A great fishing fly for the month of September this will bring fish from nowhere. I like to fish this fly as part of a team of three or even four flies on a long leader. Usually from 18' - 22'. A great option when the fish are feeding high in the water but refusing the dry fly.

I agree one of the best choices for the latter end of the season claret is a great base colour. The legs can be orange, claret, red or black. The combination of hen supported by cock hackle gives the hen more movement and a bubble veil around the body. I often use one on top and point with smaller palmers like a normal Kate Mac, a claret body Kate, or my go to Claret and Amber with an extra white or partridge hackle at the head.
They will all give good sport.
Great pattern, Mr Simpson. I have been going to ask why do you run your hackle counter to your thread wraps? I have tied for 45 years and taught may tying classes with many tiers, but you are the only one i have seen using this technique. I am going to try it next time i sit down at my desk. 😎
I am self taught Todd, I never thought of doing it any other way. If you had not pointed it out I would never have known. 👍
@lindsayiflyfish you are one great teacher if you are self-taught. Awesome results every time. Thanks for all you do for the sport.
Wee tip I learned, I can't for the life of me remember where or who, but if your struggling with dubbing, have a stamp glue moistener on your desk. If you wet your fingers a touch it will cause the fur to cling with the moisture on it and behave. As it's not waxed you can still slide the noodle up and down. Works for me on really nasty stuff.
That’s a great tip thanks for sharing it 👍

@@lindsayiflyfish no problem, better to share knowledge than keep it to myself.
One benefit to doing it with the stamp moistener, as opposed to saliva (or baby wipes), is that saliva is hydrophilic. So if your tying dries it won't help the natural buoyancy of the fly. Water alone will evaporate off leaving no residues that will waterlog the fly later on.
