- In this video I try to beat Terraria using swords only! The rules are that I can't kill enemies unless I have a sword equipped and also accidental hits will not count which means that if I'm chopping down a tree and I hit a slime with my axe that would be considered as an accidental hit.
With the new and recent 1.4.4 update for terraria with swords being reworked. I've decided to revisit a challenge that I've done in the past. Can I beat Terraria using swords only? Hope you all enjoy.

Love how you skipped the Queen Bee in pre-hardmode so she just came for revenge with Plantera.
that should be a thing with bosses, if you dont beat them in order, they come back later but much stronger.

Its similar to the calamity mod where the bosses you dont defeat become stronger like Yaron the Jungle Dragon becomes Yaron The Universal dragon etc (idr the name of the future Yaron version :/)

Using Shimmer to reforge might just be one of the smartest uses I've seen
its gonna get nerfed in next updates
also it was possible to get good reforges by selling and buying same item now npc sold items have no reforges

I have only used swords since the 1st day I played terraria
I’ve tried getting into other classes but imma be honest, the hilarity of someone, a mortal man, just standing and getting hit by cosmic horrors while hitting harder than a drunken father on a bad day is just… amazing

I never knew you could use the magic mirror to dodge the phantasmal death ray until now. Just goes to show that there is always more to learn!
you can also use the hook of dissonance since it teleports you through the ray, but it requires a bit of finesse. you can use it to easily dodge martian saucer ray as well

Autoswing has now become a built in feature for all weapons so feral claws is not as good as it used to be, but it’s still useful if you don’t have any other accessories
Melee speed boost is decent if you consider the terra blade (albeit it already autoswings) now releases its wave attack every swing so being able to swing it faster means even more waves meaning a boost to damage especially since they also tweaked how i-frames work for certain attack types.
I think most sword reworks are also influenced by melee speed

12:28 Tip for saving time: Reverse craft the old chlorophyte armor in the shimmering water into bars to make turtle armor. Found that out myself on a playthrough :)

I feel like this is the first time someone used gladius as a sword for terraria progression
I’ve started a master mode true melee challenge too! with special rules like waiting til post skeletron to get the bee keeper or volcano, and no star fury. although what I’m doing is less of a true melee playthrough and more of a “no yo-yo, boomerang, knife, or projectile abuse” melee playthrough. I look forward to seeing how far I’ll get

btw if you throw a heart crystal in the shimmer you will gain a permanent regen buff (i don’t know if you did this later on in the video)
I think that they might have removed the fake sword shrines in 1.4.4, along with adding an autoswing option in the settings.

reminder that you can get terra blade preplantera by killing a jungle mimic for a terra toilet and using shimmer to get the terra blade from it

My friend and I are doing this but we took a step further.
So we’re Pokémon fans and couldn’t help but see Zacian with the new wolf mount. So we’re doing what we call the Zacian challenge. We use the wolf mount for the entire game and we can only use swords and we’re doing it in master mode. It’s been pretty fun so far the mechs have been a struggle.

@@MTRBR-mp7wj ???? It is a new feature for the settings. Autoswing has always been exclusive to gauntlet upgrades and certain weapons. Now it's just in the settings

One thing not mentioned here is how the True Nights Edge and True Excalibur get stronger depending on if it is night or day.

I've been doing that so far in a master world, i just got to handmade in my world, I got the bananarang, so I'm not sure if I'll still continue just using swords, but I haven't fought a mech boss yet, so not sure
I am really sattisfied with the Night Edge Change (The True Nights Edge is awesome too)
turned Melee class pre hardmode to being stupidly hard to actually being one of the best against Wall of Flesh, and not being in disadvantage against the start of hardmode

Haven't played terraria in a long time but I remember having to farm so hard for three broken hero sword to craft the Terra blade, and this was before the solar tablet and stuff so I had to rely on chance. Its nice that they made it easier to craft not having to need three broken hero sword.

Best option for the plantera if you happen to find yourself a railroad underground use it. Plantera is slow at obstacles minecarts can also do additional damage while going melee
For those who didn't know yet, in 1.4.4 they added a new feature that enables auto swing on all weapons in the settings.
BRUH I DIDNT KNOW THAT
I guess I don't fully understand what that means cause I have swords that are single swing... I enable auto swing in settings and it still just single swings, requires button mashing.... There are other swords that are auto swing (hold down the button and it keeps swinging) but from my experience auto swing does not apply to all weapons, so feral claws is still necessary for some. I play on mobile.

I've been playing through like this in a multiplayer world and it's crazy how powerful and fun swords are, even in pre-hardmode.
i nearly have the nights edge and i’m finding the volcano sword super op
@@redlny9038 the sheer amount of crowd control the volcano puts out is amazing, farming blood moons or repelling goblin armies is even easier with it

@@redlny9038 You need the Muramasa from the dungeon to craft the night's edge, so you need to defeat skeletron first

It's because it's literally just melee class, I've done it many times even in master mode. It not very hard at all

To be honest it's much easier to beat the moonlord with a terra blade than pre hardmode bosses with pre hard mode swords (king slime excluded)
@@poitre_ ngl I kinda disagree because you are at less risk with the enemy to health to damage ratio being so different
@@eddie6395 but the terrablade shoots relatively fast projectiles and quite powerful at that. The dps you can do with a pre hard mode sword to any respective pre hardmode boss Is not not that high and each time you're going to inflict damage you'll have to get dangerously close and quite possibly get damage. Wall of flesh Is the only exception as it's trend Is stable and constant, and the fiery great sword Is a bit overpowerade compared to its hp, plus the hungries can get knocked back).
The moonlord has crazy HP compared to even late hard mode bosses and he can regenerate but you could hit him constantly with a terrablade which Is actually a ranged weapon in disguise.
With a pre hardmode boss you'd have to paly extremely safely, possibly going out of time if not dead already
They should replace the auto swing thing on the feral claws to something useful. Like some sort of small slash tic effect or something

I think the claws are still useful, as they provide autoswing *only* for melee weapons. So there's the choice between autoswing for everything, including guns, bows, magic, etc
versus only swords/whips
with the obvious fact of course they lead into the "Glove" accessories for Melee weapons
@@itsClaptrap no there is no arguement on that. Having auto swing on an item is now pointless. When you have a setting that does that
@@hiddenblaze it boosts melee swing speed, something that auto swing doesn't do
sure it makes everything full auto, but that's not all Feral Claws do, they still boost melee speed, that still makes them viable enough though.
again, feral claws are just the start of the glove accessory line, so they're not *great* but they're still a must if one is choosing a melee/summoner build
@@itsClaptrap i can get swing speed from other things too. Remove the auto swing buff on the claws and they will be useful. Them and the things that are made down the line with em.

How badly would swords fail against the eater of worlds? I can't imagine that would go very well (with appropriate items of course, nothing after the EoW)
swords arent bad for eow its better than most classes cause it has pierce
eow is kinda easy? even in master mode you can still just tank the body and hold left click
i cheesed the EOW by using 2 eater of souls banner, slime mount, all placeable regeneration and sunflowers, and blade of grass. its pretty cheesy

this lets you autoswing (any weapon) like how feral claws do.
