I have a 580c backhoe. Never repacked a hydraulic cylinder before. I put up with leaky swing cylinders for much to long. The manual said to take the trunnion plate off. With a 3/4 rachet and a 6 foot pipe , I broke one loose. Could not figure out how to attack the rear bolts. Finally dawn broke over marblehead when I figured I could pull the pins on both cylinders, spin both and take apart. The machine acted as a vise. Previous owners had taken apart with chisel so holes were banged up. Glad I noticed that small screw keeping the gland from rotating. Have repacked half of cylinders on machine, well worth the effort! Just replaced water pump. I waited too long, the shaft had enough wobble so the fan struck the radiator. Since every thing was apart I pulled the hydraulic pump. ( manual says every 1000 hours to put moly grease on splined shaft.) Seems this had been ignored as the splines were worn and shaft was bent. New pump, got adapter as well. A note from the supplier said a number of failures were due to worn motor mounts. Order those, One bolt missing ! This 46 year old machine has helped with numerous projects on my 6 1/2 acres in southern maine. Helped out many neighbors and volunteer at the nearby trolley museum. Good luck, I think you will do well with this american built iron !
