I had two police package Caprices just like this car only a couple of years newer and the police package Caprices had only one key to control everything. I don’t know why all cars came with just one back then. It was much more convenient.
I had a 1983 Caprice Classic. Owned it for 31 years. THE greatest car I've ever owned. Had a 5.0L V-8 (305 CID), which is exactly the same engine that yours has. That engine compartment is IDENTICAL to mine. If it were me, and if it's in decent shape, I'd leave everything under that hood exactly as you found it. This includes the air pump and any other factory stuff. In the time I drove mine, it NEVER stalled at a red light on a cold morning, and it seldom required more that 2 cranks to kick over. The Rochester Quadrajet was as rugged and reliable as an anvil. It made emissions perfectly. Mechanics used to remark about its originality to me. I never changed the distributor, rotor, module, wires... nothing! These cars are bulletproof. I gave it good oil at regular intervals. The only major drive train issue I ever had was the tranny pump in the 700R4 (which was a common item to fail on these). Thanks for giving this car the TLC it deserves. I hope it gets a happy owner to give it another 40 years of service.
When I was 16 in 1994, my grandpa gave me his 82 Impala. We just buried him on Wednesday so I was feeling a little nostalgic for that car and this video just happens to show in my recommended. This has been a fun watch for me, thanks!
Seeing this car brings back memories. My family used to have a car just like this. It was a Maroon 1985 Chevy Impala. I loved that card. I wish I still had it.
What I like about this 1985 Chevy Impala I love the front ends four-eyed headlights, Chevy bow tie on the grill and chrome. Front bumper. I like the rear tail light panel. Overall. I love this body style along with its brother the Chevy Caprice. You guys are going to do this car justice and getting it cleaned in detailed and hopefully running again. Please keep up the good work
It looks like a 305 engine. I wouldn't swap it as long as it was running good. The most I'd do is an engine overhaul and possibly put a performance cam in it for a little upgraded performance and exhaust.
Not that one. It's a worn out rust bucket ready for the crusher. It isn't worth anything. The was a nice car when it was new but it's worn out. But I do agree that nice well cared for examples of these cars from the 1980's may bring a good price but generally speaking most cars from the1980's except certain sports cars aren't considered to be collectable. It just wasn't a great decade but cars were getting better by the end of the 1980's as technology advanced.
Helpful tip! If you guys ever get an intake fire, crank it over again. It will extinguish the flames. Be careful doing this if it’s actually getting fuel, but for the ones you’re trying to run on starting fluid this is the way.
Absolutely love your videos. Great to watch gefore bed. Soothing. May I suggest you obtain a few moveable partitions/walls that you can put on the opposite side of the vehicle when you are pressure washing. Could keep all the nasty spray from getting all over your shop. Keep up the hard work! The older/rarer/longer untouched the vehicle the more enjoyable the video. Cheers gentleman.
My grandfather had a 1984 Impala 4 door that was in dark red back in the late 80s. Had a color matched interior as well. I would go for rides in that car often when I was a kid. Miss those days.
Thank you..thank you! For doing an 80's car! Yes it was the malaise era for cars, but if you lived through it there are some truly wonderful memories of these cars. This Impala is somewhat rare with a factory vinyl top and AC. It would have been someone's pride and joy when new. Had to chuckle at the burgundy sport mirror off another car. That plush carpet was great.. not like today's velcro stuff.. We did not have a ton of safety features, but we have marvelous carpet to bleed out on!! 😂 Keep up the good work fellas.
Wow, another really satisfying video… it’s crazy that the vinyl roof is in such good shape and the rest of the car is worse for wear… usually it’s the other way around, but you brought back the shine, and great job on the interior!
My first car was an 88 caprice so this brings back some memories. Spent two days when i first got it detailing and doing paint correction. What i would give to go back to 96.
I have a question: Why do you always start cleaning your car with the wheels? When I wash my car, I always start with the roof and then work my way down.
That Rallye wheel goes back to 1968, offered as an option. 14'' and 15''. I really like that 1979 Caprice you have there in the corner. Nice clean up of the Impala :)
The square key is the ignition key the round on is to the doors, trunk and glove box. Looks like the PO had a couple nice boxy Caprice/Impalas. The front rims are a style of GM rally rim…I believe the Corvette/Camaro/Monte Carlo all had that style.
this car looks almost brand new, and i love that grey paint on it. shame it didn't turn on but i think she has a chance after all, i hope someone will rescue her. amazing job as always btw
I love the way you guys clean the cars. But you can easily get all those stains out if you mix a carpet cleaner and and oxy clean in hot water and use that a pre treatment!! Thank me later. But let sit for about 3 to 4mins
The best ballast you can use for winter driving is bags of salt. Then you can use it if you or someone else gets stuck! Also keep a shovel and if you're really hardcore, keep an actual recovery kit, or tow ropes, snatch block, and a come-along.
Fun fact - in the mid-1980s Chevrolet outfitted a few Caprice Wagons with C4 Corvette powertrains as chase cars for hauling parts while keeping up with Corvettes on test track. Look it up. Nice find!
It's a conventional Chevy rallye wheel that came factory for the Corvette, Chevelle, and any Chevrolet model car ordered, but was most seen on the Corvette.awesome and beautiful impala.thumbs up...👍💯😎🇺🇲❤️✝️
HEY BRENT AND RJ, You guys always ask us a question in videos so I have a question for you!!!! What do the owners do with the cars you clean up for them? Do they get them back on the road or do they generally sell them????
I'm guessing the owner of this Impala used those "ballast bags": in the trunk for traction in snowy weather. I did the same with my Dodge Dart using 100 lbs of ice melt. Made improved traction in deep snow possible.
I remember as a kid seeing those cars all the time on the road, sadly a lot of them were scrapped but we have a guy where I live now that has one of those Impalas that he bought brand new and he's still driving it to this day. Makes me sad that the days of those big carbureted sedans are long gone, 😢😢😢😢
Love all your videos but the ones under 30 minutes are my favourite so I can watch them on my break at work lolol. Also, the biohazard ones are, for some reason, my favourite as well hahah.
The odd wheel is a Chevy Rally wheel. They were available on pretty much every Chevy in the mid 60s thru the late 70s. The were/are a very popular wheel.
I have a soft spot for these cars. My first car was a 77 Caprice Classic. It was beat and worn out but I took that car everywhere until it caught fire one day and sadly that was the end of that. I hope to find another one of these some day and really appreciate it like it deserves
Impala? It should be called Pregnant Hippopotamus! Chevrolet, none of the moving parts hit against each other, so it will run! Great clean up guys, looks like it was a real "barn" car, was that cow poop? Okay, RJ gets first prize for car sounds. How's the Stair Master challenge going?

Might want to remove the paper air filter when trying to put out a fire. Keep this V8 if it is running well, why swap? Lastly, what does the undercarriage look like?
For future videos could you maybe reduce the music (or remove it altogether) compared to the volume of your speaking voice? sometimes the audio track gets kinda tedious, and I almost can't hear what you're saying over it

I have swapped out the motors on two of these cars for GM crate motors and one car made over 400hp and went 11s in the quarter mile. It was very fast for what it was
This type of 4door car is in demand for many types of racing, as well as being cheaper for insurance than a sports car. That said, the engine is a smog era motor so it has no power. It could be swapped for your favorite sport engine. I am told a 350 chevy is a good runner and common and easy to work with. I like 427 cobras, 455 olds rockets, and hemis in big blocks
I wish so badly you guys had a second channel where these cars would go to a shop and get fully working and all bodywork be completed. The detailing is fantastic, but I always want to see the rest done.
Safety tip: When fire comes out of the carb, cease to spray starter fluid and continue to spin the engine over with the starter. It will harmlessly suck the flame back into the engine.

That is a center cap for Chevrolet's Rallye wheels. Used on pre-1984 Corvettes, Camaros, Impala SS, and Malibu SS models. Keep up the good work.
The corvette ones said “corvette by Chevrolet” all the others just said Chevrolet
These Rallye Wheels were available in both 5 on 4½ and 5 on 5 over years, depending on engine. Big blocks and wagons had the 5 on 5 bolt pattern.

The good old sandbag trick for better traction in the winter. Car looks amazing after the detail
Those different wheels/hubcaps are rally wheels, which usually have beauty rings and center caps like Monte Carlos.

FYI @2:18, The round key is not only for the trunk, it was also for the door, gas cap, and glove box. NEVER was the square key for the door as stated.
