    Wow, these were really close! 1dB will not be noticeable by most people, usually takes closer to 3dB to be able to "hear" the difference. Either way, fun and educational video. Great job!

      A 3db gain doubles the spl. 133 is twice as loud as 130db. But for a human ear to perceive a doubling of volume it requires a 9db gain, super odd!😊

      Running different size subs in the same box is the main concern possibly blowing out the weaker subs. Now if in separate boxes with different tuning you will cover a broader/larger frequency range which can help in a SQ setup.

    A lot of people with this exact idea in their mind could benefit from being subbed to your channel. I remember seeing this kind of question with 2x10 vs 1x12, and 2x12 vs 1x15, whether on the old forums or on FB groups. I enjoyed this video. I think for some it could boil down to their trunk and whether they want to sacrifice the length of their trunk and have a slimmer depth with a pair or have a square shaped single sub and still have half the trunk, or the height of a single 15 wouldn’t clear the trunk

    I have two 15” DDS SKAR subs couldn’t fit in my Caddy. Had to buy one single 12 tube by SKAR. Sounds loud and good but not the same. The 15’s not only sounded better, you actually feel the shaking of the subs and the car vibrates as well. The 12” woofer sounds good but no feeling behind it. 😢

    When I had my sub setup was running a single DC Audio Neo Elite 15" on a Dc Audio 5k soundlab in a ported box.
    It was awesome, had to upgrade the alternator, ran an extra yellowtop in the trunk, ran 8 guage from sub to amp & 2 guage throughout the vehicle. Could only bump hard for 10 mins before needing a cooldown 😢

  • @csj9619
    @csj9619 Год назад +3

    Great comparison Parker. Quite a few people have asked me this question over the years. One major advantage to a single sub is needing less power, equating to no need to upgrade charging system, which is a big expense.

    • @jimbobdobbs1597
      @jimbobdobbs1597 7 месяцев назад

      It all comes down to driver sensitivity response. It seems everyone (these days) equates a huge motor and stiff suspension to a BETTER driver.. and really if you want to get loud w/o upgrading you charging system, you need 1) and efficient amp that has a low distortion factor, 2) a SENSITIVE sub that matches the output parameters of that amp, 3) a complimentary enclosure that works with that sub to reproduce the type of result you are going for.
      What a lot off people fail to recognize, is you can have LOUD bass response in a relatively low bandwidth range, OR musicality in a wider range of response, but you are going to lose that little range of boost where you would be tuning that boost.
      Soo many times i built an awesome setup, only to find that some songs just made ya tear up with how great it sounded, but play a different track and it sounds like a kid whacking a bucket with a stick

    3 10"s vs 2 12"s vs 1 15", all the same EVL or same line from whatever brand(deaf bounce, sundown, incriminator, SKAR). Which setup gets the best bang/boom for your buck. Of course all 3 setups matched to cubic feet & RMS watts in the same vehicle. So for instance would 2 skar evl 10's hit harder than 2 12" evl's or 1 15"??? Or maybe swap the 15" for a 18" but not everybody can run a 18 so the 15 may still be a better choice.
    I'm trying to decide which way to go now myself. Im currently running a single Memphis mojo pro 12" in a skar 2.0cft box on a skar rp.1200 @4ohms(500watts). Im trying to figure my next move & running the 2 12's side by side wont work in my Acura TSX. So do i run 1 deaf bounce 3512 in a 2.65cft box, add another skar single box with another Memphis Mojo Pro or up size to a 15" skar evl in a 3.15cft box???? Im very happy with the single mojo pro but of course i want more bass😂😂😂

    Why not use 2 evl 12s and 1 evl 15? The question here is which setup is louder. 2 12s or 1 15. Using sdr vs evl isn’t really a good comparison. It would make perfect sense if that evl is louder than those sdrs. I’m interested to see the outcome! 1:13

    Technically two 12s have more cone area, but since you went with cheaper 12s this results make sense.
    Another idea would be the old square vs round sub debate. Thanks for the videos!
    Cone area = pi x (r x r)
    pi = 3.14 r = radius of sub
    One 8" = 50.27
    One 10" = 78.54
    One 12" = 113.1
    One 15" = 176.71
    One 18" = 254.47
    Two 8" = 100.53
    Two 10" = 157.08
    Two 12" = 226.19
    Two 15" = 353.43
    Two 18" = 508.94
    Three 8" = 150.8
    Three 10" = 235.62
    Three 12" = 339.29
    Three 15" = 530.14
    Three 18" = 763.41
    Four 8" = 201.06
    Four 10" = 314.16
    Four 12" = 452.39
    Four 15" = 706.86
    Four 18" = 1017.87

    When you say clipping is that the amp clipping or the subs bottoming out on excursion? If it's the amp clipping was the nominal impedence of both subs the same? Based on the impedence reading from the SMD it looked like the 12s were wired to 1 Ohm whereas the 15 looked to be 2 Ohm. That would explain the difference in power achieved.

    Also depends on what you are looking for. What kind of music do you mostly listen to.
    Fast moving bass or lower frequency slower bass. If accuracy matters to you maybe the 12”s are a better choice. Personally in my experience, 15’s hit the low frequencies with ease and smoother than 12’s. Yes there are so many different variations. I have a SQ system. I run two 12’s in the back and one ten in the front footwell. 12’s produce the lower frequencies and the 10 gives me the fast accurate chest punch that compliments my 8” mid bass perfectly.
    Crossovers are
    Rear 12’s are 0-50hz
    Front 10 is 50-100hz
    8” midbass 100-270hz
    3.5” mid 270-3850hz
    1”Tweeter 3850-20khz
    Use a Helix DSP ultra.

    The single 15" was Louder, than the (2)- 12", with less power @ every freq., below 45 Hz! Then @ 45 Hz the (2)- 12" were only 1/2 Db louder than the single 15", but it took 334 more watts to do so. The more fair, cone area wise comparison, would have been (1)- 18" D2 Zvx, vs (2)- 12" D4 Sdr's, 254 sq. In. Vs 226 sq. In. Of cone area. Put both in a 5 Cu. Ft. Net enclosure, tuned @ 30 Hz, with both having 70 sq. In. Of port area. This would be really Awesome to see!

  • @happys104092243

    Putting 5k watts to SDR that are only around 600 watt RMS each. The 15" is around 1250 watt RMS. Should be using the same line up. Not a low end to a higher end

    There's no replacement for displacement, you test is null if the xmax of the 15 exceeded both x max of the 12s

    You’ll notice especially with how hard they hit. I’d take 2 12’s over 1 15 but it depends on the vehicle. I do like the idea of 1 15 tho

    15” is more efficient for essentially the same dB. Less power and more equal across the frequencies.
