Wow. I was getting ready to end up just like you by blind jumping to that unidentified signal. A bit of more preparation is strongly suggested. Good series.
For sure! Glad you didn't make the same mistake as me. Tbf, I kinda figure I'd lose the ship, just thought I'd have more than 10 seconds to try and fight back. lol
So if you want the Big Red Ship you were talking about last episode, you'll have to find a station that sells ships in either orbit of the moon or in deep space. Being on the moons surface, only certain ones will be available for purchase. Also, it looks like heavy armor is going to be 100% required for dealing with those encounters. Most of the ships for sale are not made for battle. The workshop may be your best bet.
@@SurvivalBobGaming I don't know, you might have been able to do something with a couple rail guns and artillery cannons. Maybe jumped in 5km out, slowly working your way closer to 2km. Which I think is the max distance of vanilla weapons. Be careful though, some of those encounters have warheads armed with a 15 minute timer. I'm not sure how they work, if it's a standard sensor or something else that can detect you from farther away.
Their are at least 5 ship's that I know of that has jump drivers that you can buy (a big red ship, the big green ship, a couple of blue ships are what I can remember) but it's dependent of the stores, on planets and moon's
I don't have much to add this time. You didn't really have any problems. But you really did go into that factorum encounter cold didn't you lol. Also, the plushie is a small grid block so you cant attach it to large grid. And when you throw it out of your inventory it counts as a component and components despawn when left loose. What most people I've seen do is throw down a small grid magnetic plate and put the plushie on that.
I found that same base, it has a large proto jump drive inside. So far i've found 3 proto bases. The one with the debris field and the jump drive (the one you found), one with a refinery that's booby trapped with warheads, and a massive one with a energy shield that has exploding spore pods with the large drill in the bottom. The one with the drill made me furious because i'd probably died 10 times trying to raid it only to find the reward was the drill of all things. On the plus hand it had a large reactor and a shield generator so i got a good stash of components from that. There's also a spawn where you can fight off a few ships to get to an active cargo ship but all you get from the cargo ship is a couple of the new gyros and a single large thruster, it has a jump drive but it's the normal one of all things which is kind of lame. I'm still stalking around looking for the assembler and small grid jump drive spawns (if they exist).
what's your raiding strategy? type of ships? solo or with a group? drones? I'm trying to get a plan together for next time. I know I have a little ways to go.
@@SurvivalBobGaming I have my main ship set up with a small 3x3 printer and a small grid fighter type ship that has projectors that are set up for two different types of missiles. One is a simple dummy round that's little more then a row of blocks with a couple of small batteries and a single thruster, it's meant to be super cheap to print so i can launch them in clusters. The second is a really simple remote controlled ramming type drone with a gatling gun slapped on the front. I'll usually add a decoy block to some of the dummy drones and launch a bunch of them close to the base but on a path that passes them to lure away the ships then use the ramming drones to smash into any turrets. Basically the small grid fighter is used almost exclusively as a platform to launch drones and missiles from range. I'll hang back around 7 or so kilometers when attacking so if any enemies start heading towards me i can jump away. Picking off enemies at range is what works for me.
@GhostOfSnuffles that’s a heck of a strategy there! It seems very well thought out! I was definitely thinking about drones but was more in the line of attack drones. I really like the idea of cheap decoy drones you employ!
4:07 "Trading mode? That's interesting. I'd never saw that before, is that new?" Only if you consider 2019 new! I believe that was added with the Economy Update. I believe it permits people to connect (for the purpose of trading) without allowing them access to controlling the grid they're connected to.
so it's more of a multiplayer thing? and let's not talk about thinking 2019 is new. At my age I think a lot of stuff is new that's been around for years. lol
@@SurvivalBobGaming It's how NPC stations can allow you to trade with them without giving you access to their stations, so it's more than a multiplayer thing, but a player would only be using it for other players, sure.
so bob you ever want to fly like a mad man with no consequence? do it when going to a station in space or on ground. you take no damage in a safe zone so crash away or fly your little engineer at 500m/s and bounce
the safezones around npc stations dont allow player or grid collision damage, they also dont allow grinding welding drilling or landing gear lock and will prevent firing weapons as well as cancel any damage fired from outside the zone into it, you can still freeze to death or suffocate inside them though
@FeltyChameleon I know I crashed on Mars at the end of my 100 days video last year and I thought it was in a safe zone. I may have been just outside of it. I’d have to go look. Further testing and recklessness is required. 😆

I love most of the contact update but the g menu changes made thing worse. So many Groups were broken up i can no longer fit all the blocks into my tool bars. I've used the same tool bar set up for years and rarely ever opened the g menu. it doesn't have to make sense that merg blocks are with the pistons they just have to be there where they have always been. a line of text explaining the block groups and the 9 slots in each of you nine tool bars would have been a much better way of helping new players figure it out. alienating the 4000 hour plus guys was an interesting choice.
plushy vanished because its a small grid and had no battery, place down a small grid battery before placing plushy. all unpowered grids get cleaned by the game
yeah, it's pretty messed up it's taken this long. I've seen it take a while for several games I play to update on Xbox lately. I'm not sure what the problem is but it's like they aren't allowed to say anything other than we are working on it. That leads me to believe it's a Xbox/MS issue. Either way, it still sucks waiting on an update when everyone else is playing it.
That jump directly followed by a railgun sabot coming right at you had me rolling.
