- The stage in Illinois State University’s Braden Auditorium will be the setting for the live television broadcast of a gubernatorial debate between Democratic Governor JB Pritzker and Republican challenger Darren Bailey at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 6.
The debate will be hosted by Nexstar Media Group and presented by AARP and Illinois State University. The event will be televised live on Nexstar affiliates throughout the state including Central Illinois’ WMBD-TV, radio broadcast on NPR affiliates WGLT and WCBU, and will be covered by La Voz, the Spanish-language section of the Chicago Sun-Times.

These debates are terrible..30 seconds closing statements?...our politics have become nothing but sound bites and one liners...all of this is geared towards the lowest denominator and people who have zero attention spans. Pretty embarrassing.

JB's 30 seconds were full of examples of positive changes he brought to the state - its a debate format that you need skill in order to navigate, and I think the governor showed that.

We need to ignore them and realize the status quo isn't and never has worked, and this state needs a change. And a radical one. Voting for the incumbent is the one choice guaranteeing that'll never happen.
@@hiramnoone I get that and I agree with you! I think the one thing that I give the current system credit for is that change comes slowly in it. Even if you need to tear the whole thing down and start over, if that change happens too quickly there will be people who are hurt in the transition if it happens too quickly (I'm not ignoring the people who are hurt *by* the system changing too slowly, that's still a huge problem) but if a leader makes the wrong choices, a slower system allows the people to course correct before things go too far down the wrong road. It also keeps things from completely falling apart and needing to start from square 1 every few years.
Thats just my opinion though; what are your thoughts?
I think we can all agree that what we actually see in Illinois is increased taxes, increased gas prices, increased consumer product prices, and record gun violence in Chicago. I don't know if Bailey is the answer but I do know that Pritzker is not the answer.

All I heard from Bailey is that if he is governor issues of abortion or banning assault rifles - he has no opinion and decisions will be made by the general assembly. And all other issues he is going back to repeal them and meet with all people. It sounds like he is lying about his thoughts on abortion and assault rifles reform as he wants to end abortion and not ban assault rifles - but he doesn’t want to say anything as he wants votes. And repealing all other issues and meeting with all people - guess what - they already did that and made changes. I think Bailey has no clue how to run the state esp. Chicago!

I'm a CPA in Illinois and Pritzker is full of crap. No middle income people I've prepped taxes for have had their income taxes lowered.

My family and I are from Chicago, grandparents came there when they immigrated 50 years ago and we've spent decades building our lives in that great city. Unfortunately, due to the crazy cost of living, taxes, and crime, all but two family members have moved out of the state. So sad to see this wonderful place self destruct

And finally, someone who doesn't just complain about a problem but actually gets up and does something about it. He isn't afraid to take on the "establishment" and call a spade a spade.

What we really need to do is sit down, see where all these funds are really going and reallocate resources. The most funded schools in IL are inner city public schools in Chicago and they are some of the worst performing. Hence throwing money at a problem doesn’t fix it. So the whole “sit down at the table” is just a term of seeing how the money is being spent and resource it better.

Exactly, it's not about volume or "well maybe" the public didn't like it. The guy literally restricted dining, putting costs over head crushing small businesses. Kind of hard to stay open if you can't have anyone come into eat or shop. Then his bail outs, yeah I applied and never saw a dime for my business. Lucky I have customers that really helped being mobile instead of a shop. Guy also kept kids masks for two years when in that two years more kids died from obesity than Covid. He's ass backwards about everything, another reason we're ranked in the bottom 5 states to start a business.

Lower taxes gives us more money on our checks. Lower the overtime tax too. Raising minimum wage increases prices of goods. It does not take away from over paid CEOs like they claim. When you pay for college or guarantee student loans the universities bump their pay checks and make expansions not lower costs of tuition. If you tax the rich they leave the state. That is a fact that happens now. The FOID card doesn't stop anything. We already have background checks. FOID is a money scheme that hurts people who don't have a lot of money. The 2nd ammendment says shall not be infringed. Banning guns will not stop criminals from shooting people. Many people will flee this state if you ban modern sporting rifles. Unions donate to democrats and that is a conflict of interest when they push for more unions.
Taxing the rich has always been a winning democrap talking point to get votes but a losing governmental strategy. Everybody thinks the rich are greedy and deserve a tax bump right? Yet you look around here and at other blue states and you see what? Cripplingly high taxes on the working class, politically corrupt crime ridden shyte hole cities run by unaccountable fiat and decree authoritarians, with rich mayors, corrupt city councils (also with their pockets lined) and super rich billionaire governors.

@Candy_Lady_12 and many gang members will be released without even having to post bond under the PFA. Risk assessments are a joke. The Virginia one is completely laughable. To believe that you can establish assessments across the board that do not consider the characteristics of the character of specific individuals is foolishness. The PFA violates the Illinois constitution. It makes it easier for people committing felonies to get out and stay out while making it more difficult for low level offender to get out expeditiously as they are under the current system through either nominal bond amounts, releases on recognizance bonds, or notices to appear. Officers will not be issuing summonses as stated in the PFA (something legally impossible to do since by definition only courts can do so) for people committing offenses involving inherent fly dangerous activities or victims as the legislature and the left continues to call of them racist bigots and try to take away any and all immunity for simply enforcing the law. So instead of posting $100 bond upon arrest and being released immediately, those low level offenders will have to wait until court is next in session and therefore sit in jail longer.
So that those of privilege can commit crimes and then walk when Daddy puts up the money! That is Bullshit!
