  • 6/4/2016 - Rochelle Railroad Days, also known as Rochelle Railfan Appreciation Days, rolls around again for the year of 2016! Rochelle, Illinois has always been an amazing to railfan, and Railroad Days was the perfect opportunity to film some more videos. Union Pacific 1989 (Rio Grande Heritage) and UP 2001 (Olympic Torch Relay) were parked just outside the railroad park and they were truly a treat to see! It was a very good day of railfanning as well, and here are the descriptions of the trains I caught:
    Train 1 (1:25): UP SD70ACe #8465 w/ NS Power leads a tanker train
    Train 2 (4:57): UP ES44AC #8205 leads an autorack train with a DPU
    Train 3 (6:48): BNSF ES44DC #7522 leads a Z-train
    Train 4 (10:42): UP ES44AC #8164 leads an intermodal train by UP SD70M #2001 (Olympic Torch Relay)
    Train 5 (13:10): UP ES44DC #5442 leads an intermodal train by UP SD70ACe #1989 (Rio Grande Heritage)
    Train 6 (15:52): UP SD70M #4147 leads an autorack train meeting the intermodal by UP #1989.
    Train 7 (19:04): BNSF ET44C4 leads an intermodal train
    Train 8 (22:47): UP AC4400CW #6748 (Dedication Plaque Unit) leads an intermodal with an EPIC hornshow (featuring 100% less tripod failure)
    Train 9 (26:06): UP SD70ACe #8495 leads a coal train with UNPATCHED SP AC4400CW #343 as loco 2 of 3.
    Train 10 (28:41): BNSF ET44C4 #3775 leads a Z-train
    Train 11 (31:45): BNSF C44-9W #5141 leads a Z-train
    Train 12 (34:08): UP SD70M #5198 leading a manifest train waits to cross the diamond alongside SD70ACe #9026 with a Z-train. Then, #5198 sits in Global 3 as a Z-train passes it.
    Train 13 (34:16): UP AC45CCTE leads a short Z-train through and out of Global 3
    Train 14 (35:19): UP SD40N #1919 and GP38-2 #737 do yard work just outside Global 3.
    Train 15 (37:47): BNSF ES44DC #7555 leads a Z-train
    It was an amazing day out with my friends and other railfans who came to enjoy Railroad Days! Rochelle, Illinois is always recommended by me for train viewing/photography/etc.

      SAFETY
      Union Pacific Railroad and Operation Lifesaver Urge Professional Photographers to Stay Safe, Stay Away From Train Tracks
      OMAHA, NEB., APRIL 16, 2013
      As warmer weather arrives, Union Pacific Railroad and Operation Lifesaver, the rail safety education nonprofit organization, are urging professional photographers to refrain from taking photos of high school seniors, wedding parties, and other subjects on train tracks or trestles.
      Last year, more than 800 people were injured or killed while trespassing on railroad property in the U.S., according to preliminary Federal Railroad Administration statistics.
      "As part of our UP CARES initiative, we want to remind photographers that walking on or near railroad tracks is extremely dangerous because you never know when a train will come along," said Dale Bray, Union Pacific director - public safety. "We urge professional and amateur photographers alike to set the right example for others by adhering to the safety guidelines."
      A teacher that taught art, along with photography, was struck and killed by a train while taking photos on the tracks late in 2012. In response to tragic and preventable incidents like this, Operation Lifesaver (www.oli.org) has worked with Professional Photographers of America on rail safety education outreach to the professional photographer community.
      "Trackside settings have become popular for senior, wedding, and family portraits. But photographers need to know the laws and the safety ramifications of staging a photo shoot near train tracks," said David Trust, chief executive officer of Professional Photographers of America (PPA). "PPA applauds Operation Lifesaver programs that educate photographers about the danger to themselves and their clients of working near tracks."
      Union Pacific is committed to public safety through various outreach channels such as community events, media outreach, law enforcement partnerships, employee resource groups and Operation Lifesaver. The UP CARES (Union Pacific Crossing Accident Reduction Education and Safety) public safety initiative brings together communities in a collaborative and caring effort to promote railroad grade crossing and pedestrian safety.
      UP CARES activities include:
      Grade crossing enforcement with local, county and state law enforcement agencies;
      Safety trains that provide local officials a firsthand look at what locomotive engineers see daily while they operate trains through a community and
      Communication blitzes that educate the community at events or media outreach.
      Operation Lifesaver has six "must-know" tips for professional photographers considering a photo shoot near the tracks:
      1. Trains can't stop quickly to avoid people or vehicles on the tracks.
      2. An optical illusion makes it hard to determine a train's distance from you - and its speed.
      3. The average train overhangs the track by at least three feet.
      4. Railroad tracks, trestles, yards and rights-of-way are private property.
      5. No tracks should be assumed to be abandoned or inactive.
      6. People in your community mimic your behavior.
      About Operation Lifesaver
      Operation Lifesaver's mission is to end collisions, deaths and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and along railroad rights of way. Too many houses by the tracks=can't sleep=noise complaints=quiet zone. Yup.

    • @RunninEight
      @RunninEight  8 лет назад

      That and businesses near the tracks that have "noise sensitive" jobs or something. Makes you wonder why you would put said business near the tracks... That goes for people too, if you don't like train noise, why'd you buy a house near the tracks?

    • @TrainsNStuff
      @TrainsNStuff 8 лет назад

      Exactly! But maybe they didn't have a great place to live and that was all they could afford. Houses by tracks are usually cheaper than ones not, at least in Oregon.

    Some nice video. However, as a former railroad Employee (Not BNSF or UP), I would encourage you and many of the other folks Seen in this video, to Please Stay off Of RAILROAD Property.Yeah, I know a lot of folks don't like hearing that. But, you have never dealt with the fatalities of trespassers. I have and it is not something anyone should have to go through or their surviving families.

    Railfan Rule No 1. Be Safe! It's not a good idea to stand on the train tracks or even be near them. If you realize how dangerous it is I would suggest you edit your video. Do not upload any more videos with this because you are displaying it to the public and they may take it for granted that this kind of behavior is normal when it is actually unsafe. Never put yourself at risk. I would research rail safety tips from the big companies if I was you so you can be abreast of how to stay safe near railroad tracks. They don't blow those VERY NOISY horns for nothing you know!
