- It's 80s slasher review time. Nightmare Beach (1989) is is a beach slasher with a heavy giallo feel due to the "guidance" of Umberto Lenzi and the fact that the Italian dub works much better than the English (my opinion). Let's review this deep cut. #NightmareBeach

People hate on Friday the 13th. But when you watch these low tier slashers, Friday the 13th is the gold standard.
I totally see what you mean, but it doesn't make Friday the 13th any more entertaining lol.
I love Nightmare Beach. Think its a very underrated slasher.
Lenzi is the Man. Out of all the Italian genre directors, he easily has the largest number of fun movies in his filmography. More than Bava, Argento and Fulci. Lee - you should check out his insane crime movie Almost Human. It will flip your Corky Burger.
I’m curious to check out his stuff now.
Brooo you have got to see Amsterdamned if you haven't...another motorcycle helmet killer slasher from 80s, but it's a cinematic masterpiece and not too sleazy. Just very SHARP!
Adding it to my list!
Oh man I remember seeing this years ago and loving it because of the 80s theme and simple yet interesting plot.
Yep!
Gotta love the 80s! Friday the 13th will always be one of my favorite slashers. I always thought the dubbing hurt a lot of the films.
I think it adds to the charm.
Nice review, interesting film. Seven Blood stained Orchids is real classic if you like Giallo IMO
It's a great Giallo for sure!
I definitely plan on checking it out. Love giallis
I guess it is a good thing then that the one on RUclips is the Italian version. Just have to play around with the CC to get the English subtitles. 😉 And John Saxon, the guy took on Freddy, so that shows how tough of a cop he is. Anyways, I'm sure I'll check it out. Thank you, Lee.
I guess you got lucky on that one Jen!
Even if it's not well-acted, Nightmare Beach has a pretty kick ass soundtrack and awesome design for the killer.
Very true.
Watched this on Prime this week i seen it availble on the channel & remembered you reviewed it.
I enjoyed it a entertaining bizarre 80s horror flick.
So fun!
Talk about amazing timing, my girlfriend and I watched this over discord with our friend this weekend! We loooooved it, peak 80's cheese
Nice!
Hey Drumdums, Miss Edwige Fenech should have her own channel!!!!!
Agreed!
Just caught this one for the first time yesterday...loved it. Highly engaging, fun, and goretastic. John Saxon was hilarious. Thumbs up
@@frankb821 Yes! This was such a nice surprise.
" I didn't talk about the priest during the review but who cares right" 😂 love it.
One of the things I love about Italian horrors/thrillers is the hilarious dubbing. It kind of takes the edge off of the dark material. Would Demons be so funny without Tony the Pimp's blaxploitation voice?
Yeah the dubbing is part of the charm.
The Slasher villain in this supernatural horror movie has a very cool costume, and it seems slightly inspired by Mad Max even though he’s wearing common Motorcycle leather clothes.
I'm glad you liked the movie brother... I love the movie and I never thought the acting was atrocious it's not great but that was the charm of the movie I love the soundtrack the girls are hot it's just awesome
Yeh Lenzi was notorious on waffling 'who' actually directed this Kirkpatrick or whether he allowed screenwriter Kirkpatrick to accept credit. I tend to believe the former having seen most of Lenzi's horrorspoitation and it rarely looked this good. Great cast of genre familiars tho the killer 'such as it is' bears more then a passing resemblance to the motorcycle helmet clad psycho in Andrea Bianchi's Strip Nude for Your Killer and it's Americanized reworking Night School. Def has some giallo vibes when dealing with the stalking scenes. Great review as per norm DD 🤠
Yeah it has that Italian touch all over it.
the killer outfit is just badass
Agreed!
This one isn't too bad, another similar one that has that giallo feel is 1981's Night School which i think is pretty underrated.
That movie is AWESOME. The theme song is like the incredible hulk theme 🔥
I gotta check out Night School. I keep hearing about it in the comments.
Yes Yes Yes! Well done Lee, this is an epic slasher / giallo, love this movie, only watched it for the first time in late 2023, and just loved the movie, absolute classic.
Yeah it’s really unique!
I watched this over Spring Break this year. Loved it. Thought the reveal was lame though. The most giallo thing to me was how it used the killings to explore the corruption of authority. It's subtle, but this is technically an Easter slasher. BTW, Gail is one of the hottest chicks I've seen in a movie EVER. Those eyes and lips...
Yep! She’s a stunner.
I love B horror movies from the 80s and 90s. I recently got Night Life 1989 on DVD from a horror convention starring Scott Grimes and that was a pretty fun movie. It's like Re-Animator meets a John Hughes movie.
That sounds great!
A fav of mine. Framed poster on my wall
Holy shit that’s awesome!
Haha great review! Sarah Buxton and Rawley Valverde had been in quite a few things before this movie. Probably Buxton most notably, since she was in Less Than Zero a couple years before. John Saxon went totally left a year later and played a Lycanthropic lothario in My Mom's A Werewolf, which is a riot. Check that one out if you haven't seen it
Less than Zero is a classic!
@@DrumdumsOfficial absolutely!
Lee, if you haven't watched Lenzi's Giallo, Spasmo, I'd highly recommend! 😁
Thanks for the recommendation Katie!
Fun movie. Saw it last year on Amazon with my brother-in-law
Nice!
Man,
I gave it a try last night, and what can I say?
It's not a good movie, but it is awkward, fun and charming enough :D
I had a good time with it.
Cheers Lee!
Awesome Oskar!
Hey Mr. Lee
I just first time watched this movie
Before I saw your review
It's different for sure
The kills are electrifying
Haha indeed they are Polly 😂
A slasher movie that seems similar to A Nightmare On Elm Street except it’s still a unique slasher movie.
You should do top 10 worst years for horror films
Lance Legault who played the priest was agood friend of Elvis and also his stunt double in numerous films
That’s too cool.
Seen this few months ago liked it
Night school from 1981 also has a motorcycle helmet killer
@@jimmyrobinson1136 Just got the Blu-ray for Night School. Review coming!
I have never even heard of this but will try to find the American version; 80’s slashers can be fun even with bad acting.
By the way Lee awesome thumbnail
Thanks brother!
Lame acting but 80's cheese....which I personally;usually ❤️. It's amazing how many so-called B movies, that the GREAT John Saxon appeared in. Definitely could've used more blood & nudity to be "Giallo esque". The reveal sucks, but Lance Legualt - great voice....served him well in as the antagonist in many A-Team & Magnum P.I. episodes.
I was surprised by the lack of nudity in this.
Valerie ❤️
God I love Grapes!
I have a lot of fun with it
Definitely!
So I’m confused-on the set, what language were the actors that we SEE speaking? Like if I were to have walked onto the set while filming, were they saying their lines in English or Italian?
They were speaking English. But the acting was so bad I switched to Italian.
@@DrumdumsOfficial , OK, that’s what I thought. Sorry, it’s been a long weekend! Lol.
@drumdums this is about to get a 4k release in July from kino lorber
The Blu-ray looks stellar.
@@DrumdumsOfficial cool
The world is ending.
Something's amiss.
The Major and 👁 agree.
This cycle horror was mostly awesome.
It had giallo,jello and mystery.
It's the Eyes of Lee Tennant that will continue the fight.
Drinking out of his Pam Anderson Beer 🍺 Mug tonight.
A rock soundtrack, an electric killer and Hooters shining so bright.
On Memorial Day he rules the worldddddddddd.
It's The Eyes of Lee Tennant.
On Memorial Day my frenemy rules the worldddddddddddddd.
It's The Eyes of Lee Tennant.
Now I only saw the basic cable version that had little violence and no nudity.
But still it kept me entertained like a naughty Scooby Doo After Dark mystery.
It's the eyes of Lee Tennant that will continue the fight.
Even when the plot unravels.
The final girl with botox and implants grapples with the crazed repressed priest on some gravel.
Yet the Major will Red Bull, Sprite and Vodka to the endddddddddddddddddd.
It's the Eyes of Lee Tennant!!!!!!
I seen this on Tubi TV
Tubi rocks.
@@DrumdumsOfficial yeah definitely does seen lots of 80s movies there such as chopping Mall sleep away camp the burning
I liked this movie. I admit some of the acting is bad . But it was still fun .
Oh very
I pretty much like any slasher where a motorcycle helmet is involved.
Same
Jokes in another languages , very rarely translate well into English-speaking. I sometimes start on Dubbed English Ok it charming funny. However i always end up going back to original language, subtitles....completely different feel vibe. Spaghetti Westerns 🍝 are a perfect example.
Oh I'm the same. This is the rare exception where the action was so bad that I went with the dub.
That same two songs played 50 times over one of which sounds like blackie lawless should sue for copyright kill me. I didnt get the vibe that its not in english originally at all. There were times that the motorcycle killer looked like the size of estelle getty on that thing !
Daft Punk on a killing trip again. "Around the World" 😂
3:46 i think some people are just perfectly born for certain roles, a perfect example is david hess en last house (he literally was full method acting, never acted before) and his krug is 1000 times more effective than the krug from the remake which is literally a real actor (not saying he did a bad job, is just you cant compare both version, hess is the only one to ever play krug).
You are so right.
One have to appreciate the eighties way of doing things. Bikini girls, hair metal and splatter killings made on a decent budget? Unthinkable today.
Yep. You won’t get that today.
Same crew in primal rage from the year before I think and that’s way better honestly, not a slasher it’s like 28 days later
Now that's an interesting factoid.
I saw this movie eons ago on USA’s Up ⬆️ All Night. Rawley Valverde from Channel 1 news played one of the victims. Not really sure I liked watching people getting fried to death 💀
Ah I loved Up All Night!
Do you like transformers 2007 is it imaginative and elegantly made
Yeah I like it.
John Saxon lol
I still don't know if you like the movie or not LOL
Yes the beautiful brunette looks a lot like Ania Pieroni from Inferno and House By the Cemetery. There will always be work for women who look like that.
@@halwasserman7905 Yes she does!
I've never seen (or even heard of) this movie before, but for someone who has grown up in an overly religious household (luckily, not I, but I know some people who have) I bet the line "now stay out of my life and let me worry about my own soul!" Was SUCH an empowering line to hear, even if they couldn't say it out loud themselves 🥲
Haha true. It’s a thought provoking line for sure.
