    I agree that the screwdriver should be at the bottom so for safe measure, I had one in the top and the bottom and eventually got it to work. Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video as you helped this home owner replace a broken lock with a working lock. 🔐

    the screwdriver to lock it should be placed at the bottom, not top. that way the lock will not fall through the door frame.

      I just took the original lock out to take with me to the store. Put the screwdriver in the top, fun times!

    THANK YOU! I could not figure out how to get the dang thing out without breaking the door apart! I ended up shoving the two long screws back in the holes to hold the mechanism in place and that worked out well until I was ready to slide it out.

    What do you do when the locking latch is broken and your door is "stuck" in the locked position?

    What should you do if the metal stiffner already fell into the door?

    • @philkrieg
      @philkrieg 8 месяцев назад

      This happened to me today. I used a stiff long wire and bent a hook at the end of it. Carefully slid the stiff wire down the frame, jiggled it to get past the top of the lost piece, then turned the wire to hook into the side of it. I needed a few tries. Carefully lifted the wire up.

    what do the metal stiffeners do? why would it fall into the frame?

    • @CyndyNeg
      @CyndyNeg 6 лет назад

      when u take out the lock, the metal strip does drop a bit..had to use the screwdriver to lift it back up again..

    • @r.c.850
      @r.c.850 6 лет назад

      The METAL stiffeners hold tight the lock screw, this is because the frame are made of aluminum and its not too strong. ... and can fall inside bc is like a little box and nothing is holding.

      What do the stiffeners look like? And where can you buy a new one....Home Depot, Menards,..etc?

      lol...mine too! Brand new door wasn't locking properly..took it apart...before watching this video... lock now at the bottom of door. Going to by a new one with a key, hoping to install it correctly so it properly locks. I guess the only way to get it out it to take the doors off...easier to buy a new one like me but use a screw driver to hold it so it too doesn't drop...good luck

      @@mreunome I ended up just lifting the door up out of the track and there's a hole at the bottom it should be easy to get out. Good luck

    Unless you live in a zero gravity environment, I suggest you put the screwdriver below the lock so it doesn’t fall down.

    I have a door mechanism that is stuck in the lock position and can’t open the door. How would I disengage the lock so I can open the sliding door?

    • @r.c.850
      @r.c.850 6 лет назад +2

      in that case, you have 2 options: get a magnet and a cord and try to back the piece or buy a new one. ;-)

    The Jeldwyn instructions are terrible and do not translate to this. They say lay horizontal, not even mentioning the removal of the handle. I am livid.
