This DM is so much better than my old ones lol. One killed half our party with dragons by not giving us anything to level on just fight these dragons. The other one was like Oprah with the gifts, you get a magic weapon and you get a magic weapon.
"Drow Approved" Well if it's good enough for a Drow it's good enough for me, thumbs up. If I had ANY friends willing to play Tabletop/Pen&Paper games I would buy a full set of Wyrmwood's stuff, it looks gorgeous =)
As a complete D&D novice, not that I didn't enjoy ep1, I enjoyed this one more - being able to organically come up with a plan together was pretty cool.
Given the structure (referred to by Jer as a "peir") and the presence of the guards, I think somewhere around here there's a lava boat. I want to know what a lava boat is made of.
just a sample of the mtg cards inspired in this D&D, feedback apreciated :P tried to keep it not broken and to get the LRR logo right www.dropbox.com/s/wj8kz5vm2vkl80y/Temple%20of%20the%20lava%20bears.jpg?dl=0 www.dropbox.com/s/spv4u93kk7nkifs/Lava%20Bear.jpg?dl=0
Wait, so... the party is bunched up, surrounded by enemies they can't really see, readying to attack the instant one comes into view, lest they start getting asphyxiated? I would've thought Cam would be an expert on this situation already. Perhaps they should have tried to avoid those tentacles...
Hey LRR I'm really enjoying this series so far, Is it possible that when this is over you could do a season two? it gave me something to look forward to at the end of the week
Question: If Plan A was to unleash an arrow volley and then immediately cast Darkness (whoops - shoulda said SPOILERS! first), then how is the party gaining any information at all on the results of those attacks? We already know that it's hard to see across under normal conditions - it seems like it would require some amount of what amounts to reaction time on the part of those targeted in order to make an informed damage assessment.
8:10 you're canadian, wouldn't that not be an issue for you?(I honesty don't know I know it would be an issue for me as an american but I thought the government paid for everything up there) or if that was in character is health insurance even a thing in this setting?
Some medicine are not totally refunded, also if you want to see a private hospital (you don't want to wait in line and want better service) you would need to pay full price. In those case, health insurance would be useful. Other than that, it's not really a thing in canada.
Legendary land: Temple of the Lava Bears enters the battlefield tapped. Tap Temple of the Lava Bears add 2 red or 2 green or 1 red and 1 green. Activated ability for 5 colorless put a 0/0 token named Lava Bear onto the battlefield it has Activated ability for one red Lava Bear deals 2 damage to target creature or player. Activated ability for one green Lava Bear gets +3/+3 until end of turn Green ability can only be activated once each turn. All tokens named Lava Bear get +2/+2
With the continuous +2/+2 from the land the bears would not immedialty die, however I do not know if this was added in after your comments were made. Also a "Shock" effect for just R and no limit would be way too good, even considering the 5 colorless initial cost. Maybe limit the activated abilities to be both only used once each turn or the red ability as a "fight-type" ability or the red ability a dragons breath.
No the " All tokens named Lava Bear get +2/+2 " wasn't added after I posted the comment. One red Lava Bear deals 2 damage to target creature or player only can be activated twice per turn.
Cantrips are very different in 5e than they were in 3.5e. In 3.5e most cantrips were basically useless, so in 5e the main use of cantrips is to be equivalent to a fighter's weapon attack: they're the main thing a caster casts when they don't have some other spell. (Which has the twin advantages of making it so casters aren't totally useless the second they cast their last spell and also making it so low level casters can be actually attacking with magic instead of having to lug around a crossbow because they don't get enough spells to cast every round.) Since they're supposed to be a caster's "weapon", most of them do damage comparable to weapon damage at that level. 2d10 at 5th level is pretty normal when you consider that most 5th level characters will have two 1d8 or 1d10 weapon attacks plus some damage bonus.
Also, don't forget, at 5th level most fighting-type classes get "additional attack". A ranged 2d10 is pretty reasonable considering that your fighter classes are going to be making their 1d8+3 (Ballpark for a melee weapon, plus str/dex modifier) twice, plus other activating abilities.
Brian Bowyer I love this system. It stops a spellcaster class from being "five spells and a crossbow". It let's the player feel like they're actually, y'know, CASTING SPELLS. The reason they wanted to PLAY a wizard/sorcerer/etc
they spent a full hour fighting an invisible, mostly intangible enemy, that would inflict a bullshit debuff, with no idea how close they were to killing it, i would've walked
+Joe Mamone Nope, definitely athletics. You are literally pulling yourself up, being flexible will help get holds for grip, but you won't get any further up without strength.
naWolfle Yup. I realized this lol. I've just started actively getting into DnD and reading so much gets things confused sometimes, especially since I'm learning to be a DM. It's part of the process lol just ignore me :)
"I haven't rolled this many dice since I played Exalted." was my favorite part.
Escapist Huh. Guess whoever was using this account last forgot to log out.
*whispers* "You killed it"
"I haven't rolled damage yet"
"It had one hit point."

That animated weapon accent was so macist.
Most Maces are Canadian!!! I'm going to run my first 5.0 game soon and I'll remember that!
Going to be really awkward when it turns out they were guarding against lava bears.
whenever anyone says Thok I keep hearing it as F**K
I keep thinking every time Paul says Thok he's cussing. Nothing turns your head faster than the promise of profanity.
Temple of the Lava Bears ep1 actually made me interested in playing D&D =)
AAaaaannddd Alignment changes...
Cam played Exalted? My hero!
I'm really enjoying these episodes
The Guards were ~70.71 feet away.
So Kathleen plays both Ricky Gervais and Ricky JerkMace? :-D
ive been looking forward to this so much i even checked out your website....
Just tried the bonsai thing, fingers in my mouth. Siri WILL recognize bonsai when it's said like that.
I approve of the Incompetech music at the end. Glad I'm not the only one who knows to show them some love :)
Keep it up just getting into D and D so THANKS!!!

Well, now that I've watched all the Dice Friends to this point. Lava bears it is lol. I miss having Jer around
Jer is really good at making static noise.

I started playing a sort of this with my friend and he took a running jump towards the platform on the lava
sqrt(50*50+60*60) = 78.1. So still in range.
Every time they say "Thock", well...

"Guard this lava flow in case of... LAVA KRAKEN!"
Fuuuuuuuuuu...
i love this so much!!
A cantrip that does 2d10 damage?
It's Lava Bear time!
Jer where did you get that robe?
I'm curious- Why not try communicating with the elementals? Are there lore reasons that would make that futile?
Ah I kind of want to play dnd you guys have a great gm last one I had killed us with douplegangers
I am loving this adventure! But really guys jumping right in there and killing them what happens if they turn out to be good guys....hmmm.
a cantrip that does 2d10? jesus! I mean in 3.5 max damage out of a cantrip was 1d4.
woot lava bear hype
26:36 oh myyyyy
You always need more dice!
1) Minnesotans don't say Eh. 2) Fargo is in North Dakota.
I seriously scrolled down to say this, but found that I had the same idea a month prior. Good call, me.
Mad Monty MN lol XP
I shouldn't be watching these when I don't have an active gaming group, makes me too anxious to game by myself
jer just gotta say nice beard
I can't believe it's been 2 years....
Will you play the mtg board game when its out.
TABLE KILLS FOR EVERYONE!!!!
So, Jer, your spell choices so far pretty much go straight from Prestidigitation to Nuke Self?
man it's gonna take them forever to finish doing 1 hour sessions

when i make a bank account i will buy one of those dice tower things
Is it wrong that I want a Canadian Mace?!?!
Any ordinary mace you find is Canadian. Not too hard to find, just go to Home Depot or Walmart or whatever. I have like 4.
When the Fuck do we get this module
20:52 / 52:37 Kathleen flips off the camra

Get rid of the tapping for mana and I love this card
The Lava Bear dies immediately regardless of the +3/+3 ability if I'm not mistaken. I don't think it can work quickly enough.
Correct, it would die before you could buff it. But you could make it a 0/1 that is sacrificed at end of turn. And tweek the buff to be +3/+2.
With the continuous +2/+2 from the land the bears would not immedialty die, however I do not know if this was added in after your comments were made.

masochistic mace?
Lava Bear 1R
2/2
Mountainwalk?
Give it first strike and mountainwalk. No that is OP, just give it first strike and +1/+0 if an opponent controls a mountain.
Or should it have mountainwalk and fire breathing but can't block blue creatures (it turns into stone).
I realize this series has been around a while but is it just me or is there a mild buzzing in the video?
A CANTRIP that deka 2D10?! Even at 5th level that sounds overpowered... Something I'm missing about 5th edition?
