That pianist is insanely skilled.
Honesty that pianist the the most impressive out of everything. He has to predict and also create something that sounds good with a second.

Somehow, this music makes me feel feelings that are the exact opposites of each other. It's incredibly upbeat and casual, and yet I have a feeling that the Man of a Thousand Hellos has some incredibly tragic backstory. Also, I wish there was a full version, and yet... the way this song is cut is just perfect as is.
It makes me feel like how Piano Man felt the first time I heard it.
It made me feel happy, relaxed, and rested, and then a little melancholic as I started to understand, and then finally content.
all he has to do every day is sit in a big chair and say hello to everyone walking by. surely there's a reason he has no responsibility or interest beyond that, and surely it's not a very happy one, but he seems content with his life. people from all walks of life and their smiles he gets to see every day. he's happy.
Someone in this comments section has made a fantastic full version
@@conorandkanohiyeah someone named @cojec made a really beautiful continuation to the song
@@michaelu3055 hehe thank you so much :D
The line "hello, lady with a bird" has lived in my head rent free ever since I saw this episode. I just love the imagery that this song evokes and the term "Man of a 1000 Hellos"
Me too 😂❤
The way he kind of sings in tune but completely into and out of the meter is classic Sinatra. Also the way he brought it altogether with the title card at the end was perfect.
You speak the truth, comrade
For real. He got out of time and I was like “Oh shit” and he came back into it PERFECTLY.
"in tune" i think is at best putting it very nicely and probably more realistically *way* off base
@@patrickhectorhe's in tune, though... goes a smidge flat at some points, due to him laughing while improvising everything. The main issue I see in his singing is breath control.
Ok so is that a real song or no?
Can we get an improvised dance episode

Wait till you find out they have a whole show that's just this on dropout tv. The guy singing is in it

The “foreign traveler” line is so immaculately delivered - goosebumps
How he tied the “Man of a 1,000 hellos” into the chorus was the chef’s kiss 😘. Even Sam was mouth agape 😮.

I went to highschool with Zach. I was in the musical with him my senior year. He has always been good at this kind of thing. I remember one day when all us musical kids were hanging out in between rehearsals, I guess. He ended up improvising a song for all of us about a guy who woke up one day to find that all the pants in the world had mysteriously disappeared. It was brilliant. He had us all dying laughing. And he has only gotten more talented. Its always great to see him on my favorite games show. 👍👍
thats actually so funny and cute
Talent isn't something you gain more of, it's something you make flourish. You're a lucky person to be able to compare Larvae Zach and Butterfly Zach.
Who’da thunk he’d be making a living from it now lol

I wrote an extended version! What do you think?
A rainy, blustery day
People walking down, and
People going upstairs, and
People making their way
And I park myself in the lobby
And sit in a big purple chair
And I wave at all the strangers that come into the room
And people say, "Who's that there?"
And I say, "Hello, lady with a bird!"
And "Hi, fellow with the ugly hat!"
And "Hey, hola to you, you foreign traveler,"
What do you think of that?
And they say "Why are you here in this chair all day?"
And I say "Nobody knows
Except for me
The Man of 1,000 Hellos"
A cold and quiet night
Still, a drizzle of rain, and
Still, some blustering wind, and
People nowhere in sight
And I stare outside of the window
From my spot in my big purple chair
And I wonder about all the strangers I met
And what they do when I'm not there
So I say, "Hello, closed-up coffeeshop,"
And "Hi, all of the stores I can see,"
And "Hey, all of you see people working hard
So what do you think of me?"
And I think, "Why am I here in this chair all day
When all of the world is outside?
I guess that's me
The man who cannot say goodbye"
A beautiful, dry dawn
People walking around, and
People coming upstairs, and
People moving along
And I wave hello from the lobby
From my spot in the big purple chair
And I see all the smiles light up on their faces
From people coming down the stair
And I say, "Hello, man with the guitar!"
And "Hi, girl carrying a cat!"
And "Hey! How are you doing, you love-struck couple,"
And I smile and I tip my hat
And they say, "Why are you here in this chair all day?"
And I say, "Happiness goes
To those who meet
The Man of 1,000 Hellos
Awesome!

The "foreign traveler" gives the man of 1000 hellos a dirty look and says "I've lived here for 25 years."
This is some "Nine in the Afternoon" energy
I can genuinely imagine Frank Sinatra singing this 😆
You haven't listened to much Frank then.

When he sings "wave to all the strangers that come into the room" all I could think of was panic! at the disco and brendon urie.
like old p!atd.
Lol same
probably because its (almost) the melody to “testosterone boys and harlequin girls” from lying is the most fun a girl can have !!

I'll be just going about my day and remember this song and it makes my whole body feel like its smiling. Genuinely such a fun little bop that I wish was a full song, incredibly talented singer and pianist. I would legitimately love to hear a song made by the two of them.
I feel like this was more Billy Joel than Sinatra but he killed it this is a masterpiece
More like a mix between the two.
Those short lines in the song fit the cadence of Sinatra, for example the lines "Hello, lady with a bird", "And Hi! Fellow with the ugly hat", "And Hey! Hola to you, you foreign traveller" definitely have the cadence of Sinatra.
Also, "big purple chair" sounds ALOT like Sinatra.
But yeah, definitely alot of Billy Joel in there.
Whoa. Was NOT expecting a voice that smooth to come out of his mouth! Damn!!
i actually got chills. this is so good
I’ve watched way too much Critical Role. When he said “making their way” I did the thing

This needs the Make Some Noise treatment.
This could reasonably be a themed episode of make some noise that they do once or twice a season
They kind of already have that with the Mountport spinoff called play it by ear, though this is more specific.

i could listen to this all day
I’ve watched this every day since I found it and I think full versions of the songs in the shorts should be made (except for the Tom Waits one I don’t want him to hurt his voice trying to keep the gravel up), it’d be great and plus we could play them on Spotify like welcome to mountport
Why does this feel like OG panic at the disco
I kinda hear it too lol
Sounds very Panic at the disco! ... which I love
i came here to make this exact comment.. it's way more panic than frank omg
I'm not a fan of Sinatra, but this song has a firm hold on me. I can never listen just once
As far as game changer in prov songs go. This is the one that I want to be a real song the most.

i feel like this would be a rlly good opening number to a musical
This kinda gives Panic! vibes.
RELEASE SONG!!! NOOOOOOW!!!
He gives off panic at the disco vibes. Pick up the tempo and he’s there. 😮
this song probably has a tearjerker of a bridge where someone says hello to the man and all he wanted was someone's acknowledgement
When I saw this episode, the one critic I had, and its a good one, is that he didn't sound like frank Sinatra. He sounded a lot more like panic at the disco in the older songs like that green gentleman.
Yes I was gonna say it was timing was too fast. But I suppose if he really sounded like frank he would be singing for a living
@@rayvicka9749 I'm pretty sure he kinda does
I think rather than matching the tone and everything he decided to match the pacing technique that Sinatra used
I’ve seen each one of these contestants sing and it amazes me how you found such talent. Someone who can just make up a well structured and rhyming song on the spot is amazing.
That is un
ironically a bop
Could be either a Sinatra song or a Panic at the Disco song. Either way its great.
