....why does such an hardcore offroader have to be so long??! it can help a lot by being a lot more compact! I can't imagine anyone wanting to take an entire family for such hardcore offroading (which is what the design of this car seems to be suggesting!?)

Doesn't need to be used only for hardcore OTRs. It is a brilliant trail drive platform. In real world conditions, when you come across an obstacle while overlanding, you can usually drive around it rather than try to drive over it. The LWB still has impressive ground clearance, approach, departure and ramp-over specifications. Family of 4 + dog and picnic hamper is what this vehicle is designed for.
