    I'm new to this. What I don't understand is whether or not the image has to be sealed onto the actual mug? How long does the glue on the backside of the decal last? Does that make sense?? LOL Once I've adhered the decal to the mug, do I need to go back and cover the mug AND decal with something like mod podge or will the decal stay in place? Thank you so much for sharing!

    • @AlisonCrafts
      @AlisonCrafts  4 года назад +1

      you have to seal the image on the paper if you have an inkjet printer. This type of decal gets submerged in water so it needs to be sealed so the ink doesn't run. Once it is on the surface it will not move once it is dry. It just needs to be sealed with Brite Tone after it is on the cup for extra protection. I seal with Brite Tone after it dries on the cup for 24 hours.

    Alison, I am trying to add waterslides in a custom bike paint project. I am working with solvent based paint and clearcoat (polyurethane clear). Hayes Paper say acrylic clear coat. Can I successfully us polyurethane clear coat? I tried it and failed. I printed the decals using a color laser printer 2 days ago (they look GREAT on the Hayes Paper). Then clear coated 3 light coats last night using an airbrush, and this morning applied my test decals to pvc pike (simulates bike tube). The color immediately came off the waterslide. So it didn't work at all. Not sure if I have a bad chemical reaction using urethane or what. The urethane can be sanded in 20 minutes, so I would think my issue was not drying time. Any thoughts?

      No it is not recommended. It's crappy and yellows over time. Not a good product.

    One thing is that you need a sterile environment. Airborne dust and debris will clean to it no matter on how much you try to keep it clean.
