard for me to think Tony would do that. A police report would have sealed this as shoot, but of course there isn’t one.

Tony may not have a spine. Tony may not have experience. Tony has alot of money. None of this matters. Tony knows pro wrestling history and he buys into pro wrestling tropes big time. He has recycled a few things from the past. I think if anybody would and could work the boys ,it would be Tony. I just get a vibe from the guy he intentionally holding something back. MY hope was that this is a work, but sadly probably is not.

We’ll know sooner rather than later if it’s a work. Long term suspensions, terminations, or no angle indicate are all indications that it’s shoot. So, we’ll see. I’d also add I think Brian Last is credible when he talks about how the elite, especially Omega have been disrespectful and demeaning to the other talent backstage for awhile now. So, here’s to hoping for the hottest angle since the NWO, but I wouldn’t hold any breath.

We still don’t really know if the MJF thing was a work or not. He’s back , he’s talking about leaving in two years but he’s on tv and has a chance at the champion title. Hmmm if this is a work it’s great and it’s something that no one else could do is this not the whole reason for AEW ? To be ground breaking . And let’s look at the fact that people h e been saying that AEW storylines have been weak and broken, well they hire the king of work shoot, mr cm punk and it’s a narrative that has already been written by fans and critics that he and the bucks wouldn’t get along , page did this promo that made no sense before punk got the belt but no fall out for his actions , and now the titles have been stripped people have been “suspended” but there is also talk of another punk injury that could have him out for even longer this time?!This is very interesting.

A new TV deal with a management team that has openly said they’re cutting $3B in costs. It’ll be interesting to see what the results are. Previous management at Turner were very AEW friendly - they extended them and gave them a second show like three months into the original deal. It’ll be very interesting to see how he handles a team that isn’t in love with his product and are openly trying to cut costs every way they can.
