I think this interview took place in some time between his 12 A.M. concert in St-Petersburgh and 7 P.M. concert in Tokyo

That's one of the best answers to the question of what one would ask Mahler---please conduct one of your symphonies. I'd extend that to say---please conduct anything you want. Beethoven, Wagner, Schubert, Mozart, Tchaikovsky. I can't imagine what that experience would be like, but it would be unequivocally special.

I don't like him. It was a TERRIBLE choice to make him chief conductor of the Munich Phil. His conducting style is terrible and it shows in the performances and the recordings. The Munich Phil. were a top orchestra under Celibidache and Maazel. Now, they are only average. Munich Phil. should have picked Nelsons. He would have been a perfect pick.

The "Gewandhausorchester Leipzig" is better for Nelsons, because it is one of the best romantic orchestras in Germany. And Nelsons is a great romantic conductor.

His Bruckner with the Munich PO is good, sometimes absolutely great, I love his recording of Bruckner 7.

@@lydiahuynh4815 me too. I can't even listen to Celibidache's version after that. BUT knowing Gergiev's attitude to rehearsals, I can only imagine how many concerts it took him to learn the score ( yeah CONCERTS, because he doesn't have time to rehearse). At first it's played somewhere in Russian province , where public isn't that critical , so you can even play it backward as long as you're Gergiev. After a few tries in Russia , he needs a few more with Munich PO , cz it's another orchestra and they rehearse an hour before the concert ( at the best case ). And finally after N sloppy performances it comes to the level, to make a record.
So you always have to come at Gergiev's 6-7th attempt, then you'll never get disappointed.

SORRY, BUT I'M NOT INTERESTED IN THIS - GERGIEV COMPLETELY LACKS THE MORAL AUTHORITY TO COMMENT ON, LET ALONE CONDUCT, GUSTAV MAHLER OR ANY OTHER COMPOSER -- ESPECIALLY RUSSIAN COMPOSERS, SOME OF WHO WERE BORN IN THE UKRAINE, AND WHO WOULD ALL BE APPALLED AT WHAT'S HAPPENING.
