- Surprise! I teamed up with D Day World War II Veteran Jim "Pee Wee" Martin (G/506) & Hunter Jergens to write NORMANDY - a song about Jim's experience being a paratrooper on D Day in Normandy, France. I had the honor of playing his 100th Birthday party in Ohio & we became friends. Then we traveled to Ohio to sit with him in the sun & turn some of his life into song. We wanted to share his story through song on the 4th of July to celebrate freedom! Help me in thanking Jim Martin for his service today & comment & share the video! NORMANDY
He said he was 101st first to fight
On the 6th of June
To save the world that night
1944
Never fought before
Just teenage boys all geared up
Ready to win that war
We sat outside his hand built home
And he told me about his life
100 years old
Remembrin' every moment of that fight
He said, “In the morning,
The storms rolled in
It was completely silent
Jumpin’ into open fire”
Explosion one continuous flame
Musta been a hell of a sight to see

He said, “That’s another thing
They don’t understand
We had to win the war or risk losing this free land”
We sat outside his hand built home
And he turned on the porch light
I asked him if he would do it again?
And he said “You’re damn right”
In the morning
The storms rolled in

Good song. Such a shame our younger generation is not being taught about this great generation and they are so against what this great experiment has done for freedom around the globe. They will realize when it is too late.

Thank you for this song in honor of Jim, and all who were there that day. My uncle Tony was a pharmacist's mate on the U.S.S. Moffett caring for the wounded, and the things he told me about it makes me wonder how anyone can come home from a war sane. It kind of makes me mad that so many had to sacrifice so much - in many cases, their very lives - all because a madman was bent on world domination. We should honor them, and thank them, every day.
