Thanks for watching the video! This is my first cooking video, but I had a blast making it and hope you enjoyed watching it! Have you ever had gyudon before? Do you think you'll try making this at home? Let me know, can't wait to hear back from you!
Loved watching this on the other channel. It's easier when you take your time as well as we at home salivating over the food cooking and wishing we could smell. Thanks for sharing Ken and Nancy
Thank you Jackie! It's always so fun seeing you here and over on Twitch! We're always happy to share and if you ever decide to give this recipe a try, please let us know!
I love your cooking and i can't believe this was your first. I lived in Japan for a few years and I will definitely make this. Looking forward to you next one!
Wow, thanks so much! Absolutely appreciate your comment! I'm sure this gyudon recipe will satisfy your cravings! I've got a lot more Japanese recipes coming out soon, so stay tuned! By the way, where in Japan were you staying?
@@StraightUpEats Thanks for the reply! I lived in Okinawa, Fukuoka, and Hachinohe. I have visited Tokyo, Osaka/Kobe/Kyoto and Sapporo. Wonderful country, terrific food, beautiful people. Excited to see your new content!
Sounds like you've been all over! It must have been a slice of paradise out in Okinawa! I haven't been yet, but hopefully will soon! Do you see yourself moving back to Japan? Yes, the food is great and I really want to be able to share as much of it as I can with wonderful folk like you! I've got more videos in the pipeline, so I hope you enjoy them as well!
I love Japan and look forward to moving back for work one day. If you go to Okinawa, you must try the Okinawan soba, goya (bitter melon), and Blue Seal Ice Cream:)
Will do, thank you so much for the recommendations! We have a few Okinawan cuisine restaurants here in Osaka. Some even have live bands that play Okinawan folk songs. But I don't think it'll be anything compared to truly being on the island! By the way, are there any particular foods that you'd like to see a recipe of? I'm sure being out of Japan, you have cravings for certain foods that you just can't seem to find and are forced to make yourself. I'd love to help you out and bring you some recipes that will really satisfy your cravings!
Thanks a ton for watching and commenting, Nick! I had a ton of fun making it and I think this will fix any of your gyudon cravings! Did you eat much gyudon in Japan?
@@StraightUpEats yes I love yoshinoya and it is such an easy dish to create for a weekday dinner! Heat up a pot of miso soup, throw in some tofu and seaweed and a satisfying meal is complete. Keep it up, looking forward to more recipe videos! Cheers from SG

tempura with an amazing dipping sauce please now this is really difficult especially the light batter I can't master!!!!!! The other dons I like require minimal to no cooking I like my sashimi very much.

I already know what to cook tomorrow after shopping some beef😍 looks delicious and as I combine the ingredients in my mind, it must taste heavenly 🤤 Thanks for sharing that recipe, specially the secret ingredient, really looking forward to cook it. I will use 2 regular onions for that amount haha XD have a wonderful weekend ^^/ Oh BTW, looove that Daruma cooking apron, need one in my life too XD
Hello Plejade, thanks so much for watching and so good to see you again! Yes, I have been away for a bit, but hopefully this will be the last time for such an absence, but I am happy that I could make a video that you enjoyed! Also, I didn't think the onions were that big here in Japan! Now I'm curious how big they are where you're from! Please let me know how it comes out! but isn't mentsuyu basically the shouyu - mirin - sake combination? doesn't it seem a bit redundant? i dont know where to find mentsuyu but i do have the others
Hi Redi, great question! Yes, Mentsuyu is basically those ingredients, plus dashi usually. The goal is to bump up the umami as much as possible. If you don't have mentsuyu, you can definitely omit it entirely!
Hello! I noticed what you say in the video in regards to the ingredients are different amounts from what's written on your website. You wrote 1 tbsp each of mirin and sake but in the video you said 1 tsp each. As for sugar you said 1 and 1/2 tsp but wrote 1 tbsp. As for dashi stock, you said 3 tbsp but wrote 1/4 cup of dashi powder. What do I follow? I wanna make this tomorrow but want to be correct with measurements. Thanks, love you and Mrs. Eat's personalities :) Found you two from Reddit!!
I made this last night using the written recipe from the website and it was amazing! I doubled the recipe to feed me and my boyfriend who is a big eater and he raved about it!
