I sure like the fly tying alot. there are numerous flies to learn from. Time to level up my experience. Thanks to all whom contribute to this series!!!! 5 stars
Nice egg pattern. Looks great when wet. Your videos are keeping me very busy. My Montana buddies will die when then they see my fly boxes filled with your flies. Keep up the good work.
if you want it to look "prettier" on the tied end, just paint the thread with a similar color of the hook and then make some wraps over the flared yarn, whip finish and super glue.
I'm definitely trying this today! For some reason, I can't master the basic egg pattern, as my yarn gets all stringy and thin when I make my cut (even using the straw method). This might be easier for me. Plus, the glue seems to make it all more robust. Thanks!
yay for rocky mountain browns =) Eastern Idaho is a magnificent area! I'd live there in the west shadow of the Tetons if I could live anywhere besides under Mt Timpanogos Utah.
Really nice, as always. Can you tell me which whipping tool you use? I like how sturdy your working portion is, the one I'm using not nearly as thick or sturdy, and I understand that that are applications for both thick and thinner. As always, thank you. Nick in Redfield Arkansas.
Thank you! I love to fish these from November until about March. Anytime around a trout spawn is a great time. There are other fish spawning too during other months but fishing one of these flies on a tailwater during the brown spawn for example can be exceptionally productive. Watching out for redds of course!
Funny you should ask. I've toyed around with the concept a lot, and I like fishing them that way a lot. I have plans to make that video one day, I just need to play around with it more. I did find that reversing the bead worked better for tying.
@@skylerhardman1227 definitely keep us posted on a video. It would be a good way to get down a bit quicker on smaller pools where you need it in the zone faster.
Hi there, I used to live just outside Idaho Falls. I've actually been in Twin Falls for a while now, but I still come out that way and fish the Henry's Fork from time to time.
@@OlufsWaterview Yeah, I had to take a break from RUclips for a bit to take care of some other stuff. I kept forgetting to check the comments during that time... oops haha.
Bak Draft if you could, it would probably look a lot cleaner! The main reason you finish it in the bend is because you need to slide the yarn to get the hollow sphere shape.
I'll have to try that out for sure! Usually I can get quite a few fish before things start to fall apart, but I'll give that a try and see how it does. Thanks Leo!
The UV resins that I have tried don't seem to adhere well to the hook and after a short time the egg falls apart. Super glue is the best thing I have found. That said, if you find UV resin that sticks well to the hook, use it!
I had never heard it called that before but upon researching it just now I must say that you are totally right! I learned this fly from a friend who called it the Antron Egg and I used online videos to perfect the tying of it but only ever found it as Antron Egg. I assumed that we were making variations of the Antron egg by using egg yarn. I hope you understand that it is impossible to be aware of every fly by every tyer, but I do research and I try to give credit when demonstrating someone else's pattern, but in this case I had no idea someone else tied this. Thanks for the information!
Skyler Hardman your welcome and can you tie a video of a perdigon the video will be on my RUclips channel in a day or so subscribe and notifications on so you can watch it
Yeah I can keep an eye out for your peridigon video. Just so I'm clear, did you also want me to make a video of a peridigon? Sorry I didn't completely understand.
Yeah, the Mcfly foam egg yarn doesn't have the right kind of fibers for this technique. I generally use any kind of glo bug yarn, I have found that Spirit River carries a great variety of colors of the yarn, but I've never found a brand of glo bug yarn that didn't work for this. Hope that helps!
It very well might be. I've used red before too so it looks like more of the blood dot and it worked perfectly fine. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

One of the best uses of a mass bundle of egg yarn. Fantastic pattern fella
Thanks a bunch!
Really like your egg pattern tight lines Jim 👍🏴
Thanks Jim!
That is a great looking egg and good explanation of tying steps , between this egg and sucker spawn I should be catching fish thanks for the pattern.
Thank you! Great winter pattern, you should catch loads of fish.
Simple and very easy to do. Thank you for sharing your good sets
Thanks!

@@skylerhardman1227 I've made a bunch of them, and they seem to hold together well in the water. Now, using one to snag a big fish still eludes me...

I can't wait to try this one. I'm waiting on my new scissors to arrive, the ones I have are junk :) Thanks for the great video!

Nice instruction.
Thanks!
Great looking egg. Ever use eggstasy yarn?
Thanks! I have tried tying with it. Haven't fished it as much as I would like though. Hopefully I can try it more in the future.

Great video and fly! do you add super glue to the body as well?
thanks a ton! I only add glue to the thread, but in the video I put water on the fly to show how it looks when it is wet, sorry for the confusion.
Earlier in this video you were dabbing the egg with your fingers. Was that just water? I thought it might be glue.
It was just water to show how it looks when wet.
Отлично получается приманка,хочу попробывать весной на Байкале, и впадающих в него реках,на хариуса.Спасибо .

Maybe some head cement and dry overnight, and then super glue them all the next day. I do this with the jigs I tie and never ever lose hair.

What size and brand hook are you using? Looks to be stainless
This was on a size 14 hook, and I believe it was a Dai Riki scud hook. I've used Umpqua U series hooks with good success as well.
Like this one. Cheers
Thanks David!
Did you put uv on the egg?😊
I believe he just wet it with water to show how it looks in the river.
I'm in eastern idaho too in idaho falls where are you
I just moved to northern Idaho for grad school but I was living in Rexburg and intend to return to eastern Idaho.
Nice pattern ! Would it be worth using some black thread to do the final tie off to make the egg look more round?
It very well might be. I've used red before too so it looks like more of the blood dot and it worked perfectly fine. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!
What is the liquit that u putted on the whole egg?
It was just water, I was trying to show what it looks like when the fly is wet
fantastic! GG

do you use red in the center of all different color eggs
You could definitely change it to match different local species but I always have used red with good results.
