I always loved the look of the MGA and MGs in gerneral. In 1974 I found a restorable 59 MGA 1500 sitting in a weed patch near a house. True story, I traded an 8 track under dash tape player for the MGA and towed it home. Then did an amateurish restoration on the car. It looked great and drove great. Sold it in 1981 for $3,500 to get money for home improvements.
Had a few B s in the early 70 s .Enjoyed them immensely.Of course they were never the quickest but still great fun to drive.
Useful film. Always speak to someone who has owned and driven these long term first
No, MGB's are not fast, but they handle ok,, overdrive is a must option,. I've done 7 of them over the years, along with other british stuff. Bottom line, a Properly Serviced, Properly put together MGB will be as dependable as any thing else you can drive, with a high fun factor.
Quite right, they were never were fast but the sound has always been distinctive. The shape timeless like a Morgan.
The beauty is in the simplicity.
I've always loved them.
MGB gt v8 not quick ??
Wish they still made them-just the same -not that stinking retro restyle crap. I've had 4 and drove the wheels off them. Loved my 1969 and 1972 MGBs the most out of all. Dependable and great fun and well balanced.
Gotta love a car you put endless time and thousands of dollars into and find you could buy a really nice one for only 5k. If you buy one to restore and resell, id suggest rethinking it. I do it for mine because its a lifetime commitment
P.S. You can actually feel the road in the wheel. That tells you what the car is actually doing. Modern cars have absolutely no road fell at all and to me that's dangerous.
Don't know what cars you've been driving then.
Guessing not much approval for my 1964 MGB---tube frame, custom front and rear suspension, aluminum rod, solid roller cam, high compression 350 SBC (500hp or so), only MG parts under body are fuel tank (to be changed) and steering rack (good piece)-------BIG FUN!
I don't think people care. They made so many MGBs.
Biggest problem with MGs here in the Eastern United States is Rust!
Absolute nightmare with my MGBs, undercarriage rust. Second problem I've had is electrical problems. I love the style and ride when it runs...
Ian Royle a friend, doin a great job here. (presenter)
I grew to hate wire wheels when I had my first MGB. Nobody wants to change your tires, you can't get them balanced and spokes break.
Maintained flats myself with the tire iron kit.
There is no such thing as a MGB GT convertible. All GTs are fixed hard top
Brian Galbraith yes I agree . Some gt''s however did have a superb roof fitted to both the bgt and cgt and bgtv8.
Men and Motors was the steering wheel changed whilst driving??
Hi, thinking buying one but has glass roof. Is that standard feature or canvas type was only used?
You could get a glass top for them but standard was the folding top
My first sports car was an MGC GT. What a piece of crap. I had to rebuild the transmission, rear end, and engine.
Boy, I'd love to have it back!!
Good video for the prospective MG owner.
Shame about the sloppy video editing at 3:09, while driving an MGB the shots of the dashboard are of an MG Midget.
Well, well....... well spotted manorcam. The steering wheel mysteriously changes from spoked and wood rimmed..

in short pull the seats and carpet before you buy and of course put on a lift
There's no doubt the MGB is an appealing car especially the GT model, but would I buy one - no, there's something about them that's not right, it's probably because they lack performance. I recall by the early 70's you could buy a sporting saloon that could easily out perform a B and were better to drive. However there is a twist to this in that I have bought an MGC, a poor man's Austin Healey, not a car for traffic light grand prix's, but stacks of power with a minimum of fuss and they sound great - a proper sports car. The torque of a straight six is something to behold, something a B will never have.
Geoff T - it's certainly a nice sounding motor, but in reality the B is a much better balanced car than a C. Neither is a sports car, just a charming cruiser. It's entirely unrealistic to think that anybody would find either sporting when a base-model Fiesta would be quicker from A to B.
love the 'C'. Owned one in New Zealand over 30 years ago and regret selling it

@@joecubbable the hankering for another MG never left me so i recently bought a 1970 brg B roadster and am now reliving my youth!
@@joecubbable have bought another C now need to sell the B
At 3.09 the car is zipping along the road yet the speedo is registering about 20 - 25mph. I guess this car is in need of sorting, either that or the background green screen needs synchronising...lol
There were around 9000 mgc's made not 3000
Yeah, overdrive would be nice. Highway use is unsustainable for me. 4k at 65 70 m.p.h. getting passed by sentras like im standing still. Now around town, car purrs at 45 50 m.p.h.
"not like a modern car, where the gear leaver is more like a porridge stirrer" hahahaa!
I love my MGB's positive gear shift, no modern car comes close. These were made for pure driving enjoyment.
A very fast car. Especially. With overdrive.
It most certainly does NOT have the performance of a modern saloon car. Doug DeMuro drove a fantastic old V12 Ferrari in one video and pointed out that, in raw numbers, it can't keep up with a Camry V6.
The MGB would have benefited with a change of design and modern accessories over the years 1962-1980. It just didn’t improve along with other cars of its ilk. Compare them with a Mazda M 5 and there’s no comparison. 103 mph is not fast enough for a sports car. I fitted mine with a Weber carny over the S Us better car overall
You are the wrong owner for an MGB. No understanding or appreciation.
Two batteries under small back seat
Easy to convert to a single 12 v battery.
Center of gravity. Good place to put them really
The MGs were beautiful cars from an aesthetic point of view but poor from a mechanical point of view .... Poor engine, low power and too much maintenance was needed.
BS
You’re so wrong. Innovative design, iconic and influential in many aspects.
9000 thousand MG C's were made.
In fact there were 8999 made, 4542 were Roadsters, 4457 were GT's of which 1282 had automatic transmission. By December 2019 only 1325 have survived in the UK.
The woman was talking about the first year of production I think so quite likely correct.
@ 3:14 i thought this was the MEN and motors group >:( cant believe this tbh simply absurd
LMAO
all these comments saying mgb is not quick. go drive a mini and tell me its not quick and its slower than an mgb. its all about size that's makes things zippy
The only reliable MG is a Miata with a MG badge stuck to it.
The Magnette, the WA, the T-type, the pre-war Midget, and the A would all like a word with you.
@@jakekaywell5972 Any MG is reliable if it has the right owner.
Most of the people in this old film would cry if they knew what a shower of shyte MG is now.
This video is just crinj😂
