That's the external gate opening up and blasting straight out under the car. A lot of turbo cars do this

Stock they dont have this opening sound, but after wastegate install they do. it prevents you from having too much boost. How it works usually its just a spring that opens from pressure, look it out ... there are many setup styles tho

A waste-gate is installed on the exhaust manifold to release excess exhaust going into the turbo to control the amount of boost/spool. What you are hearing is that excess exhaust going into the waste-gate, through a pipe that goes out in the atmosphere also known as an "open dump", which is non-recirculating. Dumped under the car straight down or out the hood. Some people like it, others don't because it's loud and could be smelly.
That's why you see small exhaust tips (open dump waste-gate) and larger ones (exhaust) coming out the hood of some cars or out the back like twin turbo Huracans, once the exhaust comes out the turbo, it's useless, done with, so shoot it out straight pipe, in racing you don't need mufflers, resonators, catalytic converters, etc

Yes and no, new school turbos provide better spool and power so you do get the best of both worlds. Street cred, HKS t51r wins hands down
