I’m just glad this was the short version of this story. That voice is so grating! It would definitely make me…cranky…if I had to listen to it for very long!
You should avoid the recording of James Joyce reading Finnegans Wake, because it's the same vibe (just not as loud). If I was going to have run a haunted house, I wouldn't play the usual spook sounds and wolf howls, I'd play THAT because it's a lot creepier.
Sounds like a black and white movie part taken out of a speech given by a political figure about war. Simple enough. Usually ill block things out as white noise.

Omg! I thought I was the only weirdo out here! I listen to this poem regularly. I LOVE it. I have no delusion that I could handle it as it is delivered for sears training, I would probably lose it and in a psychotic rage tear everyone in my immediate vicinity to pieces. However, I love listening to this on my own terms, it focuses me, and gives me strength. 😳💪

When it came on, my ears and spine literally started tingling. I don't think I would go crazy unless I listened to it for a long time, but still
Oddly enough, I adore the poem. Kipling was fond of describing the true horrors of war in his poetry, and 'Boots' evokes the endless regimented trudge of soldiers' feet, and the monotony of spending ages in a foreign land where 'there's no discharge in the war.' The scarier thing is in the way it's said, not the words themselves. 'I have marched six weeks in 'Ell and an' certify/ It is not fire, devils, dark or anything. But boots...' This simplification of the endlessness of war is the true horror of it. Credit to the SERE instructors to finding this horrific recording (by American actor Taylor Holmes), and for using it in the first place. Very apt, and very spooky.

I’m the youngest of 4 and always thought my childhood could’ve helped me in the military if I had gone. My siblings did something similar to this, they taped me to a chair (blindfolded) and turned on “Fantasia” with an automatically rewinding VHS player…. After a couple hours I just zoned out hahah

Ive been through it and even though it happened 8 years ago, i still could feel the anxiety attack about to happen. I never broke, but damn if it doesn't put you close to the edge.
