In this video we will be showing you how to make your turbo noises WAY louder with not that much effort and at no cost. T51R Mod covers can be pretty expensive and this costs basically nothing and produces a very similar spooling sound.
Any modifications are done at your own risk!

thanks for posting this. I drilled 8 5mm holes in my compressor housing and it sounds insane. no loss of power
Video??

Ha, amdisbest, Nick, has a video of an Audi 20 v EFR7163 with a speed sensor hole without the sensor installed thats precisely this, thanks for sharing the how to
Sure but there needs to be at least a plug on the speed sensor port as if its open that might not be ideal power wise lol
Alright well ima say this I've delt with turbos for years now and at first seeing this I really wanted to call bs. I have a gt3071r car and with the anti surge housing it's already loud. But I decided why not test this and see what could possibly happen. Well I drilled 6 4mm holes around slapped it back on and holy crap the difference. Not only is it louder but with differnt intake tubes or even streiggt compressor all give off differnt sounds and the spool down after letting off throttle is even loud. So thinking maybe bc it already anti surge we had an stock k03 turbo car and decided why not. And yes indeed with 6 2mm holes drilled it's pretty loud to sounds like a drill more than anything but worked. I've had a t51r compressor and there nice but for the money I always just hot an standerd anti surge and let it rip bring not much of a difference between. But if you have one and want to do a free quick mod to boost the noise this method works great.
Awesome I’m gonna drill my housing on my 2015 Ram 2500 6.7l Cummins-can’t wait to hear the results! Thanks for posting this & letting everyone know-👍🏼
Can you do a diagram on where to drill exactly???
I did this trick with a 4mm bit and 6 holes
Works great😅

haha yeah pretty much!
If you had a longer straight section on the intake pipe it would actually make that first note of the flutter hit even harder and sound like all the skyline/supra videos we all love. It's called a "dose pipe" and the youtube channel "keep it reet" has THREE comparison videos for different lengths, bends, diameters, and materials. The ideal dose pipe is 3-4x the required diameter in length, straight, and made of metal (plastic ones don't dose).
The next best thing is a long sweep/gentle curve 90-degree bend, same thing with the metal and being the required diameter. Anything over 6x-8x the required diameter loses the long first note and makes chipmunk noises instead. Anything with less than 2x the diameter in length before any bends and less than 1x the diameter in length after any bends loses the dose entirely and sounds more like basic flutter.
I have a 90 degree elbow on it with a large radius an
I know what a dose pipe is but it only works well on turbos that dont have anti surge, otherwise it desnt do much, also doesnt do much in terms of spool sound but only makes the flutter a lot louder
@@throttlebuddies6356 I heard a guy with T51r mod AND loud dose (the long first note kind that we all want) and IDK how he did it, but he did. I left a comment but IDK if I'll get a response.
Loud whistle + good dose is my dream setup, but if I had to pick, I'd choose dose over the whistle.
@@Drunken_Hamster you need a turbo that doesnt have anti surge as the dose is much louder then. With an anti surge housing you need double the boost pressure to make the same kind of sound approximately if you are not running a bov
@@throttlebuddies6356 Anti-surge is the "high flow" thing, right? The slot or holes that go around the main entrance to the compressor wheel, and the thing that you modify to do the "T51r mod"?
Do you think on a turbo with an anti-surge housing you can just weld the slot shut and that'll be good enough?
@@Drunken_Hamster exactly.
yes, you could, BUT aluminium gets distorted very easily by heat so might not be the best idea, tho some turbos have non-high flow options available.
With a lathe you could also create an insert.
How do you think a slot would sound? Say eighth inch wide, quarter inch deep and three quarter inch long?
id say the difference wouldnt be huge probably as it is the air rushing past a sharp edge that creates that sound. maybe a little more pronounced, although with a slot depending on the length i would be careful because the wider it is, the more of the smooth flow you are going to disturb
Now what if you did both t51R and the holes?
no idea, was to cheap to do the t51r mod but id guess itd just get a bit louder since they are caused by the same effect, which is air rushing over a sharp edge and therefore creating a turbulence, just like a whistle.
So on the Pulsar unit which has a speed sensor, no drilling is needed? Yout just put a spacer on there? How thick a spacer?
Doesnt really matter i think 10mm or something should even be sufficient.
@@throttlebuddies6356 I got a G35-900. Im not entire sure if the speed sensor hole is even threaded. Theres a hole, and then theres a black plastic cap on it thats held down by another smaller hole next to it with a bolt. I dont think the actual hole that goes into the turbo that the sensor sits in is threaded. Im a bit confused as to how you are supposed to mount this spacer exactly
@@placeholdername3206I have a Garrett g30-770 and mines the same way. Has to take a look and got all excited but then I was like what? How’s a spacer fit in here 😅… I wonder if we just take it off entirely??
Doesn’t matter on the turbo size would it work on a stock Srt4 turbo
In theory would work on any turbo
I’m very tempted to try the drilling mod. Just the one hole? Any idea of drill bit size?
yes just one something around 6-8mm should suffice and 1-2cm deep is enouch
@@throttlebuddies6356 I can confirm this works! Was on a 1.4 TDCi fiesta so the turbo was only the size of my hand but tested it out and it worked a treat. How ever it sounds like a ‘dentist drill’ which I’ve heard before but I love it. Thanks for posting this video!
@@SpeedyJames haha yeah it is very high pitched as you can hear in the video! but tnaks anyway!
Did you try it?
@@Gusmanbro try what and who?
Is it bad if you just completely remove the bolt on the pulsar turbo
well yeah that would cause a leak and the turbo wouldnt be able to produce the same amount of boost, but why would you want to remove that bolt completely?
@@throttlebuddies6356 it sounds alot better with it not there when i put it back in takes alot of the noise away
@@michaelch6536 yes because you are creating a leak and pullig air through the hole the turbo will lose a lot of efficiency
@@throttlebuddies6356 yeah i understand but thanks for the tip it sounds good with the bolt in aswell
I removed my bolt and in welded a plate over the speed sensor flange lol! My turbo is super loud now 😂👌🏼
