As insane and iconic of a moment this is, I'm absolutely howling at the lack of music and voice acting in the beginning of the scene. Elise's delayed reaction and the grass sounds are making me cackle. This game is such a guilty pleasure.
Yeah I’m really sorry but I can’t take this scene seriously at all. The lack of music, the overall insanely awkward feel, and the cheesy Dracula music at the end just take away any impact.

If by Robotnik, you mean Dr. Gerald Robotnik, then yes… in a way, with the Biolizard (although Biolizard betrayed Dr. Robotnik) and the Space Colony ARK, with a fucking death cannon. As for Dr. Eggman Robotnik, all he did was blow up the fucking moon. The only time Dr. Eggman did something like that was in Sonic Unleashed, during the Egg Dragoon fight, but he was facing Werehog in combat, not Sonic. Although, Werehog is technically a bestial transformation of Sonic, so my words are so goddamn pointless.
I can just imagine, if Eggman was watching, his jaw would be on the floor. Then he’d probably throw a tantrum also, trashing his lab knowing that someone killed Sonic first. Then probably cry knowing he never got to beat his rival.

Even though this game is considered one of the worst of all time, there's no denying Mephiles is quite possibly the darkest villain in the franchise, even moreso than Naugus or the SatAM incarnation of Robotnik. He kills Sonic. KILLS him. Something that none of the other villains could ever even dream of doing. And as Elise mourns the death of the fastest thing alive, and her hero, Mephiles just laughs at the atrocity he's just committed. And it's one of the most impressive and intimidating evil laughs I've ever heard. Props to Dan Green for making this guy both despicable and terrifying at the same time.
When I saw this for the first time as a little kid I was terrified. Terrified as in I couldn’t watch this scene until I was much older! They did a wonderful job with this scene
Let's be real here, this is arguably the best Sonic moment of all time. And to think it would come from a game that had sacrificed quality for quality soundtrack and opening cutscenes
The game’s main issue was that Sega rushed the devs and therefore the game was unfortunately plagued with lots of bugs/glitches that ultimately made the game unnecessarily too difficult to get through half the time. If only the game had released at a later date it could’ve been something like project 06 with everything refined and fun to play.

Elise dying may have corrupted Iblis' 'true form' and made Mephiles unable to fuse with him in that fashion.

No. no way, that was a one shot kill, Mephiles just instantly gets the killing job done that Eggman couldn't do, killing Sonic in an instant second impaling him with no warning or anything, what a beast Mephiles is. No wonder Mephiles is the only Sonic villain to ever instant kill like that in one shot with no effort. The only one to stand a chance against that monstrosity is Shadow the Hedgehog due to Chaos Control, there's no way Sonic could fight a being like that without Chaos Control.

Even thought this was undone after Elise eliminated Solaris mephiles remains the only one who has killed sonic Infinite could have done so in sonic forces but both him and eggman were too arrogant to just finish him off after he's defeated, i understand eggman wanted payback after decades of humiliation and infinite wanted to do to others the same shadow did with him, but seriously man after so many opportunities you can't waste your chance. @@ALVAROT91 Might have been because he needed Iblis to be released in the correct fashion, by making Elise cry, and since Mephiles is obviously a sadist who loves causing emotional turmoil, this was the perfect way of going about it.
Elise dying may have corrupted Iblis' 'true form' and made Mephiles unable to fuse with him in that fashion.

No. no way, that was a one shot kill, Mephiles just instantly gets the killing job done that Eggman couldn't do, killing Sonic in an instant second impaling him with no warning or anything, what a beast Mephiles is. No wonder Mephiles is the only Sonic villain to ever instant kill like that in one shot with no effort. The only one to stand a chance against that monstrosity is Shadow the Hedgehog due to Chaos Control, there's no way Sonic could fight a being like that without Chaos Control.

Even thought this was undone after Elise eliminated Solaris mephiles remains the only one who has killed sonic
Infinite could have done so in sonic forces but both him and eggman were too arrogant to just finish him off after he's defeated, i understand eggman wanted payback after decades of humiliation and infinite wanted to do to others the same shadow did with him, but seriously man after so many opportunities you can't waste your chance.
Mephiles didn't waste it, one can say mephiles was a coward for tricking sonic but more than cowardice he was simply desperate to free ibilis. Even tho shadow defeated mephiles i really doubt sonic would have won against him

At the end Mephiles released a freshed out flame of disaster Ibilis and he had 2 chaos emeralds he was able to use to summon the 7.

The music and the evil luagh after Mephlis kills Sonic, just peak villainy! I loved it! Dan Green killed it as Mephiles. No doubt one of Sonic’s greatest villains and he only exists in one game. Mephiles the Dark carried this game.

It was chilling to hear Yami Yugi's voice in such a sinister role. Mephiles will always be remembered along with Star Fox's Andross and Paper Mario 2's Shadow Queen as one of the most sinister villains in a game made ostensibly for kids.
