- Mayor LaToya Cantrell addressed questions on the city's rising murder rate, her travel and questions around it and more topics Tuesday.
A defiant Mayor LaToya Cantrell pushed back against shots her city and her administration have taken in recent weeks on myriad topics following a construction update news conference Tuesday.
Cantrell said she disagreed with New Orleans being labeled as the Murder Capital of the World though she did not say what about the numbers that resulted in that label were incorrect.
“I do not embrace that at all,” said Cantrell when asked directly about recent national and local news articles on the topic. “(It) isn’t based on what’s happening on the ground. We have experienced an uptick in crime.”
Cantrell went on to emphasize that most crimes were not random, but the result of disputes between people who know one another, extended family members and mental health issues along with people settling disputes with guns.

Narcissism at its finest . She doesn’t care about anything except her false perception on her non existent “progress” and deflecting criticism, acting combative and condescending when anyone asks a simple valid question about the issues. She even disputes the murder rate and tries to fix the numbers to dispute that the city does not have a violent crime problem. Unreal. She’s exhibiting sociopathic behavior. She’s lost control.
I can’t with her. She’s literally saying the murder capital issue is no big deal.

Well when you're spending 30k of the city's money on your PERSONAL pleasure within a couple of months. No the city can't afford the IMPORTANT things it needs. 30k? That's someone's yearly salary that you blow on your personal bs, that is against the law. My question is how many of her family members and colleagues all of a sudden became wealthy over night and how many gifts has she given and received while working for the city? I've taken that same test working for the State of Louisiana. But only one mayor in the history of the city showed up in support of the family and individual convicted of a violent crime. My neighborhood (here in Gentilly) has turned into a warzone.
